I think he was. Yes. Basically like a really really famous and talented joe dolan.

I might as well have died the day he put the uniform on.

I remember there was an ad for an Elvis compilation a few years ago. Before anybody did anything, The King did everything...now, mind you there was also a Westlife album out at the time with the slogan "Album of a generation"

Chuck Berry is the King of Rock and/or Roll

    What rubbish

Elvis music was a breakdown of barriers. The white man who sang with the black voice.
Nashville executives didnt want to list Elvis on country charts because he played "black music"

This tosh about him being a rascist stems from a rumor of a quote that he gave in boston.A rumor that is totally false yet Chuck D still plays along with it

Elvis was hailed by the African American community, appearing on stage with BB King at various events
Going to the Memphis fairgrounds on what was known as "coloured" nights

His hero was Roy Hamilton whom Elvis thought was akin to god

But yeah lets write him off as a rascist because he was white

    Where did I say " He " was a racist ?

I said America was racist at the time , that's an undeniable fact , if it hadnt been , and the "real" musicians had got the credit they deserved , Elvis would never have been famous , thats my point , and its undeniably true !

Best thing Elvis ever did was die on the toilet in a big nappy.

Why would he be wearing a nappy sitting on the toilet?

In fairness to Chucky D, he's acknowledged that the Elvis line on fight the power was based on incorrect reports of racism by Elvis and that the line was inaccurate.

Still, fight the power is greater than anything Elvis ever did.

    There I said it.
Though I don't expect anybody to agree with me here

Elvis invented the pan fried peanut butter sandwich... for this we should never forget him.

So should we just ignore the record number of sales the Beatles had and all the records they had broke with the amount of Number ones. All while john Lennon was alive becasue it was his death that made them famous eh?

    It's the 2Pac effect.

Dead artists sell more records and become almost immune to criticism.

It is kind of like saying the first wheel wasn't very good the point is it was the first wheel. All others follow it.

Elvis was a good singer never claimed to be a song writer other than the getting his name put on writing credits as a mutual benefit to both parties.

I remember a comedian spoke of how a guy from a dirt poor back ground learned to sing and play guitar travelled Memphis and played everywhere then died in a ditch a year later a white guy called Elvis came along did the same and made it big.

Eminem is kind of a similar story by being the most successful rapper of all time.

Apparently when it comes to sales. Sean Combs probably has made more money given the businesses he has.

UB40 are the most successful reggae band.

    Seeing a pattern?

You could say Vincent Price is the best selling rapper of all time too by rapping on Thriller

Elvis had one of the best bands on the road at the time, they were great musicians and could play a brilliant live set, no matter who they were backing.
You could say they made Elvis sound a lot better than he really was.

Rubbish there is reggae bands still going around from the 60's that are a lot more successful.

    http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_artists-reggae.html

Dont even make the top 70 in this list, take out all the solo artists and they still wouldnt be in the top 30.

    Greatest/best doesn't mean successful.

Westlife have had more no1s than the Beatles if I remember correctly

I stand corrected! Doesn't happen very often, slice of humble pie :o

    From Wiki:
UB40 is one of the most commercially successful reggae acts of all time in terms of record sales (over 70 million), chart positions and touring schedule.[2] During their three-decade long career, they have been performing sell-out shows worldwide and headlining the Reggae Sunsplash music festival in Jamaica, as well as spreading reggae to Russia, South America, etc.

    70 million?

No worries I completely get where you are coming from and it is shocking they sold so much. They were massively successful in the 80s. What people miss is that cd sales boosted sales of many artists as people replaced vinyl with CD. Always irritates me the way record companies go on about copyright holders but they never made any deals where the public could get CDs considering they already paid the rights holders.

Seen them twice before and both times they were truly terrible! Some good points there. Never thought about the vinyl to CD one.

Seen someone mentioned rap, I was on reading an article about Puffy and how he made his money. The man is something else.
