I'm not on this Board an awfully long time so this has probably been done before. If so, MODS feel free to close/merge it!

I was watching the film "The 51st State" last night and it had a pretty good chase scene in it. The "villains" were in a lovely Jag XJ6 III and were being pursued by a Cop in a Vauxhall Omega.

That got me wondering, what's my favourite movie car chases?

The chases in "Ronin" were classic but my favourite would still have to be the closing scene in Mad Max 2 with the Mack Tanker being pursued by all manner of vehicles.

    So, what's yours?

    Gone in 60 seconds...the original.

The remake was also my favourite movie with Nicholas cage in it. Not many to choose from in that list anyway.

Both car chases were good but that 40 minute off car chase in the first one always has me on the edge of my seat.

This was how they shot the dialogue during the car chase at the start of JB Skyfall. Thats the old Stig on top doing the driving.

    Skyfall-Land-Rover-Defender-stunt-car-1.jpg

Pretty cool. Uprated power, widened stance to allow for the higher COG. Stiffened.

This chase scene is fairly underrated..

(i prefer the original, the edit/scratching on this one is poor :D)

"This place has got everything..." Love how they just casually just point out the shops with no worries about the cops chasing them!

Ronin has good car chases too.

I prefer the ones that have 'ordinary' cars.... Makes you feel like it could happen to anyone!

love all the movies including the new one.

The Bond one with the Aston Martin and the Alfa's was a good one too.

The second or third matrix. The one where they built a 6 mile motorway just to get what they wanted. Great chase crap film.

They didn't build it, they rented it from the Australian govt before it was opened to the public.

    Even Hollywood isn't that stupid.

Jack Reacher had an unexpected chase scene in it between a Camaro SS and Audi A6 3.2. Was quite good IMO, night time, very noisy, lots of tyre smoke.

    +1 original Italian Job.

And it's a God awful film, but there's a couple of good chases/races and cars in general in Tokyo Drift :D

There's a cracking film called Robbery from 1967 which is loosely based on the Great Train Robbery. The first 15 minutes have by far and away one of the best car chases I've ever seen. Interestingly this film was directed by Peter Yates who the following year went on to direct Bullitt.

    Everyone forgets this one!

Loved the car chase I'm the movie
"What’s Up Doc?" Comedy with Ryan O’Neal & Barbara Streisand.5 or 6 cars
    involved.
They even managed to flatten A VW van.

Thanks for those, lads. I'd not seen them.

Looking at those cars from the 60's, they just looked so heavy didn't they? Like they were made of cast iron or something!

    What about car programmes lads?

Top Gear is the obvious one but there's one running right now as I speak on Nat Geo called "Strippers: Cars for Cash". Very good show IMO.

There was one called "Banger Boys" that ran a couple of months ago. Not bad once you got in on it.

The Blues Brothers, about 200 cop cars chasing one car and all the cops crashing everywhere. My favourite for the comedy element.

Very good lads. What were the two cars in the Kurt Russell movie clip? One's a Challenger I think? And a Mustang???

    Here's a daycent truck chase:

Bullitt is without a doubt one of my all time favourite movies, but there's two bits in the car chase that bug me

    1. The charger crashes into the parked car pretty heavy at 2.50, but the car shows no damage
    2. They pass a green VW beetle at 3.30, viewed from inside the car, then the same scene is reshot from outside the car at 4.10, after they've already turned two streets away.

Maybe I'm just hard to please

Have to go with The French Connection too, story is part of the chase scene was shot on an open street, as they did not have sufficient people or space to close off enough streets and ended up running in actual traffic (including an unrehearsed collision with a guy heading to work.)

The story with Ronin is that the stunt driver raced through Paris in a right hand drive car, with De Niro holding the dummy wheel on the left, so his faces of terror at points in that chase was more than acting!

That's right. I heard that one too.

Good way to get the most realistic performances out of the actors!

^^ That Deathproof chase is epic. It breaks my heart seeing that Challenger getting beat up though. :(

Yea it's cool S, but in reality he wasn't going that fast(though it took balls), he was in a Merc(IIRC), not a Ferrari and the sound was dubbed later. Strap a camera that low to a car and it makes the world go by very fast indeed. If ya wanna check out truly great driving Youtube up Walter Rohrl peddling Group B rally cars back in the day. Not car chase scene I grant you, but bloody hell . Even Senna thought he was unreal.

The music in Bullit really builds the tension and is way cool with it, then the hammer goes down and it's all business and big fcuking V8's :D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

If we are talking car chase movies (as opposed scenes), then its got to be 70s:

    Dirty Mary Crazy Larry
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071424/
Worth making someone else watch it just to see their expression in those last 10seconds. :D

    and obviously:

    Vanishing Point
    http://www.imdb.com/list/j0clO0JtAk8/

I want to say Two Lane Blacktop too, but need to rewatch it.

Is the third one the one with Tina Turner?

The road warrior Mack truck chase at the end is the best of all time IMO.
