Sheamus injured, out for four to six months

MRI results indicate that Sheamus has suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder and will require surgery, scheduled for next week. As a result, The Celtic Warrior is expected to be sidelined for four to six months, WWE.com has learned.

The injury occurred during the Money in the Bank All-Stars Ladder Match and was further aggravated over the following weeks. During that intense match, Sheamus was thrown off the top rope and sent crashing through a ladder at ringside, landing hard on his left leg and left shoulder.

“My mindset heading into Money in the Bank was to risk everything to get that WWE Title contract,” Sheamus told WWE.com. “That night I went out there putting it all on the line.”

While it seemed as though his leg had taken the brunt of the impact, swelling to twice the size of his uninjured right leg, The Celtic Warrior soon found out that his battle scars from that night ran deep.

During WWE’s tour of South Africa, Sheamus’ leg started to heal, but he discovered his range of motion limited in his shoulder and he experienced sharp pains radiating down his arm, he said. During a pre-Raw workout, Sheamus felt another sharp pain in his shoulder and notified WWE medical staff.

“We performed a specialized MRI with a dye inserted to highlight the structures within the shoulder joint," said WWE ringside physician Dr. Chris Amann. "Doctor Samson and I both reviewed the film, and it appears that Sheamus has a cartilage [SLAP] tear.”

As a result, Sheamus will undergo arthroscopic surgery next week to fix the tear, which doctors hope will offer him the best chance of recovery and the best outlook for a normally functioning shoulder.

"I’ve never in my whole life had to have surgery,” Sheamus said. “I’ve always worked through pain. For the first time in four years, I’m going to be out of action.”

He continued, “To say I’m devastated would be a serious understatement, but I’m determined to take this time to go home to Ireland to see my family, to see my friends, learn a different language, read a lot of books, and come back bigger, stronger and better than ever.”

Intent to stay positive through his injuries, Sheamus emphatically said, “I’m determined to be a champion again, and when I come back I am going to rock this place like it’s never been rocked before!”

Stay with WWE.com for more information about the status of The Celtic Warrior.

Pity for him, he's been treading water since Mania. Hopefully in the time he has off they'll come up with something for him.

I was only thinking recently that he's been lucky with injuries especially for a workhorse who they use so often on tv and live events.

I'm glad that he'll be able to take this time out and come home for a while, he often mentions on twitter that he misses the old sod.

Yeah injuries are the new WCW essentially.

Sadly we will never know where 1-800-FELLA was going to go. :P

Could be an opportunity for a massive return after Christmas. His crowd reactions this year ain't what they used to be. The time off can only be good for him too.

Sad to see him hurt but the break will do his character a world of good.

That's him off the November show in Dublin then :( Might make an appearance, but shame...

He actually cursed himself the week before Money in the Bank:

He lives more or less down the road from WWE Rehab Facility.

There is a bit in the Eddie Guerrero book where Eddie talks about his first ladder match being crap. But says that the one thing he learned from it was to commit to bumps 100% involving the ladder.

I believe that Sheamus didn't commit 100% at MITB. There was a moment of hesitation before bumping on the ladder. He took it on his knee and hand/shoulder too. Looked messed up. It would appear that whilst Sheamus has many strengths, a ladder match or perhaps even high spots are not one of his strengths.

Sure in the same match Sheamus landed on RVD :pac: When van damme pushed the ladder, Sheamus should have hotshot himself but he just bumped on RVD :pac:

Says 4-6 weeks on their FB.

Good time for him to get out, was getting some negative heat from the crowd so some time off should do good.

Get him out for pints if hes home lads ;)

Well. @WWE will be a lot less Cetlic for up to half-a-year, me #MITB shoulder is banjacked... No tears. It's not me drinking arm.

Probably a good thing for Sheamo. I'm sure he needs the break and the Dublya Dublya E will be better off without him for a bit. Hopefully the break will freshen up his character a bit, perhaps a new theme when he comes back.

As said, the time off screen will probably do him the world of good.

    ****e.

Hopefully it heals up well and quickly.

Hopefully the surgery goes well and he doesn't suffer any recurring problems. At least he's not like Barrett who got injured weeks before Mania. If the surgery and rehab goes well then they can have him back for the road to Wrestlemania and set him up with a good feud.

Might end up being a positive for him.

My thoughts exactly. Unfortunate to see him hurt and require surgery but with a character that is becoming annoyingly stale this break is just what his character needs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

Even with the stale directionless character they probably won't repackage him on his return. The kids like him and his merch sells.

They could still keep him face but just introduce a little more edge to his character. The corny jokes and jovial fighting Irishman sthick is very grating.

I still think WWE missed out by not having him feud with Orton, hope it happens when he returns and by then Orton might be gone fully heel :P

I'm sure if WWE need them for certain appearances or something, they'd be obliged to attend (for example, if he was injured a few weeks before Wrestlemania, they might still make him attend the Axxess shows and stuff).

Other than that though, if the WWE doesn't need them I'd say they can do whatever they want so long as it doesn't put them at risk of further injury

Maybe he got injured on purpose just to get home for the matches. :)

What I don't understand is why they would not use trusted, experienced wrestlers to help their NXT and FCW crowd on how to work an audience, how to build a match etc. as additional support to existing trainers and teachers.

I'd say there probably is a bit of that too, maybe closer to when they're almost recovered, but at the same time I'm sure they realise it's also a good way to let the wrestler have a bit of a break away from it all anyway. It depends on what the wrestler wants too. For part of when Punk was injured he stuck around to do commentary.

Sheamus makes comments that could be construed as a) his rerurn might be delayed and b) turning heel with the "going back to his roots" comment:

Hopefully he returns as a heel,he was far too bland as a face once the novelty of his turn wore off.

He should come back wearing his auld KOTR outfit too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

Look forward to seeing him back.

He was really starting to flounder before the injury.

Hopefully he can come back as the dominant ass kicking heel.
