***For everyone who's bound to ask the question; Tune in from about 11:40 ish and Conor should be on shortly after that.**

    Main card (BT Sports 2 @ 1am)

    Mauricio Rua vs. Chael Sonnen
    Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne
    Urijah Faber vs. Yuri Alcantara
    Matt Brown vs. Mike Pyle
    Uriah Hall vs. John Howard
    Joe Lauzon vs. Michael Johnson

    Preliminary card (BT Sports 2 @ 11pm)

    Brad Pickett vs. Michael McDonald
    Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway
    Mike Brown vs. Steven Siler
    Diego Brandao vs. Daniel Pineda

Preliminary card (Facebook @ approx 9pm)

    Manvel Gamburyan vs. Cole Miller
Cody Donovan vs. Ovince St. Preux
    Ramsey Nijem vs. James Vick

Thought I'd get this thread in a bit early since its the one we've all been looking forward to.

Should be a cracker of a night with a few potentially great fights lined up.

I reckon Sonnen will take Shogun on Saturday. Shogun hasn't been at his best for a good while and I think if Sonnen can take him down then he'll get the win. In saying that, you can never count Shogun out of anything.

I'm hoping Browne ko's Overeem but I don't know how likely that is. It'll probably be a win for Overeem by vicious knees.

A lot of people are picking Pickett v McDonald for Fotn, but another contender could be Lauzon v Johnson. I think they'll both be cracking fights.

And I'm picking McGregor by ko.
Some people are getting nervous about Holloway but tbh, while he is more dangerous than Ogle, I still don't see him posing much of a threat to Conor. I predict another 1st round impressive ko from him.

This is a cracking card. Sonnen has been very quiet in the media. I guess he only talks when there's PPVs to sell. I think Sonnen will grind out a decision against Shogun. I've put a bet on Browne to KO Overeem. Browne has the power to put Overeem away. Overeem's chin isn't great so I'm hoping Travis can catch him.

Matt Brown and Mike Pyle are both on nice runs at WW (5 and 4 wins respectively), albeit against mid tier opponents. I'd say the winner will start to get a push at a top 10 fighter.

Hopefully Lauzon can get back to winning ways and Sub Johnson. Lauzon is always exciting but I still think Pickett v McDonald will be FOTN.

Of course, I'll be hoping for another KO by McGregor.

So Connors not on the main card?

I agree about the Sonnen fight. Chael has controlled strikers before and although Shogun has a black belt in BJJ we haven't seen him use it much in the past. With the ridiculous pace that Sonnen pushes and Shogun's propensity to gas this could be a tiring night for Rua.

Overeem was unstoppable until his 'unfair advantage' came to light. After that Bigfoot Silva tried to be the first man to decapitate a person in the octagon. Now we'll see just how much Overeem was relying on said PEDs. My take is that Browne will play an extremely technical game and try to wrap up Overeem against the cage to avoid the striking game then transition to sub.

I really don't see what Uriah Faber gets out of his fight against Yuri Alcantara except a win bonus. Expect a very one sided fight.

Matt Brown vs. Mike Pyle is probably the most important fight of the night (national pride aside of course). Both fighters are in the twilight of their careers and both on impressive win streaks. The winner of this fight could make one last attempt to be around the upper echelons of the WW division. In my opinion Matt Brown takes this if he stays on his feet. His striking is hard and his chin is granite.

I'm pretty sure that if people were asked to name the winner of TUF last year that some would struggle whereas everyone remembers Uriah Hall and his flash knockouts. Here he's been given a potential victim in John Howard just to up the ratings. Howard may be fired if he attempts a lay and prey.

Joe Lauzon should beat Michael Johnson and send him to Bellator.

McGregor vs. Holloway should be a battle as they're both primarily striking fighters. McGregor should take it by KO. Just a side note I noticed that someone put Capoeira under McGregor's styles.

I think the Diego Brandao vs. Daniel Pineda fight is important as it the winner may be a matchup for the winner of McGregor vs. Holloway. Brandao is a strong and bulky grappler and should get the win.

Good to see Mike Brown back in action.

On the Facebook prelims Manny Gamburyan vs. Cole Miller should be a decent bout.

Doesn't look like it. The card I posted is the same as what's listed on both the UFC website and on Wikipedia.
I don't think being on the main card is too important yet. It's being televised which is the main thing at this point, in my opinion.

The main event's a 5 rounder right? Can see Sonnen easily winning a points decision, maybe even sub him in the 5th, Shoguns gas tank is so erratic, he'll be getting thrown around like a rag doll in Rds 4 & 5

Full Main card AND Prelims kick ass... good match ups right through can't wait

Joe Lauzon is a beast - 12 FOTN bonuses in 14 UFC fights is beyond mental !

Dyin to see if Uriah turns up or not.
    Picket v McDonald is tasty.
    Hope Brown knocks out Ubereem.
I think Shogun catches Sonnen on the feet!

Hope Conor gets a massive roar from the Boston crowd !

This is such a strong card. Really looking forward to it for various reasons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭unknown13

We should highlight the Mc Gregor fight and put an estimated time in the OP. This may turn into a Lesnar card, where the casuals join the chat and the same question gets asked repeatedly. Not that its a bad thing but if we have something in the OP, we wont have to be continually quoting the same question.

Cracking card this; Shogun being Shogun is the annoying thing. If he gives a shít he will win, he doesn't Sonnen wins.

    This is a good idea.

Also, maybe we should have a pool to see how many times someone will ask what time Conor will be fighting at, with or without it being in the OP.

    I'd guess.... 8!

So what time is Conor fighting????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,438 ✭✭✭✭El Guapo!

    I'll edit the op now.
What time do ya's reckon would be a safe bet?
Considering it starts at 11 and he's the third fight, I'd say if people tune in at around 12 should cover it?

11.40-12.10 should get the fight. The UFC are known to break for specific minutes, if there is a few finishes.

    I'll change it now.

While he's not formally trained in capoeira (afaik). John Kavanagh has mentioned him watching Bruce Lee and Capoeira videos and trying it out in the gym.
He thrown those kicks in a couple of fights. Recently against Buchinger and Brimage.

I assume it's business as normal in that sense. Facebook prelims -> UFC.tv prelims -> Televised main event.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 irishrebel83

let me know also about the prelims on ufc.tv, dont want to be sitting there saturday night and it only switching on for the main card!

I don't think so this time.
    It's going to be
Facebook prelims -> Televised prelims -> Televised main event

So even though Conor is not on the main card, it'll still be on the televised broadcast.

Sweet. I just bought the card on UFC.tv so should be all good.

i sent ufc.tv an email, if i hear from them i will let you know, still not 100 per cent sure yet though!

facebook prelims can watch online no problems

    and main card on ufc.tv

but i presume Conors card would be on ufc.tv also!

Just heard Harrys on the Green (Dublin) are going to be showing the event on a big screen - McGregor is third on the Prelims I think so that'd be about 23:45.

Really looking forward to the McGregor (obviously), Lauzon and Pyle & Brown fights - absolute cracking card this.

Yeah, SBG organised it as a "viewing party" type thing.

So not only are they showing it on a big screen, but there will be the best possible atmosphere!

Pickett vs McDonald should be absolutely cracking.

The whole card is stacked to bits, I can't wait!

Definitely post back, I want to get the PPV on ufc.tv (no sky) but it would suck if the McGregor fight was televised only and not streamed.

I seem to recall them being about 3 euro this time last year alright. Don't remember when they went free.

I emailed ufc.tv about the non-facebook prelims as well, gonna have conniptions if that fell through the cracks in the new TV deal somehow :)

    .

I'd be happy to see faber on the facebook prelims

As for john howard...My take on it will be that he will
try to take the head off uriah
I've never seen howard do anything but stand and bang
and this hopefully won't be any different
He's been there with much better fighters than uriah
Halls knockouts have been of guys who will never make the ufc

I'd be amazed if that fight goes past round one

I think if Howard tries to stand and bang with Hall he'll be put to sleep. Whatever you say about Hall's grappling credentials he's a very skilled and technical striker. Although it might be nice to see someone bring the striking pressure to Hall and see how he copes.

Ellenb couldnt put hall to sleep
Howard is an animal and is the perfect opponent for hall to showcase his striking as he'll keep coming forward and hes hard as nails but hes a brawler
I honestly believe howard could even put away hall
Either way it should be exciting

If you go to ufc.tv they have the prelims are the main card as two separate upcoming events.

Conor's fight is on the prelim event. Looks like its going out for free

Holy shít  Sherdog fantasy league have McGregor at 92% of picks saying he'll win.

I think he'll get the win but not as convincingly as people think.

I presume you mean Ellenberger couldn't put Howard to sleep. It's funny that his last fight in the UFC was against Matt Brown and that Brown is on the same card because he's someone I'd compare Howard to. Chin like granite and not afraid to press forward.

Plus I have some lads coming over on Sunday to watch it all.

Same as myself. I've had too many cards ruined on me by friends. And my friends don't even watch mma!
I used to stay up for every single card but lately I've had stuff to do early the next day so had to tape the events.

Is Harry's on the Green not showing the whole card including the main events? Anywhere to watch the main card if it's not?

    Fantastic card.

Sort of hard to pick the main event but stylistically I would fancy Chael to grind it out. Shogun has decent power but gasses too quickly and I'm sure Chael will be putting a pace on him.

Fancy Browne to finish Overeem. Like some others, I think Overeem is highly overrated and some what mentally weak. People forget how good Browne is.

Faber to beat Alcantara but it its a dangerous fight for him. It's sorta lose lose for Faber. Alcantara has a good record and is dangerous. Bloke knocked out Ricardo Lamas in the first round.

Brown Pyle is the most anticipated fight on the card for me. Think both guys are brilliant to watch but I think Browns chin is what will make the difference and fancy him to TKO Pyle at some stage.

Hall Howard, I think Uriah Hall decision. Lauzon to submit Johnson, possibly by leg lock. Pickett by decision and McGregor by decision.

    Phew, some fecking card!

Thank you for contacting UFC.TV support. The prelims are not available through the app. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

So looks like will not be on there after all!
