Bought it in Smyths on launch day in March 2007 and still going strong, apart from the fan sounding like an aircraft taking off!! Anyone else have an original?

I got my 60GB PS3 the week the first Slim was launched back in 2009. Still going thankfully, even if the fans do rev up to pretty audible levels every once and awhile.

Anyone with one of these should take preventative measures, & have the thermal paste replaced with decent stuff. Also consider having the fan mod done, to be able to increase the fan speed manually to higher levels. Sure there's additional noise, but the tradeoff of cooler innards is a worthwhile one.

I had considered that alright. Amusingly enough though, I bought that particular model for the backwards compatibility and the ability to use Linux for a project I was working on. Since then however, ~90% of the PS2 games I wanted to play have been re-released in HD for the PS3 and Linux support has been removed so if it does end up dying I won't really mind getting a new Slim model. :)

Got my phat 60gb too. Replaced hdd to 500gb. I won't bother doing anything to it as it is barely used in all these years. I only play some exclusive on it now and then.

Still love my old girl, never gave up on me. Can't say that About 20gb Xbox, which died from not being used and sitting in a box. ( I **** you not)

I still have one, unfortunately it has the YLOD.

I since purchased a slim so I am not sure if I will ever get it repaired.

I have an American first model which has the PS2 chips in it rather than the crappy software emulation the european model so even more desirable again. I scared to death of it ever breaking.

Still have mine, though I think its at deaths door, must back up my save data off it actually. Got it first Christmas and it broke two days later. Got a replacement which broke a week later. Third time lucky and the old girl is still chugging (literally) away.

Still have mine its sitting in front of me here as i type :pac:

It was my 21st birthday around the same week it launched in March wasn't gonna get it so early but had the money so decided to treat me self!

Resistance fall of man was first game i bought with it as far as i can remember. Think the whole package cost near enough 700 euro ffs.

Only issue i ever had with it was the laser failing after a few years other then that its still flying!.

Have the ps4 pre ordered so i guess ill be retiring me two ps3s fairly soon.....

Yep still have my 'ol 40gb chubby - she's still running as smooth as the day I got her. Great investment

I don't have a launch day model but until April my fat Ps3 was going stong and then predictably the YLOD appeared right as I was entering the final stages of Far Cry 3.

Because I'm waiting and saving for the next machine I'm not replacing it so I've been console-less for the past while.

Still have my launch US one. It's YLOD on me twice now but brought it back with the hairdryer trick. Going to get it repaired professionally once I have my PS4 paid off (please last till November).

I'll actually have a breakdown if that happens especially with GTA V so close.

Never compliment your PS3 as still working, ever. This thread is the equivalent of mass murder in the PS3 world :P

Still have my 60gb from launch week and still working well! Gets loud sometimes though

I found that the hoover tends to help with the fan noise. Clean out dem vents.

Still have my phat 60gb bought in May '07. It gets a bit loud from time to time, louder than my 360 but it's still going.

Still have one, and it was still working fine as of Last night. I seen on Adverts you can still get about €100 for these as i was thinking of selling me, but have since decided to Keep it.

Still have my launch night 60gig PS3 that I picked up in Smyths , loud as hell and mostly just use it for Netflix nowadays but still going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,561 ✭✭✭✭Varik

Have the 60GB which is now a 1TB and has failed once but it was then reballed and is kept in a cool place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭eddhorse

Yep have the 60GB launch model.
750GB hard drive in it now.
Got the YLOD one Christmas Eve so had to go but a slim to get me by.
Have since got it reballed and it's been working fine ever since, gets a bit loud but that's expected.
Best ~€800 I ever spent. I have the receipt somewhere....

Sure do. £500 for the console, resistance, sonic, casino royale, and some dreamworks animated thing I can't remember the name of.

Yep, 60GB, barely used apart from a few BluRays.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭shuffles03

40GB Phat still on the go. My brother got it free from Sony when he bought a TV......the bastard made me buy it from him though, albeit cheaper than retail.

Still going strong although it sounds like a Harrier Jet.

You can't beat the Spiderman typography.

Pre ordered mine couple months before it came out, spent €700 on it :O

Thought I was a great man all together still having a trouble free one up to a few months ago... Then it suddenly YLOD :'(

I still have mine, the power button is a bit iffy on it all the time. Is there a fix for that ? i.e it wont switch off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,128 ✭✭✭Staplor

    My one YLOD'd.

Hairdryer and fridge trick worked amazing to fix it til I upgraded to the new super slim model. I hate the super slim, have the old one upstairs as a Netflix box in the bedroom. Still working for that.

60GB Fat PS3 broke 2 years ago after ~4 runs of Battlefield 3. It was touch and go copying my saves to a USB drive as it worked for 2mins at a time before it died completely. :(

Sony agreed to pay half the price of a new 320GB Slim though so fair enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,396 ✭✭✭whomitconcerns

i still use mine with my "original" 40'' 1080p TV...that was an expensive month...638 for the ps3 and 1550 for the tv....i paid for that for a long while! :D

Is there a place online that shows that mod? I still have mine and is like to keep it ha ha

Yup, still have my 40GB launch model, she's an absolute beast. Although I never got around to upgrading the HDD, and I share the console with my brother, so there's a fair amount of deleting and reinstalling game data, which can get annoying

Still got my 60GB original. Working perfectly from day one :) (That's the kiss of death now...)

Yep, you add in a potentiometer to control the fan - http://psx-scene.com/forums/f177/ps3-fan-mod-tutorial-87837/

    Yeah it's a Megadrive, Mega-CD, & 32X all together. You can feel the 32bit power...well actually, no you can't :o

I had an original 60GB PS3 there up until a while ago, I sold it on & reinvested the money back into the collection. I later bought the white super slim there on the top right corner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

What a great collection :) It makes me wish I still had my Atari 800XL lol

I still have my 60gb fat with the limited backwards compat.
The hard drive has been upgraded.
It dreams of one day being a jet engine revving up to full fan power even while idling. :pac:
