What to do with a PSP with a scratched screen?

I have a couple of PSPs - one 1000 and one 3000 that have scratched and scuffed screens. The glass itself is fine, but it's the plastic film on top that scratched up. Is replacing the screens entirely the only solution or can you buy and replace the plastic top covering - I've been looking for them but can't find any online. My other thought was to just take a stanley knife to them and remove the plastic layer but I don't know if that would make things worse.
