Does working out intensively change your facial appearance for the better?

To start off I would like to look a lot more masculine in my face. I still do look it, but when I was younger I was always a fit and active guy and that showed in my appearance, I thought anyway. Then from about 13/14 years onwards I became a lot less active and got kinda skinny as a result. Anyway, I know if I stayed active I'd have a more masculine appearance from higher hormone levels and I'm pissed off I didn't keep it up.

I'd love a bigger, squarer jaw and brow ridge -the more masculine attributes, and I'm wondering is this achievable? I see many of the big guys on other fitness forums with very big and pronounced masculine features and I'm wondering was I too late on that boat and it's something you really only get if you're lifting throughout puberty or can it all be obtained now in my early 20s like in my case?

I'm willing to work my ass off for a bigger, better body and overall just to become a beast over the next few years from heavy dedication to the gym.

    All input is appreciated, lads

Generally what's recommended for a squarer jaw look is Face Squats. 5 sets of 20 with about 45 seconds rest between sets.

I'll get right on it so.

In seriousness I've read that dead lifting improves your jaw line and the higher T levels from heavy lifting goes to widen your jaw further, gradually. Whether that's true or not I don't know

Not so much, just to get a more cut look in my face, and to build up my body more, though I have a good solid build as is.

Hardly so shocking and unreasonable considering working out improves your appearance anyway and generally fills out your face

But, your jaw is bone, working out doesn't grow more bone.

The appearance of your face is determined by three things: Bone structure, fat %, and skin quality. You can't change the bones without surgery, losing fat won't help if that's not the issue, and I doubt working out has an effect on skin (though I suppose a hormonal connection wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility).

So no, you can't make your face more manly by working out. Try growing a beard! The good news is that if you work out and get muscles people will think you look awesome and often won't even realise why. After I started bulking up a bit I started getting compliments on completely unrelated things, as if people registered that something had improved but misinterpreted what.

So, uh...work out, and maybe someone will think you have a manlier face?

    I think it can.

When you make you traps bigger, they require more skin to cover the muscle, which comes from you're face hence smoothing any wrinkles out.

Chewing gum can make you're jaw muscles bigger giving that masculine look.

So, trap exercises and a pallet of Wrigleys Extra will do the job!

The face does change (slowly) after puberty.

It's plausible that weight training over many years could influence this process and produce subtle changes in facial appearance.

An extreme example of how hormonal changes can affect the face structure after puberty is the condition Acromegaly caused by excess growth hormone. Google Maurice Tillet, this chap apparently looked "normal" up until his late teens. BTW he's the lad on the left :D

Well that's just what I've read, don't shoot the messenger ffs. Working out increases your T levels and HGH, those are directly linked to making your jaw more pronounced for example. Look at roiders, they develop big brow ridges and jaws because of the massive amounts of hormone in their bodies. Granted I don't want to do steroids and those levels aren't in anyway achievable through working out alone, but the boost is bound to have a beneficial effect. So if I were to take boosters to add to that again, that would increase the levels slightly more.

Here, I'm just playing off some things I've read. I'm hardly looking for miracles, but I honestly think the increased levels would go to sharpen up your features even slightly.

Jay Cutlers jaw has gotten more 'masculine' over the years. It could be truckloads of HGH he's injecting himself with but more than likely I'd say it's deadlifts supersetted with squats. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acromegaly Any hormonal changes brought on by exercise have negligible effects on the visible body, including bone and muscle growth.

Dunno if your post belongs in Health & Fitness, you might have better luck in Fashion & Appearance. Best of luck on your endeavors.

I remember seeing a video where Jay states he has does not take any drugs what so ever, so i don't think it could be HGH or any other banned substance.
