    You can't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

You can't after 48 hours of posting them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭Late Student

Is that right..every forum you can at least edit and delete you old post content

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 26,403 Mod ✭✭✭✭Peregrine

    Thank you

Ask a mod of the specific forum to delete them but please, only do it if it's necessary. Don't just keep PM them asking to delete 40 posts because you don't like them.

You can only edit/delete them yourself for 2 days after posting.

What if you want to remove your whole account and all its posts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,758 ✭✭✭✭TeddyTedson

What's comment do you want to delete?

Is that right..every forum you can at least edit and delete you old post content

I believe (and am open to correction) Boards took the decision because of the vast quantity of posts on the site the ability for everyone to able to edit all their old posts would kill several hamsters.

Your only option is to PM a mod of the forum in which the post you want to delete is in and ask them to do it. But generally it's not done unless there's some extenuating circumstances (i.e personal information) as Boards policy is that you stand by what you post.

What if you want to remove your whole account and all its posts

You can close your account via the User CP, but that will not delete your posts. An Admin could nuke your account, but there'd have to be a very good reason to do so as opposed to you just regretting what you posted.

What if you want to remove your whole account and all its posts

You can close your account using your control panel, but you cannot delete all of your posts.

What if you want to remove your whole account and all its posts

If you close your account, your posts will still remain.

You could PM an admin and ask them if they could do anything about your posts if you really NEED them deleted because re-regs, spammers etc. do have their posts erased when they get banned so they could do something similar.

Once again, only do it if you NEED them gone for your privacy or safety. Most are volunteers, they don't want to sit at home all day deleting posts for everyone at request because their viewpoint changed or something trivial like that,

Its thing like that that makes me look forward to the new draconian internet world will will live in. If boards stop you doing it then the law should give us the right to remove everything from public view.

Are there not genetically modified hamsters at this stage that could handle it.

If not, I'm off to write a strongly worded letter to Michael Healy-Rae and then immediately shred it. Bah.

You could try the A Team op,if you can find their number.

Im pretty sure reading isn't one of Michael's strong points, might I suggest a crayon drawing with match stick men instead.

In 2002, a crack commando unit was sitebanned by boards for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from the maximum-security Prison forum to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the admins, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem...if no one else can help...and if you can PM them...maybe you can hire...The A Team.

One does not simply post a thread like this without inviting post history stalkers.

    Or without creating suspicion.

    :D

Although mods are unlikely to without very good reason, even if you provide the links to them to save them searching.

From the Boards Terms of Use that you agreed to when you joined:
Please do not post any information you are not happy to leave up indefinitely. In order to ensure that threads and conversations are not disrupted, we do not generally remove Material which is uploaded to us. Consequently, you agree that your Material displayed on boards.ie may continue to appear on boards.ie, even after you have terminated your user privileges or have had your user privileges terminated by boards.ie.

However if there are a handful of posts that you wish to have deleted (posts that contain personal identifying information, for example), you can PM the appropriate forum mods and request that they delete them. However please note that they are not obliged to do so.

Its thing like that that makes me look forward to the new draconian internet world will will live in. If boards stop you doing it then the law should give us the right to remove everything from public view.

its a technical reason,it breaks the Databases if you start deleting posts willy nilly.

Its your look out if you post stuff you later regret.

And if you think boards.ie is bad.have you read facebooks T&C? or looked at the permissions its app needs for your smart phone?

You can do a ninja edit of a post for the first 2 minutes from posting.

You can edit a post yourself up to 48 hours.

The difference is, is that after the first 2 minutes the post is marked as edited at the bottom of the post.

Usually if you want a post removed it would need to contain personal information, e.g. A phone number, email address, links to facebook profile etc.
