Maybe I'm just a crank but there are some car mods you see around that either make me laugh, or just get angry, not sure why but top of the (rather long) list for me is this:

    Why? It looks rubbish, rubbish!!

    • Self done crappy window tinting with bubbles all over it.
    • Rattly chinese clip on stuff for the dash (Non OEM Cup holders, sat nav mounts, notepad holders)
    • Stupid looking bodykits that look like they came out of an airfix kit.
    • Massive spoilers that do nothing other than hinder opening the boot properly.
    • Clip on exhaust things that only make the exhaust louder
    • eBay "chips" that are just a resistor and a few wires
    • "No Fear" stickers
    • Alloys with the wrong profile tyres so that they scrape off the wheel arches going over any sort of bump.

    Think that's me done

Anything rebadged as something it's not.

    ie RS4 1.9 TDis. GTI 1.4 Golfs. M3 318s etc etc.

Actually seen an S4 1.9TDI Quattro the other day, double exhaust lowered suspension and a big cloud of smoke. Most annoying thing about it was they had triangle tyres all round :D

'Neverbeen' stickers. The people that put them on cars should be banned instantly from driving because anyone that retarded cannot possibly have the skills required to drive safely on the roads.

Air/fuel ratio, voltage and vacuum gauges on the dash.

Cheap crappy universal back boxes welded onto cars that don't fit properly and pointing down/sideways.

But the one that deserves a punch in the face is tinted windscreens with the lower 12inches left clear. Oh how I would never get tired punching the **** that do that!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,452 ✭✭✭Ronnie Beck

**** blue ebay headlamps and coooooooo. Stupidly loud exhausts that distract you when driving. Otherwise each to their own.

Thats the thing. All the light is going up in the air, not on the road!

If the reflector is designed for use with a HID capsule it's fine. The issue with HIDs in reflector housings designed for halogen bulbs is that the focus is wrong for them so the light gets scattered everywhere.

I have to admit to running a set of HIDs in reflectors for a while (until one of the ballasts went tits up) and while the light output to the road was great, the amount of light scattered everywhere was huge (I could light up gantry signs almost directly above the car!) and that translates into glare for other road users. I use Osram Nightbreakers now and they're more than good enough.

There are some HID retrofit kits out there supposedly designed for use with halogen reflector headlamps but I haven't been able to get any reliable information on how well they work, and I don't have the money to find out for myself.

Regarding the main topic, I've mellowed out on my opinion of mods over the years :) I still think a lot of the things mentioned here are daft, but each to their own once they're not causing difficulty for other road users.

I misread the title as "motors mods that make you irrationally angry" and thought to myself "this thread won't last long!"

In addition to the above, fake bonnet scoops annoy the bejaysus out of me.

Damn right! It'd take a fair amount of jacking-up in order to apply Meguiars endurance tyre gel :pac:

Yes, jacking up, not jacking off for all you dirty minded apes!

Hate seeing taxi's with Chinese rubber on them, really annoys me. It's a PSV vehicle first and foremost and a personal car second.

In the same way all Garda cars have premium brand tyres and so do buses, you don't see a Dublin bus on Wanli's do you? I think Taxi's should be the same.

Offset number plates unless theres a massive intercooler installed.

Or smoothed over rear tailgate with the numberplate screwed on to the bumper and a massey Ferguson style number plate light

    German plates

    Lexus lights

    Chrome strip tape on lights

    Chrome door posts

I copped some trailers used in the df use wan-li. But the gpv's, ffr's and trucks either use michelin or bridgestone

Lowered anything that was once a decent car. Like the MX5. What sort of clown thinks he can out-do Mazda engineers who have come up with what is almost universally acclaimed as the best handling roadster in existence by adding some ebay suspension components and lowering the crap out of it?
And Baby-on-board signs. WTF? They serve no purpose only partially block your back windscreen. "Oh look, they have a baby on board... damn, I can't crash into it now... and I was looking forward to t-boning them at the next junction when they turned right."

That car is running on air.

Dangerous modifications aside, I can never understand why people get so upset about what other people do to their cars. Shows unnatural levels of small mindedness and ignorance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭ednwireland

anything non- stock, looking for a car at the moment and the amount of cars with stupid slight modifications is amazing. if i'm buying a secondhand almost banger i want it to be as standard as possible. if someones d1cked around with a car i have no idea to what standard is been done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭keithsfleet

I've a ford puma sitting outside the house that I have no idea how it came in to my possession.

I was going to nct it and sell it but...
I'm now kind of thinking of doing to it what has been mentioned in this thread.

Only parts purchased on ebay and in Punchestown shall be used for extra vrooooom effect.
But mainly because I'm not willing to put much/any money into it.

Any badges on cars that label it something it isn't and obviously it isn't!
2000's Jettas lowered and re-badged to a stupid level, lads passed by myself and missus one night at the cinema, I thought outloud and said "what the fk is that", windows down and one of the hoods replied "its a sports car you fat git". I had the MPS at the time and pointed and said "even that isn't a sports car and it wud make a fool of that tractor". I know I shudn't have taken the bait! :)
Cars with 6 small spot lights on the front bumper.

I'm old though, so stupid mods irk me easily! :D
