These guys called up a KFC and told the women working there that 'hazard chemicals' were in their restaurant and tricked them into stripping naked and peeing on each other to 'neutralise' the threat.

What other scams and tricks are there that shouldnt have worked but did?

Telling Irish people that property prices can only go up. And that if they fall we are in for a soft landing.

This one didnt get that much tabloid inches at the time but it's hard to believe there are people that stupid and gullible.

American woman bringing the last 90000 installment of a million was intercepted by FBI and gardai handing it over to a conman in Burlington hotel.
It was the old Nigerian black money scam and the victims didnt have clue until the FBI intervened. The gullible 30 person American syndicate lost 900,000.

In February 2009, "Dex" called a KFC restaurant in Manchester, New Hampshire. Posing as a manager from the corporate office, he persuaded employees to douse the building with fire suppression chemicals and to then proceed outside, remove all of their clothing and urinate on each other (he claimed the chemicals were caustic and this would render them inert).[10] When "Dex" posted the audio to YouTube he described it as "Epic KFC Prank Call (greatest ever)...dex successfully convinces the 3 female employees to undress fully nude outside and urinate on each other." Many months later "Dex", posing this time as an insurance adjuster called the same KFC and had the victims describe their experiences while Pranknet members listened.

    The blessed one lives.

There was a mad pyramid scheme in cork a few years ago.
Im not messing when I say a lot of people I worked with were stupid enough to pay into it.

I was working on sites at the time and there was people organising meetings in their homes giving people info on how to get into it. There was a lot of bad blood around when the whole thing fell through.

But it was just ridiculous the amount of people that got stung for €1000+ minimum

    Wikipedia wrote:
Pranknet members frequently place Craigslist ads offering free tickets or items. Inquirers are bombarded with obscene sexual rants and racial epithets. A 12-year old girl called about a free trampoline, and Malik told her not to get pregnant by a black man because "they have AIDS". Markle frequently calls women who are selling household items on the site. After getting the victim’s home address, he then tells her he is on his way over to rape her and kill her children.
    ................
James Markle, one of the group's most prolific callers. Markle was already a person of interest in a Lufkin Police investigation involving a phone call to a local McDonald's,[21] and was arrested for this subsequently.[22] The Smoking Gun had based the claim upon information from old MySpace and Facebook pages, and people from the area who identified Markle in photos.[23] The Smoking Gun also published official documents showing that Markle pled guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2005, serving two years in a juvenile detention facility for raping a 5-year-old girl and then threatening to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

    Just some harmless fun .

Im definitely not condoning those fcukers actions, moreso using the KFC prank as a thread starter that will lead to less nasty examples and stories.

They went well beyond simply pranks though and a lot of what they did was just out and out terrorizing and humiliating people. Plenty of people are gonna see that and think "Wow those guys are awesome they managed to pull that one off" oblivious to the fact they managed to do it because they were a bunch of sociopaths, criminals and paedophiles used to bullying, terrorizing and manipulating unsuspecting people into doing what they want.

I personally wouldnt use what they did to do anything other than point out the fact they are scumbags of the highest order.

The famous con man Frank Abagnale pulled this off and you have to give him full brass balls marks.

He'd sit next to one of the deposit slits in the outside of a bank, after the nightclubs were closing on the busiest night of the week wearing a security guard's uniform and holding a bucket. He told every nightclub owner/manager that was depositing the nights takings that the slit was out of action and to just put the money into the bucket with a note with the club's bank account details so they could sort it out on Monday morning.

He then walked off with a lot of cash.

His life story would turned into a great film

Wasn't there a story recently about someone who started charging people to use a nearby, free carpark? The local businesses thought the council put it in place, the council thought a local business did, and so no one said anything.

The power of a Yellow Bib.

The Bristol Zoo Story? Nah. That scam story was itself a hoax. Would've been a classic though...

Movie called compliance based on a true story.

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compliance_(film)

guy calls a fast food place in the states and claims to be a cop. Says a member of staff has stolen a customers purse/money and tells manageress to bring her to the office. Proceeds to tell her to make the girl strip. Won't say any more as don't wanna spoil film but a good watch to see how these people operate on the premise that people will follow orders if they think it's from an authority figure.

There were rumours of charity money goiing astray. I dont know if there ever was any real foundation for the rumours but they pretty much destroyed his public persona and he diappeared from TV. It may have been the inspiration for the Father Ted "resting in my account"
His catch phrases "Give a little, it'll help a lot"
    "Stop the lights"

You regularly see on ebay items at quite reasonable prices... With P+P of €100's, I suppose someone must fall for it or they wouldn't bother...

Wonder would you get a paypal clawback based on that being a scam ??
