    Hello,
You will have to buy tags yourself, if you are buying the pigs they should come tagged with and with page from the herd owners dispatch docket for you to keep, when you go to bring the pigs to abattoir you will then fill out a dispatch docket of your own, these will come with your herd number.

As to what breed, im not sure, been asking on here myself, from our own experience I would be inclined to go with Gloucester old spot, saddleback, or a cross of them. That is what we had the first time and they done well for us, but they would be inclined to put on fat quicker than other breeds.
I no of a person with what I think are large white pigs, which are doing nicely.

I would be staying away from any wild boar crosses you would see for sale, small and impossible to put flesh on. Tamworth are a good hardy pig and are lean, but will take longer to fatten.

We are thinking of going with old spot crossed with a large white and see how they go

If you get piglets from a pig breeder he will have the pigs tagged with his herd number on them. Look out on donedeal there is always some for sale on there. Are you keeping them outdoors? Have you decided what to feed them?. I get all my fruit and veg in local super market and mix that with a pig finisher.

Don't bother with tags, they are only required if you are selling them on, i have a full set. Get a slap marker with your herd number on it, guaranteed to get your pig back from butcher, i got mine from mullahone coop, think about €80.

So now all you have to do is get the piglets. I see some saddleback x large white for sale on done deal in tipperary ad is 7 days ago.
They would be ideal for you. Hopefully they are not all sold.

This is what I have this year, they are 3 months old now and are flying, really long pig.
had pure tam last year, great flavour but feck all meat, loin only about 1 1/2".
I would like to try the tam-oldspot x large white.

If you are killing at 7 months old you should be fine, if they are at weaning age, it is probably a Vet job.
usually have full males & no prob, neighbour could get a taint taste from one of mine a while ago.

    What breed has be ?.
My first time the aim was to keep them alive till i wanted them killed.

There saddle back x large white
I think I'll give them a miss not worth taking a risk or extra cost for vet castrating them
