Man Boobs

I'm a social drinker, not very heavy and I like my food but eat relatively healthy. I seem to be prone to man boobs and its driving me mad, I dont get as much exercise as I'd like to as i've had a lot on my plate lately.

Anyone know if any exercise specifically is good for toning up that area, or perhaps its something in my diet.

    cheers.

the "eat relatively healthy" is the bit that's causing your man boobs most likely

ask over on the nutrition and diet forum and outline what you'd eat on a normal day.

Moving this to health and fitness as I think you'll get better advice here OP

yeah but it's mainly to do with calories.

there was a guy on the nutrition forum a good while back who was asking for advice about his diet and iirc he was pretty convinced he ate well, couldn't understand his problems with weight loss. he posted a picture of a typical dinner one day.. something like 6-7 potatoes in a bowl beside his mountain of food on the other plate.

I used to do the same, 4-5 large spuds a night and wonder why the weight wasn't falling off me. spuds are just one example but it'd be strange if you didn't have something like that going on.. eating something that might be 'healthy' but eating so much of it that the calories are leading to weight gain

also you can't spot reduce fat so there's not really anything you can do to specifically reduce man boobs... maybe chest exercises with weights would make them look a bit better but overall weight loss is what you want to aim for.

The overeating is whats causing them. Start tracking what you eat (use a site/app like myfitnesspal) and you should soon see where the problem lies.

    thanks digby,
i cook for myself normally jamie oliver recipies, but i tend to eat twice as much as i should cause its simply there in front of me.

just as i thought, more exercise(fat burn) less food :)

i just wondered why all the fat accumulates on my chest, everywhere else(except a bit of a belly) i'm lean enough.

Post up exactly what you eat.

It can vary, normally breakfast cereal or a herbal life nutritious meal shake, 5 pieces of fruit a day, a salad or chicken sandwich for lunch. in the evening i tend to eat after 8 as i cook for myself, make chicken curry or homemade burgers. Since i live in hong konG I eat out sometimes usually asia food, rice or noodle dishes.

What sort of cereal? MOst breakfast cereals are full of sugar. Porridge is decent, bacon and eggs is better :)

That herbal life stuff doesnt look great tbh - 26g serving, 13grams is carbs of which 9 grams is sugar. Thats ~33% sugar :/
    Fruit - grand
    Chicken Salad - grand
Chicken sandwich - bread can cause a lot of issues, but i like bread myself :p
dinner - chicken curry with what? If you are having chicken curry with brown rice that would be better than chips, for example. What is the burger eaten with?

Have you a smartphone you can use to track your food for a couple of days?

5 servings of fruit in a day is a pretty large amount of sugar though, isn't it? the 5 a day is meant to be some fruit and more veg.. and even then iirc 5 was only settled on because it was the largest number they thought they'd get the average person to eat on a daily basis.

As you dish up, put the extra in a plastic dish and lob it in the freezer. Simple.

press ups and parallel bar dips.

all the nutrition talk is grand but go build some muscle.

Get to the point where you can do 10 parallel bar dips and is likely there will be no talk of moobs

This would be a good vid explaining where you need to start and where you can move on to

A combo of veg+fruit would be better alright. An apple is about 10% sugar, something like that. Some sugar is fine though, personally I'd rather get it from an apple than from frosties, even though they are grrrrrrrrrreat.

Frosties is refined sugar though, I'd imagine raw sugar is in fruit, but yeah perhaps I could do with eating more brocolli.

I make my own coleslaw with mayo, mustard onions, white cabbage and carrots, goes well with a lot of things. I tend to go through these health buzzes with nuts, brown rice, salads etc, but it all falls to sh1t when I've indulged in a few beers the night before.

Completely agree! At the end of the day if you exercise enough you can eat whatever you want (to an extent)!
In my opinion these exercises would work best if they were done along with some cardiovascular exercise.
It seems that you take in a fair amount of carbohydrates. (rice, noodles, potatoes etc.) Carbohydrates are fuel for working muscles, and if they are not used they are stored as fat in the body until such a time as they are needed.
There are plenty of cardiovascular exercises you can do such as cycling, rowing machine, swimming etc. that will use up these carbs, but in order to get the most out of the amount of time you put in, running is the way to go.

My advice: Do 30 mins running per day, followed by 50 push-ups (you don't have to do 50 in a row) and 3 sets of 12 reps on bench press.
Also try cut down on carbs and increase protein intake.

If you start at this from day one, you may injure. Build into it.

the guy offers plenty of options on getting started just be sure that you are doing some pulling movements also

easiest to get started on are a body row, one arm dumbbell row and then get going on your chin ups and pull ups. For every set you do of dips/press ups, do a pulling movement also.

just get strong to the point where you are really well able to do the basics with excellent form (this will take for most a year so be patient)

Get training properly and get your diet focused on high quality food.
