I dont get the dont answer txt thing. I am often looking at something and say the size isnt given, I would just drop and txt and ask what size is the item etc. No point phoning if it doesnt suit you

Ya, I would have no problem replying to a text IF I got one:-(

Some of the older generation wouldn't be as handy with the texting, well at least that is the case here!!!

That's grand but then you have someone having a conversation with you in text without a notion of buying what you are selling

That happens but most of the time it is just the one text looking for prices

Why wouldnt you put up a price?

Main reason being I thought it might scare some people off but I seem to have done that anyway. Genuinely quite surprised that I didn't get any contact at all about them

Best place to advertise is bring them to the mart, cattle have gone up 50...to ... 100€ over the last two weeks

Try the other way round as being a seller. You might realise most texters are too shy to ring and they are also too shy to buy. Have balls and ring the man

No point in bringing purebreds to the mart as there would be noone there to buy them, well there would but it would be for less than I was hoping for

That doesn't make me feel any better tbh. Maybe people view them as poor stock but the ad has had nearly 400 views in 6 days. Might chance putting them up again and try next week's journal as well

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,786 ✭✭✭✭whelan1

do they export limousins? we exported some aa heifers last year, sold some earlier in the year this year , we didnt advertise a lad just arrived and bought them:eek: spread the word around , is there a limousin website? just bump the ad again and see what happens...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭Mac Taylor

MM, Had PB bulls up on Donedeal earlier this year with no prices. Got alot of calls most of which were wasting every ones time. Put them up again with prices, got way less calls however I had them sold in about 4 days.
Why not put up a price range? Priced from 2,500 - 3,000. That then gives you some wriggle room aswell.

Ya they have started exporting them as far as I know. Will bump up the ad and put them on the limousin website and see how it goes. Strange thing is that I put them up on Facebook and got 4 or 5 enquiries but they were all from up north

Thanks, spot on with the prices as well btw:-)

Thing is I got no calls with no prices up so I can't really get any less

Munster magic. I saw your adds last week. That's the ERE heifer you had pictures up here of, some time back. When i saw the add, I thought because you had no price up, that you were looking for too high a price.
Put up a price range and see how it goes.
Nobody is willing to travel long distances without knowing what you are looking for them. They are fine looking animals and you will sell them 'at the right price'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,343 ✭✭✭bob charles

I have never bought an animal of donedeal, as there are just too many time wasters, do many others use the service

It's actually a different Ere heifer to the one I had up here. Tbh I am planning on bringing the heifers to the premier sale in roscrea in November but I said I would throw them up when I was putting up the cow.

I would consider the prices fairly reasonable and I will bump up the ad tomorrow with prices and I might be putting up the Ere heifer I had up here as well but I have someone coming to look at her in the morning

No room there you are starting at 2500

IFJ only place. No price or Sunday callers. If a person wants cattle they will need to see. If they want a price the deal should be done on the phone, but wait it can't because they want to see them.

My add always includes price on inspection as the person may want 2 or 30 animals. Big difference in those prices

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭st1979

I have bought lots of stuff on donedeal and ebay etc and sold stuff including calves on donedeal. And i will never ring about anything that has no price. I have tried to sell without putting up a price and you get no calls. So price is a must. Cause as a buyer its hard to know are you wanting what i consider a reasonable price or not. I don't want to ring and hear that you want twice what i think its worth. Cause i dont want to A: feel like i am an eejit thinking i could get such a thing for what i taught it was worth or B: make you think your an eejit thinking its worth twice what it really is.

Think I will put them back up on done deal tomorrow with prices and on the limousin website and if I don't get any calls I will put them up on next week's journal

I'd have a different view right or wrong. Id think if they were texting they've no money for price of a phone call let alone what lm selling. They've plenty of time though. ..time to be wasting my time!

if you are going to travel you need to know what the person has and what price he has in their head. Guy rang me recently having cattle for sale, got number from a mart. I called the next day and was under serve time pressure. Looked at the animals and valued them at 1100 - 1150 in my head. Asks what he wanted for them and told me he was bid 1350 already. I said to him in a polite way - what the hell have you me here for so?? Talk about wasting my time

Am I better off putting up separate adds or will I put the cow and 2/3 heifers on the one add? Should I put up as much info as possible or just the basics?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,786 ✭✭✭✭whelan1

the moreinfo you put the better imo, saves stupid phone calls

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,552 ✭✭✭pakalasa

I'd put up a picture of the mother of the second heifer.

Munster, does your local mart advertise in the ifj or localish paper. If we're offloading some pb stock and have no takers locally among pb breeders we'd ring the mart and they'll advertise them in their ad for that weeks sale under our name and what they are. i.e
Friday Weekly sale of dairy cows/dropped calves/suckler cows with special entry for ******** to include 2 4yo pb lims with bull calves at foot out of Tonka.
it wouldn't be unusual for this to be done here by any of the breeders of cattle or sheep

    just a thought

travelled over a hundred miles yesterday to look at stock that were on done deal, looked the business on the photo's but not when I got there, I came home empty
The photo's can be very deceiving on done deal when taken by a good cameraman, anyway lesson learned!

Don't worry, I'm a shocking bad cameraman but the stock are good;)

    Never failed to sell yet.

Callers from DD are 90% time wasters who haven't found boards or a mistress to occupy their evenings.

plan to donedeal is a few clear pictures
    a full description etc.

Some ads you wonder how the seller managed to place the advert.

Are you confident for the all Ireland?

Thanks. Had one text about the cow but price was a bit high for him or so he said anyway

Wouldn't say I am confident but definitely think we are capable of winning it. Might look a bit strange but I might have to put swap for all Ireland tickets at the bottom of my add:-)

That is new in the past few days, a welcome feature.

For the OP, are there no special pedigree sales in your local mart for this type of stock?

I think it is but there are four versions for the different province's. Have a look in the local shop , its worth perusing once anyhow .

One week later and it seems putting prices on the ad didn't make much of a difference. Had one text about the cow and that was it, maybe the prices are a bit high but we said we would leave ourselves with a bit of room for negotiation

Not sure what to try next, have them on the journal tomorrow and if that doesn't work then we will give them one last go on done deal at the lowest we will take
