Sorry for your loss but I thought you were talking about an E26 so I have breathed a sigh of relief upon opening this!

    Your car Fitz?

Oh no just reposting thank god. Distinctive car, these are often parked up in out of the way location to see if they are tracked. More eyes looking for it the better.

Hardly in any way a fair comment to make about anyone's car being stolen.

What was MO , keys got or other ?

Time to go back to the good ole kill switch methinks.

    A 1 series is replaceable. An M1 isn't.

While it is horrible to have anything stolen, never mind your car, the title of this thread stated something more grave than the reality.

Sounds like they broke in and took the keys from reading the link.

The title states an M135i which is pretty clear. If it was an M1 it would state an M1.

But I do think what you wrote is entirely unfair given its the only one in Ireland that was stolen and obviously meant a lot to the person who owned it. Add to that some scroat broke into their home to steal it.

On crime.ie it states keys taken from house , that clears that up.

    It infers it there

No such thing as an m1. M135 is as close as you get.

    1) The title has been changed since my initial post. It initially described the car as a BMW M1, which it is not.
    2) I have stated in each of my posts that it is an awful thing to happen.
    3) A BMW M1 owner will have a bigger headache trying to replace his car than a 1 series owner.

Well that clears that up then.

I still disagree with the rest of the "only" a 1 series crap though.

    Well, you're just wrong.

Thread title says M135i. If you read it wrong, that's your problem.

It's a very nice motor, couple of months old. Are you just saying that because it's a 1 series, it doesn't deserve the same attention? Isn't it the only M135i in the country?

Feel sorry for the owner. A very rare car and the one of the coolest 1 series.

Looks like a perfect car for the "job". 4 door super fast small hatch. It's a shame, but most likely it will be found burned in a field after job is done.

And yes, I am categorically stating that having a BMW M1 stolen is a greater loss than a car that can be re-ordered from Joe Duffy on Monday.

An M1 is a very rare classic supercar
A 1M is a very cool modern car that ran in limited production in 2011

    The stolen car is
The BMW 135is (E82) coupe/cabriolet is sold only in Canada and the United States, as the European market received the next-generation 1 Series, the 2013 BMW M135i (F20) 3-door and 5-door hatchback. Despite the differences in chassis, both the 135is and M135i share the same engine, however for their optional automated transmissions the 135is has a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox while the M135i has an 8-speed automatic.[36][37][38][39]

Wonder what the market is for something so rare. I wonder if it was professionals stealing to order and sending it to some shady country.

I'm delighted the biggest contribution you can make to a thread which is meant to help someone get their car back is to post your relief that its only a 1series that was taken.

Honestly they've had their house broken into while they are there, a rare car taken and now a lot of stress sorting out the insurance and the thoughts of people being in their house and all you add is relief that its a 1 series that was taken.

    Get a life

Hi, As you can see I'm new.

Is it just me or would it seem that ba barabus is a little grumpy this morning ;-)
    late night last night?
or is this his normal "What you talking 'bout ...fool" game? [/U]

I also am sorry for that persons loss - Friends of mine have lost bikes/cars.
(This sort of thing doesnt happen down here in Cork ;-)

The hole in the "left in a quiet spot" to see if it has a tracker theory, is that (I believe) most trackers work on sending a location fix via mobile phone network - so a cheap jammer (the one's that the more professional scroats use for B&Ei-ng) - sorts it out 'till they find the tracker.

I saw a firm on fleabay uk that will do up a personalised window sticker with your Reg No. on it "This vehicle is fitted with a tracker....." Anyway to get the scroats to Walk On By.
Or a sticker on your front door " Keys Are Kept In Security Box At Night" - again something to make them go elseware (I guess you risk getting "Woken-up" and asked for keys if they really want what you have)

Sorry If this stuff has been covered before

Give it up ffs; Im sure the owner will take great comfort in knowing that some keyboard warrior feels that their car is less of a loss than another more rare car

Its a real shame to hear stories like this; hopefully it will turn up. A lad I know recently got his BMW back after about three weeks, when it turned up on the far side of the country largely unharmed. Its a distinctive car, so hopefully someone will be able to come forward with some information.

Me thinks the car is on the way to the uk,happened to a friends neighbours car,car was found by pure chance on the ferry,(keys had been fished),followed up operation by AGS and the police in uk, found a lock up with over 30 motors, seemingly it was some eastern block gang in and out of the country doing the deeds.

Tracker uses low frequency signals to communicate it's location in order to avoid jammers and concrete walls etc. Lots of police cars in the UK are fitted with Tracker receivers(fitted by the company), allowing the police to actually find cars which ate reported stolen. Do any Garda cars have the same receivers fitted, or does Tracker operate in this country?

    Kevin,
I think you're right about the "Tracker" system - as far as I know It's a subscription system in UK (US etc).
I wasn't aware of it being available in Eire.
What I meant is a Thingum that you hide/fix in your vehicle (car/bike/boat/caravan/plant/tractor), that is either rechargeable (work for 60hrs ish) or you can 'wire-in'.
You put a mobile phone sim card into it and every few mins (user defined) It sends a little GPS generated 'chirp' via the SMS message system about it's location.

You have an App/software that gives you a history of locations overlaid on Google Maps.
I think the GPS thing can also report speed of travel (Big Brother(concerned parent) on the youngsters driving habits/location)
    ?? Cheating Husband/wife suspicion??

If you search or look on amazon/flebay for "GPS GPRS Vehicle Tracker"

I'd say that car was watched for sometime and stolen to order which would suggest the thieves had an escape plan. I'd say it's either in a container or on a ferry at this stage.

Hope I'm wrong though and it's returned to it's rightful owner undamaged.

Are you really talking about the m1 (e26)? I can't imagine any of the 3-400 or so ever built have drive on Irish roads.
(I wouldn't be as aggressive as you in casting asparagus on other people's cars if you can't get the designation correct; you mean a BMW 1M Coupe.)

    Asparagus!?!

Frank Keane BMW has one AFAIK and it's been driven to various car shows over the years.

Sorry for the owners loss anyhow - I'll keep an eye out.

Will keep my eyes peeled for this...an M135i would stand out to me as I've yet to see one in the Republic and toyed with the idea of buying one. I'm amazed the scumbags managed to find the one M135i sold in the country! Pot luck or inside information I wonder??

I just came across this thread, I am the owner of the stolen m135i and I'd like to thank everyone for sharing this and keeping their eyes open. I haven't got much hope of it being found but I think it's important to spread the word and make people aware of the frequency of these types of crimes. Thanks again!

Well at least if it isn't found, then your insurance company will pay out enough for you to buy another new one :)

Anyway, I'll keep my eyes open, I'm not that far from the Rathcoole area myself

Great car there Garby, sorry about it getting nicked, the same thing happened to me a few years ago and its was actually found by a boards.ie member. It was not a happy ending but it was helpful.

Boxed and crated says me......they went after this car I'd say as a special order. I wouldn't even say its in the country by now.

All this country will be left with is sub 2 Litre diesels sounding like bags of spanners.

Sorry for your loss OP ......

Sorry for your loss Garby. Hopefully the insurance will sort you out with a new one (assuming you take the "risk" of another one :()

As an aside, looking at the picture it seems that the garage the house came with (based on the one down the road) was converted as so many others have been into another living space or large shed for household junk.
I don't know why the Irish can't use a garage as intended but with the increasing inability to have nice cars parked outside it's something we really should think about.

Hope you get sorted quickly in either case Garby.

There is always a lot of speculation about these cars being stolen to order. Usually that is not the case in Ireland cause we basically have a poor stock of good cars although there are rings that steal cars to break them and export the parts.

This car was more than likely stolen for a job, its in a lockup/underground somewhere waiting for the time and after it will be burned out. Funny I had a car with the same engine stolen for a job also, seems the getaway drivers like turbo petrol engines and RWD. These are crimes of opportunity, the crims drive around looking for good cars and houses that are easy to break into to get the keys.

At least OP its fairly new, so the insurance wont drop a massive depreciation bomb on you. My heart breaks for you, that must have been your pride and joy, a real enthusiasts car for those that appreciate cars.

I've been listening to all sorts of conspiracy theories over the past few days. Theories on where the car is; chopped up, on a boat, hidden away waiting to be used in the next big job! Theories on how they found it; I was followed, they have inside information, opportunistic, trackers! And stories about how they get your keys; boiling water (with added sugar I heard yesterday), guns, hammers etc. I've been told about multiple instances of gangs operating locally who specialise in this form of activity and have generally learnt a lot about the potential risk you are attracting when you buy a car like this. It's disgraceful to think that car enthusiasts like myself are exposed to that risk. There seems to be a very low hit rate on catching these criminals. The lack of repercussion probably helps to inflate the frequency and brazen nature of the crimes. It's great to see the power of social media in action as the original post from crime.ie has been shared and reshared by sympathisers and car enthusiasts alike (I was at a garage yesterday looking at new machines and the rep asked me was that the Facebook car). I have little hope of ever seeing that car again and probably don't want to but I think it's important to create an awareness of these crimes as they usually go unnoticed...thanks again for all the shares and interest!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,480 ✭✭✭YbFocus

Very true man and you probably will never know what happened or where it went at the end of all this.
It's sick that we can't have a nice car in this country without this crap happening.
If your not a regular here then you wouldn't see the stuff that gets reported stolen on this forum, RS4's and 335's are common on here.
It really ain't a fair world we live in, where those guys can rob car after car and it seems the guards can do nothing about it.
It's almost like if they get ten minutes with your car on the road their free and nobody will get them.

Sorry now I'm just ranting on here, really gets under my skin!

Yep. Though the Gardai do catch some of these scumbags, too often they just don't have the resources and even if and when they catch the scum, the judiciary have a habit of handing down too lenient sentences. It's the perfect storm that means crime against property is usually low down the list in this country. The Gardai had a major anti burglary drive recently and IIRC they have a couple of thousand cases lined up. Now watch as how few will end up in prison, but god forbid you don't pay a fine or debt as chances are high you will see the inside of the Joy.
    Sobanek wrote:

+1 and a secondary quality alarm, a couple of hidden switches that disconnect something important are also a good bet. Increase the security around your home, given these scum are now targeting the keys in the house. Floodlights, house alarm that you switch when you're in the place, that sorta thing.

Still, until the authorities here start treating such crimes more seriously it's gonna continue as it's too low risk and high return for the scum as it stands. It would make your blood boil.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
