What will the world be like in 2023?

Lets play a game - based on broad current trends, and the rate of technological, social, political and technical advancement over the last 10 years, what do you reckon Ireland and the World will be like 10 years into the future.

Obviously it's impossible to be too specific here - nobody could have predicted the coming explosion of social media in 2003 for example, but there were people commenting the increasing tendencies towards user-driven content creation (mostly blogging back in those days if I can recall).

So given the broad swing of things at the moment, in what way do you reckon we'll be living this day 10 years from now?

    Ireland: Cold, wet and miserable.

I'll be a bitter old hag, possibly with 20 cats.

I'll be dead from enjoying myself too much and not giving a fcuk. Otherwise, it will be just the same.

It'd be nice if the current world problems such as famine, poverty, disease and fame hungry idiots were gotten rid of but it's hardly likely. It'll probably be pretty much the same but with more technological advances. Hover boards maybe...been waiting for that a long time now though.

We learned in engineering that 2023 is the year computers will have the same amount of transistors as there are neurons in the human brain, going by Moor's Law. So every 18 months computers will double ahead of our thinking capacity.

Autonomous robots are an inevitability, even if it takes 100 years, max.

The line between reality and virtual reality will become further blurred.

There'll be no such thing as lost.

You'll be able to click on things you see and access more info.

3d printers (which already exist) will become more affordable and commonplace household items. Just like computers have over the last decade. The cartridges will be filled with certain materials, and objects will be bought and downloaded online, and printed on the printer. A vase for example or even a pair of shoes.

Yeah, we will be a fat population, eating solyant green.

Seriously though, over population is actually a very real problem, we have gone well past the point of having a civilisation that is sustainable by the planet, we have already in this year gone past the resource replenishment quota for the year

Measles and Polio will be extinct.

We will have lots more wind turbines.

Solar will be cheap enough to use here.

Smartphones will have batteries that last up to three days.

No one will have gone to Mars.

Soyuz will still be most used Human rated spacecraft.

We might have Fusion power by then, so Solar panels and turbines may be redundant...

I'd probably get proper broadband 2 years from then.

2023... I guess I'd be most interested with the project of people being sent out to Mars by then.

Petrol prices would have sky rocketed - €5/liter

Based on current trends and how the general populous seem to be acting these days in regards to mindless followings of popular culture and "text speak" still being popular long after the invention of smart phones I reckon this is the world about 5 or 6 generations from now:

I don't think there's too many kids of Spanish descent around so there's nobody to learn from :(

I'd imagine there'll start being a bad reaction to immigration from certain areas not because immigration is bad in itself but because everything goes in cycles and a certain population coming in to specific areas normally creates tensions. The massive overpopulation in areas like India would have to be dealt with in their own areas not allowed to overspill in to an area, such as the EU where our population is relatively static and we can be self sufficient food wise. They almost outnumber the Chinese population and whereas the Chinese pop. is now stable the Indian population shows no sign of slowing its growth. They're not being pro-active about it and they're social structure allows for very little change so it'll be more a case of the rest of the world reacting to them.

The U.S is in danger of going down a slippery slope where everyone lives in gated communities or slums outside of them in the main population areas.

There'll have been another worldwide boom and another crash in the making - not completely unintentional either.

China will become more moderate and have increase its living standards and may start to produce a middle class that demands more rights - which will mostly be be ignored but not cracked down on as viciously as has happened before.

South America is anyones guess - Brazil might be the first state of a more independent region that can exert its own influence not only on itself but on outside states.
