    Revealed today!

At work so haven't got the video, but on the facebook page they've clarified that they're adding 'family dynasty', multiplayer, graphics engine from scratch, more customization.

    Due 2014. Cannot wait.

Find it hard to think there's going to be a new game in the series considering they're still releasing DLC for the current one.

Really looking forward to it too, will be interesting to see what they do with it.

i imagine it'll be more of the same with a few added on features

not that i'm complaining. i'd pay for a new tropico 3/4 every 2 years if it had enough new bells and whistles to distract me from the fact I just paid 30 euro for a game I already own

The desciption makes it sound like a very different game

Packed with a whole host of new gameplay features and all new artwork designed from scratch, Tropico 5 takes the series into a new and exciting direction – dynasties!

You, as El Presidente, will first take control of the infamous island of Tropico during early colonial times and then guide it through the centuries as the world changes and moves ever forward. You must tackle the changing needs of your people, as well as opposing governments and factions, and thus lay the foundations for your own dynasty. As you move through your years in office you can promote members of your extended family on the island to positions of power: such as ambassador, commanding general or even Supreme Ruler, to ensure your legacy thrives through the eras. As your influence and wealth grows, so do the threats to your burgeoning island superpower. Can you survive both World Wars, prosper through the Great Depression, rule as an iron-fisted dictator through the Cold War and advance your country to modern times and beyond? From the 19th to the 21st century, each era carries its own challenges and opportunities.

As well as a wealth of other new features, including advanced trading mechanics, technology, scientific research trees and island exploration, Tropico 5 will add cooperative and competitive multiplayer for up to four players for the first time in the series’ history! Viva El Presidente!

    Features of Tropico 5
The Eras - From the 19th century to the 21st, each era carries its own challenges and opportunities. Begin your reign during colonial times and advance your nation through the modern era and into the future!
The Dynasty – Each member of El Presidente’s extended family is present on the island and may be appointed to key leadership positions, earning skills and experience in their assigned roles.
Research and Renovate - Advance your nation by discovering new buildings, technologies and resources. Transform your old buildings into modernized, hyper-efficient designs worthy of an economic superpower!
Advanced trade system and trade fleet - Amass a global trade fleet and use your ships to secure import/export trade routes to neighbouring islands and key nations.
Explore your island - Discover what lies beyond the fog of war. Send prospectors to look for new mineral and ore deposits, but be wary of hostile animals and native tribes.
All new art - All artwork is reworked to provide Tropico 5 with a distinct historic visual identity. Choose from over 100 unique buildings from each of the individual eras.
Cooperative and competitive multiplayer – Up to four players can build up their own cities and economies on any given island map. Players can share resources and citizens, or declare war on each other.
There does seem to be plenty new here - should be good.

Having seen this thread I played 4 for a while last night. 3 and 4 are so similar that it was turning it off later that I realized it was 3 and not four I played. 5 would want to be a bit more different.

It's well worth giving them a try. They're a lot of fun and well put together.

This one sounds great. I'm loving that they're rebuilding the game instead of just making a few improvements (I've also at times not known if I'm playing 3 or 4, they're that similar). Hopefully it'll all come together.

i always know if im playing 3 or 4

    I miss you juanito :(

also the soundtrack for 3 is inspired. Friend and I actually tracked down the band who performed it on facebook, listen to it all the time and we had a whore of a time finding the proper names for the songs.

PC Gamer's just posted a "first look" article about it: http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/04/30/tropico-5-first-look-become-a-dictator-and-build-a-despotic-dynasty-in-this-reformist-sequel/

It looks very promising. I've only played 4 and loved it, so I'm gonna keep an eye on this and see what the general impressions are when it's released.

pick up 3 the next time it's 20 cent or whatever on steam/gog, it's missing a few of the new toys from 4 (metro's for one) but it's fantastic and the soundtrack + juanito is incredible

It's out this month and I can't wait for it. Even if it might be just an updated tropico 4 with extra buildings, new story mode and few other tweaks.
    More tropico - me happy!

    My body is ready! :pac:

I am not fan of added multiplayer modes for Singleplayer games, but in this case it might be a lot of fun! I am interested in Co-op mode most! Should be a lot of fun playing with budies.

Where did you preordered and how much it turned out? Looks like it's 40eu on greenman gaming, I wonder if 20% code works on top.

28 euro from gmg with 25% voucher on top worked for me

What is the release date for Ireland?

I think this will be my reward for a busy few months.

    Looks like 18.99eu here.

I will wait a bit before buying. Not sure from where though, might just go with GmG as they are extremely reliable to send out key on launch.

I've never played any of the Tropico games. Worth playing earlier ones in the series or has the standard generally been good right up to recent iterations?

Get tropico 4 for bog cheap and give it a blast. If you like economy sim that is fun and is not afraid making fun of it self then you will have a lot of fun.
Campaign is very good in it, voice acting is brilliant.

    no, get tropico 3

it's basically the exact same game as 4, but with a better soundtrack.

Does tropico 3 has voice acting in campaign? The dlc in tropico 4 is great too. ( modern times)
I have not tried tropico 3 myself, but I presume it's not going to be mistake choosing any of the two.

Quill did a video too. A lot longer, but it is better video, which is just pure "drop in and lets play" preview. Looks like More of Tropico with a few cool extras. I will be getting it so! :p

More of tropico with a good few additions, which make sense. How's that a bad thing?

I am not preordering it just yet. I will just check all cd key websites for best price on the day.

This is my plan too. I still have a lot of Tropico 4 to play through cause mostly I just Sandboxed it and went wild rather than worrying about objective based play. I suppose it's a strength of the game that I felt I got a lot of enjoyment without encountering their main story mode :)

Single player campaign looks more thorough though. Claiming independance, writing your own constitution, all sounds amazing.

Eh, still on the fence about getting T5 at launch. I loved T4 (and it actually made me a load of views and revenue when I did Modern Times on my channel), but there's just something about this version that doesn't tick right with me, although I can't quite put my finger on it as to what it is.

Maybe it's the initial fog limiting your expansion, maybe it's the trading system, maybe it's the lack of random $30,000 gifts from the Middle East...

I wouldn't make your choice based on Quill's playing of it - as much as he plays strategy games and games like this, he's not really greatly skilled at them and generally just bumbles through them by sheer dumb luck.

but but but ...... that sounds just like me when it comes to strategy games :)

I think ill pass, i got bored of T4 mainly because i had far too many games i was interested in, same scenario this time i have literally 150+ games i havent even touched yet.

He is not Great, but he is a lot better then majority. I like his Civ Videos and he is GOOD at civ.
I am off till monday, I hope I will land a good deal for T5! Shaping to be a great weekend! :D

Still makes a lot of rookie errors, nowhere near the level of skill as MadDjinn et al.
Combined with his most recent Shoshone blunders, as well as his incessant use of perma-tile yields and that horrendous "enhanced UI" mod...

I still find it funny, when people bitch how **** some youtubers are at games, but in reality, they are still better then majority of gamers out there.

I like his videos and he is still good enough player. I learned a lot from his videos about Civ 4 and 5. I am playing civ games since civ 2 and it is not even funny how bad I am at those games after watching his videos.

Matter of taste, but saying that he is **** at these games is just plain wrong.

Anyway, back on topic of T5. 24eu from here.

    https://www.g2a.com/tropico-5-steam-cd-key-preorder-global.html

I dont like to pre order from these CD-key websites as they like to do "**** you, thats why" with preorders.

MadDjinn and Marbozir are probably my favourite to watch, MadDjinn hasn't done much Civ at all lately (outside of Beyond The Monument) and Marbozir has gone a little mod crazy. Quill is okay, sometimes useful to try notice slips he makes, he's also good at talking through his thought processes too in fairness.

Anyone else decent worth watching outside of the above?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Marbo I never really got into. Maybe it's the language barrier, and the tone of his voice kinda grates against me. MD, well, we joke about his lack of Civ a lot in chat, and claim that every time someone asks about the next Civ LP it gets delayed another month :P

Shenryyr is the other great strategy guy I'd suggest, that said he too is a lot of Paradox grand strategy recently rather than Civ. Maybe Kailvin as well.

I presume they do it US time wise, but why?!

Not always, there were plenty of games, which unlocked at 12:00. I think they are just being asses.

I watched enough lets plays to say that I want it, even if it did not reinvented formula. Tropico is amazing series and more of the same with added mechenics is "very good" in my books.

Issue now, that it wont be unlocked until 18:00, which is ass. I am going grocery shoping tonight when misses is back, so it will be ages until ill be able to play it.

I easily have 300+ hours in the last two games so getting it regardless.
