Chelsea v. Aston Villa 20:00

    190px-Chelsea_FC.svg.png v. Aston-Villa-crest.jpg

    Chelsea team:

Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Lampard, Oscar, Mata, Hazard, Ba.

Subs: Schwarzer, Mikel, Schurrle, De Bruyne, Van Ginkel, Lukaku, Azpilicueta

    Aston Villa team:

Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Luna, El Ahmadi, Westwood, Delph, Weimann, Benteke, Agbonlahor.

Subs: Steer, Bennett, Okore, Bacuna, Helenius, Sylla, Tonev.

Both teams coming off the back of winning opening weekends, but Villa capturing a huge scalp at the start (and away from home) will mean they will have much less fear coming into this game than they probably should.

Chelsea showed how well they can inflict damage on teams in the first half of the game against Hull. But it was quite unnerving to see how quickly the foot was taken off the accelerator in the second half. You'll get away with that against Hull. Not against teams that are better and teams that have the likes of Benteke lurking around.

Last season, Chelsea inflicted a record-equalling 8-0 thrashing in the Bridge and then scraped past 1-2 in Villa Park towards the end of the season.

Villa will have their tails up and will not care who they are playing. Chelsea must not get complacent or they could suffer the same fate as Arsenal.

I reckon this will finish 3-1 to Chelsea (Hazard, Mata, Lamps; Benteke for the visitors).

I wouldn't be surprised if Mourinho went with Lukaku against United, great squad depth at Chelsea

Terry and Cahill the CB pairing? Hardly a combination to deal with the speed of the opposition attack.

Had to get a stream of it online... and yes, 19:45 was the kickoff. Apologies. Game is 2 minutes old at the moment.

Terry and Cahill will want to be on their toes to deal with the speed of the Villa attack.

Chelsea look very comfortable on the ball.

Villa finding it tough to keep it/get the ball

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

The important thing was the floodgates didn't open after the goal cos Chelsea were looking very dangerous. Travelling support finding their voices now just hope bent eke and co can give em something to cheer about.

Conceding again would be a nightmare tho as the team is set up to counter attack atm

Btw in ff does nobody get an assist for an OG thought hazard would have

Clark off injured. Okore on for Villa.

Good for Chelsea. An inexperienced new signing being brought on. Hopefully can capitalise now.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Baker replaced by Clark vs Arsenal now Okore will get his competitive debut replacing Clark.

Is it just me or does anyone else think he looks like he should be asking "what you talking about willis?"

    BENTEKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,493 ✭✭✭DazMarz

Shíte defending. Complacent, sat back, did nothing. Great goal from Benteke. Chelsea's defenders need to ask serious questions of themselves now. The first decent chance Villa have had, and they breach the defence. Terrible from Chelsea's players. Hopefully Mourinho eats the fukken heads off the lot of them.

So calm. God love him. That's a 15/4 bet in. Have him at 25/1 to score 2 or more as well.

    Benteke- ball- net- Beast!

will be a little more detailed if I see a replay

Agbonlahor beat Ivanovic down the left and pulled the ball back for Benteke.

Nice finish in off Cech's right post.

Talking of strikers, what a goal this is, from one of the best in the Premier League.

Aston Villa get their reward for their steady improvement as the half went on, as Gabriel Agbonlahor raids down the left leaving Branislav Ivanovic in his wake and pulls the ball back for Christian Benteke, who takes a touch before squeezing the the ball between Petr Cech and his right-hand post, the ball clipping the upright on its way in. John Terry will not enjoy watching the replay, because he left Benteke far too much room.

Really good goal, control and shot away fast and with decent power.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,234 ✭✭✭Patser

JPA that's cheating. Just read that off BBC live text. Looking for more emotional Villa tinted response.

Gabby supplying Benteke well so far, is Weimann off the pace again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,996 ✭✭✭Duck Soup

Ba's been awful. Lukaku should have started and he should be on the pitch at the start of the second half.

what he said. Mourinho will tear them a new one at half time though so Villa will need to be focussed as they start the 2nd half and hopefully not have a repeat of the first few mins of the 1st

edit - ahh that was from BBC:

Gabby with a great turn and burst of pace takes it down the right and past Ivanovic befoe pulling it back into Benteke in the box. He is free but has Terry blocking most of the goal not far infront of him and coming towards him. He has enough time to take 1 touch then boom low and hard (musta been pretty fast too) hits the post and in.

Not impressed with Chelsea at all these last two games, I think they may be some what overrated this season as favourites.

Not an enjoyable game this at all, too scrappy.

not long till the other big Belgian forward makes his appearance I would guess
