OK So when the LC results come out, do we get offered places by the CAO only via post or can we check what we are offered via the CAO website under my application?

The CAO arnt there to dick you around like that and as far as I know all offers come out at the same time. Thats how it is for LC regardless of when you last changed your form.

You need to get on to them and see whats the story.

Called up the CAO, and explained that I wasn't offered anything.

me: Hello, I was expecting an offer for yesterday but didn't receive one"

CAO Person: Erm, You didn't receive one so.

    Me: I know, that's why I'm calling. {*Insert "You don't say" meme here*}

CAO Person: You MAY (Sounded very sarcastic) receive one in the next round.

    Me: Oh right so bye.

I was fed up as that person didn't even want to speak to me or help me in any way. Disappointed is an understatement for me. :( So The chance of me receiving an offer next time is pretty slim imo..

So what should I do? I'm totally lost now...

I am a bit confused by your post. Did you do your LC this year or do a FETAC/PLC course?

If LC then the offers are out on the 19th of August at 6.00 a.m.

Some FETAC/PLC applicants received offers yesterday, most have to wait until the 19th of August also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,446 ✭✭✭Corvo Attano

Now the above I wasn't aware of. I though all FETAC/PLC places were either Round A or Round 0

    Late application for what?

    Mature student?
    FETAC?
    Leaving Cert?

Nobody here is going to know which date applies for you unless they know which category you applied under.

FETEC, but you know with the first round of application go through, the in March, they give you another chance to apply for the course then.

Meeting the criteria for the course doesn't mean you'll be accepted. If the OP got 400 points which is the max through Fetac and there were 10 places on his/ her course of choice and 15 people applied with 400 points from Fetac courses then it would probably go to random selection.

Doing a Fetac course does not guarantee that an offer will be made.

Pestering the CAO won't make them change their mind. The only thing the CAO can do is make sure the Fetac results were reveived by them for entry into the system

But usually, if you don't receive your first choice, you then receive your second, if not second then third etc etc.

    I havn't recieved anything at all... :(

Sometimes but not always. The same thing could have happened on all of those courses, particularly Nursing which I believe has become quite popular to enter through FETAC. Former student of mine did Nursing PLC, got 8 distinctions, no offers. Simply too many applicants.

Check with the CAO that they have your results, but you may have just been unlucky or up against candidates who had higher points than you. Lots of mature students, early school leavers, students who didn't do well in Leaving Cert are now using PLCs as an access route to college. If you applied for popular courses in popular colleges getting in may not be easy.

    Moved from LC.

Given that you are applying to CAO based on your FETAC results, I suspect that the good people here will be more familiar with the relevant systems.

    Oh just too add,
At the same time as first round offers of places are issued to successful applicants, notices are sent to those who do not receive any offer.

I got no notice yet, So maybe there is still hope????

Only the CAO have the answer to this.

    Ring them on Monday.
    Quote your application number/exam number/whatever.
Tell them you were expecting an offer and didn't receive a letter either way and confirm if it is standard practice to receive a 'no offer' letter if you don't get an offer.
Check with them that your FETAC results were linked to your application.

Only then will you know for definite.

Ok so I received no offers in round zero like none! Rang cao and were told they have no bloody results for me and everyone from my college are in the same situation.
No one knows who's at fault and why weren't our results sent to cao, it's bloody ridiculous.

I would suggest calling cao just to confirm if your results are there or not.

Surely if they got no results for anyone attending your college then your college is at fault and should be your next port of call? The CAO can only process applications where they receive results, it's not up to them to go chasing results. Crap for you and your classmates, but follow it up with your college immediately.

Of course we were all onto the college, they weren't sure what happened, rang QQI/Fetac and was told college submitted them for the wrong round?
Also our results are resubmitted now, all they said was they are very very sorry.
The college will be investigating this next week.

Edit: I was dumbfounded that day, couldn't believe it of course CAO already said this to me. But now we have to compete with leaving certs.
After spending so much, working so hard, wasting a yr wasn't expecting this at all.

FETAC have four periods of certification during the year. The most common one for PLC colleges following the typical school year is June so you probably did your exams in May, results are processed in June and submitted to CAO for July/August offers. They must have submitted them for one of the other FETAC assessment periods.

I have no idea about that but yeah did my exams in May and got my results in late June. I'm definitely sure that my results were submitted to be in July/August offers.
Anyways the college will be investigating this next week, so we will be getting some answers then.
For the time being we are told that we will get offers in round 1.

Actually FETAC/QQI have 6 certification periods and some of the very large providers are on a rolling certification process with their own internal dates so it is difficult to establish which certification period they are entering the candidates for.

Once you received your results from your college then they were entered on the FETAC/QQI system so it is more than likely it is in the transfer of the results file to the CAO that the error occurred. It is probably likely that this error will be treated in the same way that if a Leaving cert students results changes as a result of an appeal then they are not disadvantaged and if they are entitled to an offer they receive it.

You may receive your offers in Round 1 but that does not mean that you are competing against the Leaving Cert students (see the code on your course on the right hand side of the page on the FETAC link on the CAO website). It just means that instead of having a special round for your group your offers are included with the Round 1 offers.

So don't be too disheartened, remember the various organisations -your centre/college, FETAC/QQI and CAO work towards ensuring you receive what you are eligible for.

    Best of luck

First round on Monday, only the big colleges (UCD, DCU, UL, UCC, NUIG, NUIM) had offers on the first. All the IT's and the smaller colleges will have the offers on monday and we'll be competing with the leaving cert :)

It is not based on the college as to when the offer is made but rather on whether there is a quota or not on the course ie whether it is in Round Zero when reserved offers for FETAC and Mature applicants etc are made or 1 which is when Leaving Cert students get their offers.

See the code alongside the course in the CAO listing for FETAC Information
    http://www2.cao.ie/fetac/fetac_search.php

UPD - The score is used to rank applicants among school leavers as well as those presenting FETAC. This means you are competing with Leaving Cert students for places.
MAN - The score is used to rank FETAC applicants for consideration for entry to a FETAC quota course. This means that you are only competing with FETAC applicants as there is a quota reserved.

    Best of luck
