    Folks,

I am thinking of having some bloods done.
I am just interested in checking cholesterol etc unless someone can tell me anything else I need to look out for.

Anyway - is there one place better than another for this ?

I.e. will a chemist do it or do I need to go see the GP

    Thanks
    Rob

If it's just cholesterol, you can get it tested in some pharmacies.

Not as accurate as getting bloods taken by a GP and sent to a lab, mind.

For cholesterol you need to fast from evening before. If you want full works then GP is the way to go.

This may sound obvious, but you should tell your GP when making your appointment that you want blood tests.

Blood tests are tested for free for GPs in Irish hospitals, but the sample needs to be taken to the hospital.
Blood needs to be tested within 24 hours of the sample being taken and for some tests, within 12 hours.

You should check if your GP provides a delivery service for non-emergency test samples and if so on what days of the week.

No point in fasting, and taking time off work and being told to come back on Wednesday.
