Protein supplements *Not for body building!*

    Hey guys,

    I've just gotten my results back from a food intolerance test and (devastatingly!) I'm intolerant to dairy and eggs.

    I have to eliminate them from my diet completely for three months (and possibly for ever after).

    I get a lot of my daily protein from them both and I would say basically all of calcium intake was previously dairy based.

    So along with different foods I'll incorporate I wish to take on supplements and would like some advice on which ones to choose.

    Online is cheapest but I don't want specialised body building whey protein. Or does that even matter? Also, any recommendations for calcium supplements?

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Dairy in general isn't really that high in protein so the only thing you are missing out on is eggs. Just eat meat, fish, nuts.
    Post your typical daily diet and you'll get some help here with it.
    And whey protein is dairy, Its a bi product of cheese production.

    Ah okay, I'm rather new to properly considering my diet and which things are a composite of others.

    My daily diet varies greatly (or had done until now most likely).

    I am mildly intolerant to some nuts and sunflower seeds aswell. Other seeds are fine.

    To give a full set of my intolerance's:

    Severely:
    Egg
    Cows milk (and associated products)
    Sheeps milk (and associated products)
    Barley
    Oat
    Cashew
    Peanut
    Sunflower seeds

    Moderately:
    Almond
    Hazelnut
    Goats milk
    Soya bean

    The biggest irritations in there for me aren't the obvious intolerance's like milk and eggs but the alternatives also like soya bean.

    I've also been told to avoid beef for the three months as it's the fats in dairy that are causing the problem and those are also present in beef. I am an extremely active person and so need to get around 100gms of protein p/day. Hence the consideration for protein supplements.

    No, it doesnt matter really as its just protein. Do you have any particular concerns about it?
    Bacon, chicken, , fish etc etc are all very good sources of protein. If you want to supplement here are a few nondairy/soy based ones - http://ie.myprotein.com/our-range/protein/vegan-protein.list

    milk is only 3g/100ml and eggs are only around 7g per egg.
    So unless you were eating 10 eggs and 3 litres of milk a day I say you were getting most of your protein elsewhere.
    meat and fish are the main sources with rough 20-30% protein.

    you probably do get most of your calcium from dairy tho. So eat more greens, kale, watercress, rocket, bok choi, broccoli etc
    fish also contains calcium sardines, salmon etc.

    Also figs, apparently they have a lot of calcium too.

    That site seems perfectly suited to my needs. A proper focus and breakdown of the nutritional aspects of the product rather than a sole focus on how it affects muscle growth.

    I did used to to eat between 4 and 8 eggs per day but I reckon with a bit of planning and clever shopping (I'm on an extremely restricted budget) I can mostly source my protein needs naturally. When it comes to the dairy, can anyone suggest a sustainable and economical daily diet or should I continue down the road of supplements?

    I would take those results with a pinch of salt.

    I couldn't agree more. I'm really not overly bothered by the moderate ones in the long run. But eggs and dairy were off the charts so I'd like to try a different diet for a few months to see if my symptoms are alleviated, it also makes sense to slowly and regimentally reintroduce things back in to my diet so I can see myself what is causing the problem (I suffer from severe, chronic acid reflux and abdominal pain).

    chicken/tuna/turkey or ham and green veg/colourful veg.

    divide into meal sized portions and enjoy, repeat 2-8 times daily.

    please tell me you have eliminated wheat if you are experiencing severe abdominal pain?

    Id agree to cut out the dairy but the rest i would be sceptical towards.

    Simple things to do would be

    1. Cut out the wheat and dairy right away

    4. Make sure you have methods developed to manage stress as it has a massive effect on your digestion e.g. meditation, regular exercise, breathing exercises etc

    Food elimination without digestive support is like constantly putting air back into a slow puncture on a tyre i.e. it doesnt treat whats fundamentally broken.
