Know Your Limits - .22 Game

I was looking for some fun targets to shoot at when I came across the Know Your Limits target. I never shot it before and then thought it might make a good game for everyone to have a go.

Here is how it will run:
    • Targets will be shot at 50 yards in the prone position.
    • Because I have posted this in the hunting section you can use a bipod and a back bag. Front rests are not allowed.
    • There is a maximum of 80 points on offer, that's if you have the confidence to go for it.
    • To make things a little more difficult you must complete the top target first before you can move onto the bottom target.
    • You have to break the line to get the points.
    • Once you have finished/gone as far as you can post up a picture of your target and what you used (rifle, etc) in the place where you shot the target.
    • You can use any ammo you want and any magnification scope you want.
    • You can shoot the target as many times as you want and move up the board.

I'll keep a leader board running to keep everything tidy.

    Lastly have fun!

Will the target print from the PDF format to scale ? Or is there a scale you would prefer it to be printed at ?

It should print out to scale. The one I have printed off has the 20 points black ring just bigger than a 50 cent coin.

How many goes are you allowed have to enter the leader board. Are you allowed do a few and enter your best or just enter your first go.

You can have as many goes as you want. You can enter your first target with say 30 points and then shoot a few more to try get a better score and move up the leader board.
It's all just a bit of fun and something to challenge you.

As I have the .22LR in the safe for the last 2 years now, and have only used it a couple of times, although I did fire 50 rounds through it each time, I am kicking to have a go at this, and thanks for putting this up, as I don't shoot a range and just the local bog or Club ground, what's the best way to mark out the distance to be fair.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,147 ✭✭✭dev110

Just step out 50 nice sized paces. A yard either way won't make much of a difference tbh.

I have managed to confuse myself.
How does the scoring work you say 80 max but if theres 1 round in each circle its 105 points top and 105 bottom ?
are we only to shoot 1 round at each until we miss or hit them all clearing the card ?
and do we shoot the circle trying to hit the black line or just in the circle?

this is my stupid question of the week. and what made it worse i goggled it and every sites different.

Question, why are bipods allowed and front rests not?

You start on the top target and start with the 5 points circle. If you get it in the circle or break the line you get 5 points. You can then choose to move onto the 10 point target if you want. If you do and get the round into or touching the black ring you get the points if not you end up with zero points. This continues all the way up to the 40 points target. You must complete the top target before you can move onto the bottom though. If you complete the top target and then miss the 30 point target on the bottom target you end up with zero.

Also the 40 points stand for the top when you move to the bottom so if you stop at the 30 points on the bottom target you end up with 70 points.

I have confused myself trying to type this so if it doesn't make sense let me know and I'll try explain anything you don't understand.
    LB6 wrote: »

Because a front and back rest gives way more stability and plus this is in the hunting section so most people will have a bipod.

Dev, once we have our shot targets, what's the procedure? Just post them up as an attachment in this thread?

That's only 20 points man, you have to fully complete the top row BEFORE moving on to the bottom row. :) I know, it can be confusing. Keep at it, I'll prob get mine done tomorrow.

    Not cheating.
if you miss the 40 scoring target then it's not worth going on is it.

So start with the 40 point scoring target and then the next highest ans so on till you hit the 10 point target. Then move on to the next target again try for the 40 point target first.

1shot16 is first up with 20 points.

The reason I made the rule that the top target must be completed first is to put the pressure on the shooter when they're on the bottom target because you really have to concentrate and if you go for the second 40 points circle and miss it you end up with 0 points.

So your scoring each target with the ONE highest scoring shot and not the total of all targets hit?????

There's an Irish shooting coach who had one shooter in particular whose attitude was irritating him. The shooter in question had little meaningful competition here and was cocky, and getting sloppy, allowing himself lazy shots. So the coach told him to keep shooting until he got a nine. The shooter stretches and warms up, does some dry-firing and gets settled, then starts shooting. He starts off with a ten anyway, and starts getting a few more, and after about a dozen shots he gets a nine. So the coach says "Right so, pack up and fcuk off home now." The idea was that in training, you shoot perfectly and focus on that perfection. It's a good exercise, and seems like a nice touch of what's happening here. For the record, that shooter, next time the drill was done, had something like 37 tens before he got a nine. Focus is everything!

Well lads here it is my entry, after 15 sheets got some great shots but got greedy but will settle for this one for a start. The Scope nearly broke my heart not great a bit blur.

Remington 597 LR with Tasco Pronghorn scope PH 3-9X32mm using CCI standard 40 grain. Shot in my local bog with a 20 foot back stop turf wall.

I'll give it to you this time but for the next targets you need to shoot the 5, 10, 20, etc and keep moving up. So for the target you have entered you should have a bullet hole in the 5, 10 and 20 also.

Headed up to the range yesterday to give it a go. I was late leaving so everything was pegged into the back of the car, or so I thought. Got up there and while getting set up realised I forgot my mags for the CZ and my back bag. Wasn't to impressed with myself and was surprised I brought the bolt at that stage.
I said I would give it a go anyway just for the craic. Turned the scope up to 18x and let fly.

So close but still ended with 0 points. Hopefully next time I'll bring everything with me.

    what rounds/rifle ya use?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,147 ✭✭✭dev110

Bottom row is grand but you have to complete the top row to have the bottom row count.

Using a CZ 452 Style and SK Standard Plus ammo

oh yeah, I see now. still trying to grasp the rules. it took me months to understand the "offside" rule when that came in.
