Might be handy to include what gear also, I'm heading to the shop soon so I'll have a look.

Mines the same, it does sit at 4k at 120 kph in 5th gear, 1L Corsa C. Took me a while to get used to

    Just a tad over 2000rpm at 120kph in 6th. Focus 1.6TDCI 115bhp.

I think mine is about 4k in 5th gear at 75mph. Its an Integra Type R that revs to nearly 9k though so 4k is pretty much idle revs :P

Corsas at 120kmh? Put them in 1st at that speed and watch them die a grinding torturuous exploding death

As for revs at 120 its been done many times before but anyway mine is 3k on the button in 5th. 406 1.9TD

I've done 600km motorway journey in my dad's 1.0 corsa, keeping maximum speed.
Pedal to the floor most of the time, and car kept going 150 - 155 km/h except from inclines. It was at night so traffic was minimal, so I barely had to take foot off the accelerator.

Car made it no problem, and didn't burn any oil either.

I'm not really sure what you mean it's poor...

Do you thing the lower the rev's the better or something?

I worded that poorly. Its not necessarily poor but it sounds like you have to thrash it a bit to get anything out of it.

A wee 1.5 diesel Rio it just idling along at just over 2,000 revs at 75 mph. Just ticking over nicely. Yours seems to rev very high at that speed. Not necessarily a bad thing a'tall, I suppose its just comes down to taste.

I don't think revving engine high is trashing it.
Petrol engines like high revs, and there's nothing wrong with driving constantly at 6000rpm for prelonged time.

This mazda provides enough power at low revs to cruise gently and not block the traffic when green light comes on, but if you want to feel the real performance, you have to rev it to 6000 - 7000 on the first three gears to obtain good acceleration.

As gear ratios are quite low, then revs on 5th gear at higher speeds are high.
It makes some extra noise, which some people might not like, but I never mind that, and I love the sound of high revs.

But people who think that anyone who revs it engine above 2500rpm is trashing it are far from true.
Petrol engines once keep in proper state (regular oil changes, timing belt, etc) are ready for working at high revs, and it doesn't cause any damage or even extra wear and tear.

    Good post mate.

There's no doubt that working an engine isn't "bad" for it. As a matter of fact, you're far better off working her than "lugging" her. Lugging can cause damage over a prolonged period of time.

What I meant by the thrashing (again worded poorly on my behalf!) was more towards fuel economy and noise. If you're revving her high on the motorway, she must be fairly thirsty?

And perhaps she mightn't be as refined as a car on lower revs? But as you say, you like the sound of a high-revving engine so that's a bonus as far as you're concerned.

    50km/h- 1,100 rpm

    Megane 1.5

It is lethally gutless above 80kph. Even in third gear. Getting to that point it's actually not bad. 2nd brings it to 70.

    That doesn't really match.

If you have 3k rpm @ 100km/h in 5th, then you will have
    4k @ 133km/h
    5k @ 166km/h

    It all goes linear.

Come on Cinio, this isn't a scientific experiment in a high-tech Laboratory. The bloke's got a 10 year old Micra and he's giving you the rough readings from the Rev counter on his old motor.

Its not going to be to the exact measurement you'd expect bro.

Possibly no car has a precise rev counter no matter if it's old or now.
But reading that he provided were way out.
If rev meter is not precise, it's still probably linearly not precise.
    100km/h at 3000, 120 at 4000 and 160 at 5000 just seems way out.
