    Definitely get Steam installed, great sales, marketplace, in-game chat and lots of other benefits;
    http://store.steampowered.com/

    Also I like to keep an eye on the Reddit Video Game Deals page;

    On the non-Humble side of indie-things there's:

    http://www.indieroyale.com/

    http://www.indiegala.com/

    http://www.bundlestars.com/

All 3 of which have regular enough bundles.

There's also frequent sales and deals for more AAA stuff here:

    http://www.gamersgate.com/

    http://www.greenmangaming.com/

    http://www.simplycdkeys.com/steam

    http://www.gamefly.co.uk/download-games/browse/?cat=Under10&pf=1100&page=3

Amazon.co.uk's new PC-download storefront is looking to be halfway fun, and if it evolves to become anything like its US brother, then it's definitely worth keeping tabs on.

Also, make sure to install 'Enhanced Steam', it'll produce little widgets on the Steam storefront that will automatically compare the price of any given game with a number of outlets. There's also a few other trinkets that add to the overall Steam experience.

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/enhanced-steam/okadibdjfemgnhjiembecghcbfknbfhg?hl=en

And, finally, there's Kotaku's 'Moneysaver' feature too. It covers a broad range of things, from consoles to add-ons, but will have updates of PC deals quite regularly.

have a look at this post I made which will give you links to cheap games

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=84065749&postcount=15

Steam is the main digital way of getting games on PC mainly because of their sales, new games are usually dearer than other places but they have 2 big sales a year in July and at xmas and a weekly deals for the rest of the year.
other sites like nuuvem, greenmangaming and gamersgate sell keys much cheaper than Steam themselves so keep an eye out by looking at the reddit page or savygamer.

Nuuvem is another site that's really cheap at lot of the time.

The catch - it's a Brazilian site and it's in Portuguese and you might need a fake Brazilian address.

    Steam is ESSENTIAL.

Steam is essential, truely. Origin probably as well depending on what you want to play.

I use www.ziip.co.uk as well, some great deals on from time to time. You still need Steam to get thet games tho as they sell Steam codes etc.

    This.

Anyone PC gamer worth his weight in games must have Steam. Its like oxygen. And a lot better than the poxy origin store. Although gamefly is alright.

Between GoG and Steam (especially during their legendary sales), there really isn't much you'll ever want. You could try Origin if you're really desperate...

Buy the game, and read the blurb it should say it's a steam key

Load up steam and there's an option to "redeem" key, enter in the key you have et voila, it will start downloading the game and setting it up, steam is great because it keeps everything updated

If it's your first time doing this - then go to humblebundle.com pay a dollar get all those games and start entering in the keys and you'll get the hang of it quick enough

I can't be the only person here wondering why a guy that doesn't even know what steam is would build a gaming PC?

Remy, if you're new to PC gaming, and you certainly seem that way, then start with the classics before wasting money on guff like BF3.

Go to GoG and get the original Fallouts, Baldur's Gate, Arcanum, Wizardry, Ultima, etc. These won't give your gaming PC much of a workout but they're true all time greats.

For a modern classic, try Mount and Blade: Warband. It's cheap enough on steam now so you can get it there once you figure that out or just buy it direct from the developers.

    jaysus

He's built one and wants games. Having only used console before, I presume he hasn"'t heard of Steam.

I recommend Crysis 2 from the humble bundle.. good easy fun, will give plenty of practice with the mouse and keyboard

lol, you have it the wrong way around... why would he build a new PC to play games from the 90's.. haha.

Just because their old doesn't mean they're bad.. Games are more than just graphics..

Op sure you can waste time on console crap like BF3 (Don't get me wrong I'm sunk 100s of hrs into it) & Crysis 2 but since you have a PC you might as well play some exclusives/classics..

Not sure on what genres you like but the original Crysis would blow your mind (compared to the ****e they call sequels).. Also check out Fallout 3, Dragon Age Origins, The Witcher 1&2, Amnesia and KoTOR just to name a few..

I never said they were bad... but why would someone buy a new PC to play games he could probably play on his laptop or whatever he was using before. BF3 on PC isn't really the same "Crap" you get on console anyway ?

I'd recommend playing games like BF3, Planetside, League of legends, Diablo 3, Starcraft, Guildwars, Skyrim, Borderlands, Left4dead, Portal 2, Darksouls etc.. be amazed at what your money has actually bought... then when you fancy something different, try the older "Classics".

Other than the 64 players and better textures it is.. When I said same crap I was talking ports... I'd love to see a laptop run the witcher 2 @ 60fps .. Unless it was a overpriced AW that would be obsolete in a few years..

Anyway Op enjoy your new investment.. You won't regret it when it comes to steam sales..

Edit: if you previously played Xbox 360 you could use the controller in most if not all games now.. Steam even has a controller mode.

First thing I did when I built my new gaming PC last year? Make sure I could still run classics like Thief and Fallout 2, because there's no freaking way I'll ever leave them behind in my list of favourites.

Still, you can get most of the classics on GoG or Steam now anyway, and for peanuts. They're called classics for a reason.

yeah did something similar with my machine.

Made sure I could still play Empire Earth, Silent Hunters, The Curse of Monkey Island.

Playing battlefield on PC is a completely different experience tho.. going from playing 32 man smaller version maps, running at < 30 fps, 720p and low textures to 64 man servers, high texture quality 1080p+, high framerates and better controls is a huge difference.

BF3 is a console port ? And who said anything about the witcher ?

I only pointed out that telling someone new to PC gaming to not play the latest games that will show off and impress them and instead playing games 2 generations old is silly. Anyway, whatever.
