And now, the end is near,
Hold back the tears, enjoy the last waltz.
    For Mir, will disappear.
Her Summer run, is almost over.
    It mostly wasn't good,
some of the time, it was quite dreadful.
    And so, spoiler alert,
here are the last guests ...

    Joe Duffy from Liveline,
will talk and talk, he loves attention,
    And Kiera Dignam too
She's with her Dad - Christy from Aslan
    Susan McFadden's here
In the West End, she's rated highly
    And eigh-ties singing star
    Alison Moy-et

And that will be that, there is no more.
it made us smile, it made us snore.
Miriam's spell, as chat show host
Is over now, just like this post.
She loved her guests, thought they were great
    Most gen-u-ine-ly.

    How is Christy these days?

Is the OP an homage to Patrick Kavanagh?

Joe Duffy to bore everyone to tears with a recession tale about Deco from Ballyfermot who has resorted to stealing pens from Ladbrokes to fill out his FAS application forms.

He is battling on, he performed at the concert organised to raise funds for his medical bills a few months ago

His appearance for Miriam's show was filmed a few weeks ago. Hopefully he will keep making progress.

Not for the first time, that doesn't feel like all the guests to me - so I haven't yet ruled out Daithi O Se and Rita Talty appearing... :o:o:o;)
What odds may we offer, then, on Daithi and Rita turning up next week? Don't forget, the Rose of Tralee is almost upon us... :D:D;)

Although I've only been able to watch the first three episodes and have had to rely on Boards to fill me in on the rest, I have to agree that this series mostly hasn't been good.

When it started, I talked about how the 2011 series was pretty good, and how the 2012 series was dreadful. It's probably fair to say that this series hasn't been quite as bad as the latter, but neither has it been anywhere near as good as the former.

The number of overseas guests does feel like it's increased from last year, although unfortunately the standard of them has been generally low. Jeffrey Archer certainly didn't sound interesting, Rachel Wyse is someone I'd actually never heard of before (well, I don't have Sky Sports News), and Sarah Harding...

    tumbleweeds01.jpg

And who can forget Elizabeth McGovern's musical performance? I'm afraid to say that I'd still rather hear nails on a chalkboard... :o:o

Meanwhile, I still haven't warmed to the new opening titles and theme tune - although there's very little doubt that they'll still be in use next summer and quite likely the summer after as well, assuming RTE don't pull the plug in the meantime.

And there doesn't appear to be much doubt either that much of the budget for this year's series went on making these titles and composing this theme tune, and booking the aforementioned overseas guests - leaving remarkably little to spend on Miriam's wardrobe. Could she really go 0/8 on wearing dresses?!

They probably will, just to ruin my 'My Way' homage in the OP :(:p

Is Duffy really on, Skid.. I cant imagine what he would have to say.. Will they ask him about Pat leaving? About his wages or bias in presenting his show? Oh hang on, he's probably flogging some documentary about trains or something, is he?

edit: I think I know now.. Joe was gushing about Christy Dignam yesterday so I'd say he's on to do with that..

Hi Jonathan, The RTE blurb tells us ...
Joe Duffy will discuss people power and his love of painting

    And the full whack is
Aslan frontman Christy Dignam and his daughter Kiera will be among Miriam O'Callaghan's guests in the last episode of the current series of Saturday Night with Miriam at 9:40pm on RTÉ One.

The singer will be discussing his cancer battle and will duet with his daughter on the show.

Also joining host O'Callaghan will be singer Alison Moyet, who will talk about the art of songwriting and surviving fame.

Joe Duffy will discuss people power and his love of painting, while singer and dancer Susan McFadden will talk about starring in the musical CATS and performing with Celtic Woman.

I'm betting Miriam will completely come at him out of leftfield by asking him: "Joe you take 12 times the average industrial wage out of the public purse for answering the phone. What would (your oft mentioned pal) James Connolly think of your brand of socialism?"

Strange to see Alison looking so trim after all these years.

    Susan McFadden is hot.

I'm sick of the sight of that Christy Dignam fella. Drug addict at death's door...who cares?

Nice to see Alison Moyet back. She is a decent singer.

Better than any other song on the show this run (even though Mir claimed each and every one of the them was 'the song of the Summer')

I used to love Alison but I'm not sure about this song.... she seemed to be singing from her throat (a bit like Andrew & Rob Strong) ... maybe it was just the song...

She thought Live Aid was going to be in Wembley Arena?

Ah, Alison. Sure Dire Straits were in the middle of a run there, they had to hire the outdoor field instead.

Of course we are! I just hope that that Clare make it that far, anyway if we are beaten by Limerick, I'll be happy to support Limerick again the winner of Dublin V Cork.

    (Sorry Harry :p)

I'd say that if Bressie was on the show tonight he would give her a lecture about 'singing from the wrong place' :D

Didnt recognise Alison Moyet at first. She's a decent guest.

I hope i misread that earlier post: Joe Duffy is on to talk about painting? Why would anyone care that Joe Duffy likes painting?!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

Mir "You found it hard to deal with fame"

Alison " Yeah, but I don't want to go on about it"

Too late Alison - once they get a sniff of misery they go in for the kill. Although Mir isn't quite as bad as Tubs.
