Hi my name is Ellen and I'm starting in Nuig this year. Looking for room to rent preferably in a house with other first years as I don't really know anyone starting. If anybody is out there looking for someone to fill a room in a house near the college please contact me.

My girlfriend is in her final year down there, just sorted a house yesterday. Lots of houses left, if you know anyone at all going from your area get on to them, or if you know anyone down there already.
Lots of houses left but you don't want to be left too far out.
Contact the student union, they may have an accommodation list, or a list of people in the same boat as yourself.
Also join the NUIG facebook pages!

    PS have you seen this?

Honestly you've had months since the exams to start looking at places, either Galway or a couple other places to get an idea.

Leaving it until the CAO comes out is a little reckless.

Nevertheless: first years should try and stick to student accommodation (Corrib etc). You can try and rent with people you know but once a landlord finds out that you're first years (they'll the green from you) it's quite unlikely they'll let you rent somewhere. Not without a significant deposit and parental guarantees.

The other option is randomers and Daft. I've met some great people doing this but again I'd never take in a first year unless I knew them first.

And for Christ's sake, learn how to spell accommodation

Browsers have built in spell checkers so there's no excuse. You're going to NUIG, not UCD. Act like it!

    Hi,
My daughter and 2 others girls have a house in Shantalah which is a 15 minute walk from the college. They are looking for one other as they were let down late on.

The girls are in 3rd year and are pretty quiet and keep the place tidy.

The rent is €250 a month.

PM me for my daughter's details if you are interested.

    Hi Girls.
    I am in NUI Galway.
In first year I lived in Cuirt na Coiribe, gorgeous accommodation and just across the road from Dunnes and a shopping centre. I had to repeat first year coz my Dad was ill so I lived in Corrib Village for my repeat year. If it says it's full, put your name down anyway coz people drop out and you might be offered a room. Its the best place for meeting lots of friends and is so near the College too. Cuirt na Coiribe is more expensive but I'd try get into it if you could. Don't worry about not knowing anyone, I didn't know anyone either and now have made tonnes of friends :):) (more than likely your roomies will be in the same boat). Another place where I heard was supposed to be great for meeting people is Dunáras.. its mad craic andits half first years/half second years. I hope this helps!! Write to me if you have any questions etc :)

Hi everybody, I'm starting in Galway this September too, and I'm looking for some other sound first years to share an apartment with that's for rent beside the cathedral in Galway. It's 72 euro a week, 6 min walk to NUIG and 7 mins. walk to Eyre square. It's an awesome location, with myself and a first year girl I know already set on it, and we still need three more people to get. If you would be interested in this place and starting college in Galway could you send me a message? I put a message up on the NUIG first years 2013/14 page on facebook, so I'm looking for any other first years in Galway to share with. Let me know asap as I'd like to get this apartment set preferably by sometime tomorrow or else it may be gone. Message me and let me know if you or anyone you know would be interested. Thanks!

    Hi,
I'm a female going into first year in NUIG and I'm still without accommodation! Don't really know anybody else going so I'm on my own! Looking for a house share so if anybody knows anyone with a free room let me know :) don't mind sharing with males or females, just as long as its a reasonable price!

Anyone staying at Amhra house? From looking at all the boards I've heard it's horrible and I'm terrified now! Trying to put my brain at ease by telling myself it can't be that bad, but I dunno, and I haven't heard of any first years staying there either, sharing a room with a randomer as well. Anyone in the same boat at all at all?!

Hi Kate! Yeah there's only twin rooms left unfortunately, I'm staying with a complete randomer so I know the feeling! Saw your post about accommodation, best of luck if you follow through with that, I'd be in on it if I hadn't already sent in my deposit!

Don't know whereabouts ye're looking but I'm hoping for <20 mins walk to NUIG with a max of 300e a month (ideally less but it seems those houses are gone now, unless they're ages away :().
