I've been toying with the idea of cutting my usage down to bare bones. Peoples ****ty opinions and bull**** attitudes really get me down. Worse on here when I know I most likely share a country and polling booth with some of the nonsense.

You can do more on the internet than read forum sites you know.

Jasus no. I need the internet to meet women. I don't know where I'd be without my Plenty Of Fish account.

No. Then I would have to go interact with real people like in the before time. Do they still play Ace of Base in shops?

They do, on a loop. One of the worst days of my life having to set foot in that shop. Never again.

Without the internet, how will girls send me pics of their diddies in reasonable timeframe?

    That's mostly what I do.

I'll put it quite simply, someone asked me once would I rather give up the Internet or food, I would give up food, I know that sounds ridiculous but I love the Internet, I am never bored when I have an Internet connection. I had to babysit in a house where I had no Internet connection before, I was there for over 24 hours and all I wanted to do that entire time was leave, I even tried walking to the shop to see if I could get some coverage, thought I was goin to loose my mind.

Give me a chicken dinner over any internet.

What's this Internet thing? Never been on it. Sounds intriguing.

I went a year and hope to again.
I don't own a smartphone and have no plan to get one.

I can't be the only one that finds it utterly depressing that the majority of people are connected to the internet in some shape or form almost 24/7?

Ok, it can be a useful tool to share things with friends on occasions, but i find that shared moments with people now lose their value somewhat when people are sharing bloody near everything with everyone they know most of the time.
Remember how you could have a great time with a small group of mates, and it'd be remembered only by the few who were there.
I guess it's because I'm more introverted than majority of people I know that I don't see the point in sharing so much.

I often wonder where this 'always on' thing will eventually lead us.

this image sums up my feelings pretty well.

Nope, it's of way more use to me than, say, my spleen.

I obviously use internet (else I wouldn't be posting here!) but I can just as escape easily live without it. I have zero interest in having a Smartphone and am sick of people telling me if I had one I'd love it.I don't feel the need to be connected to the internet every minute of my life.

Yes I could, I had no internet at all up until 4 years ago, it's handy but would be no big deal if I had to get rid of it.

Its like the time I tried being a vegetarian. It lasted a day.

I'd be lost without the internet.

10 appendixes (appendice?), a gallbladder and both little toes!

I could live without it, although I don't want to. I couldn't work without it though.

I can live without it. I only have an internet connection because my sons want it.

Only today I came within a few seconds of closing my Boards account. I don't really use the internet for much any more, it wastes too much real life time. Good for reference/DIY etc, crap for real life.

I could do this for ages if I had enough books to keep me going.

Yes I can, but can the internet live without me?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,854 ✭✭✭Sinfonia

I'd be happy to go without for a period (not forever), but I think it'd be **** unless everyone I knew also did.
That said, there's a whole bunch of free stuff and services I'd have to do without, which would be a pain.
So I guess I'd be happy to quit social networking sites, but then again I just moved abroad so it's my only line to family & friends.
**** it, I'll just stick with it so.

    But without the internet....

What will all the keyboard warriors do???

Would people return to buying porn??

No countless videos of people hurting themselves or doing incredibly stupid things??

I will not know what my friend has had for breakfast or an others photo of their child some kind doing some child related activity??

I use the internet for Skype and such to keep in touch with all of my friends and family back home.

I think living away from home would be 1000 times harder if I could not easily contact the people at home.

For personal use I can easily go a few days without it but if I'm working then I need it everyday.
If I don't need it and don't have it I couldn't care less.

I think a better question would be can you live without boards? Anyone with over 10,000 posts shows real dedication, or addiction, whatever way you want to look at it. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,342 ✭✭✭✭starlit

For few hours/days maybe but longer than that no!
