Was told recently by a nurse that because I eat a lot of eggs, my cholesterol will be sky high. I said that myth was busted years ago but she said I was wrong. Who is right??? When I say I eat alot of eggs I only eat maybe 3-5 a day

There was some programme on last week where they had the presenter eat 4 eggs a day for two weeks and see what impact it had on her LDL and it was minimal.

I would eat 3-4 eggs a day, got my cholesterol checked recently and the doctor said it was excellent.

    Well, how is your cholesterol?

I go to doctor for a follow up meeting on my blood tests taken two weeks previously and my cholesterol levels and body fat levels have dropped significantly since the last visit. She asks what are you doing that’s different. (Cholesterol 5.6 to 3.8)

Me: trying to follow a paleo \ primal style nutrition plan?
    Doc: what’s that?
Me: loads of eggs, red meat, chicken, fish, coconut fat, real butter, olive oil, nuts, above the ground growing veg and some fruit. No wheat or grains in general. Oat bran when my body tells me I need it.
Doc (after picked herself up off the floor): even whole wheat?
    Me: Yeah
Doc: Can’t be right lest do the blood test again.
Me: call them a week later and total cholesterol is 3.7

    Most GP’s have no clue.

Sorry back to your questions choline in the yoke will counter act the cholesterol in the eggs. Anyway cholesterol is OK unless you have high levels of inflammation in your arteries due to lifestyle choices.

About the "Above the ground growing veg"? Are root veg bad? Turnip, carrot, beetroot, the humble spud?

They're not bad. They just have more starch, i.e. carbs, than non-root veg.

Exactly, depends on your goals if its weight loss I would exclude them is its athletic performance I would include around training times.

By the way, the carbs in the root veg are complex carbs so they're not converted to 'sugar' as quickly, i.e. they provide energy for longer and give your body more of a chance to use them as fuel and not convert to 'sugar' so as siochain said if you're looking at a diet for athletic performance, have them on days you're training.

I don't subscribe to the "eggs raise cholesterol" theory myself. I wouldn't be stressing anyway without getting results first.
