Going from Level 6 to Level 7

    Hey all,
    So I'm doing a Level 6 course this coming year and was wondering what's the story when you're applying to a level 7 course with a level 6? Do you just apply through the CAO and they only take into account your Level 5 or what?

    It depends on whether you are moving to the same subject area. Using Level 6 to move to Level 7 is very tricky and is usually determined by individual agreements between the FE college and the Institute of Technology involved. Sometimes they have arrangements in place that allow you skip a year or get an exemption from some subjects in Year 1 or Year 2 of the Level 7 course.

    Your best bet is to talk to the Career Guidance in your FE college and the Admissions Office in the college you wish to transfer to.

    Ok thanks! It's in the same subject area. My FE college is very small and they don't have a clue about any of that stuff so I'll get onto the college.

    Generally it is the larger FE colleges than have agreements with the IoTs for progression from Level 6. The IoTs also require certain modules etc. PM me details and I will see if I can help.
