AKA; please make me feel better and say I'm not the only one tied up by these.

I've got 6 (4 maths, 2 biology), and I'm varying everyday wrt being set for them.

Just kidding, I do sympathise. I had 4 in first year and failed one of those.
On the plus side we have crappy weather again, there was no way I'd have been able to study during the heatwave.

Housemate and I had nine repeat exams in 2nd year back in the day (I was working for the Christmas and half of the summer ones - rent had to be paid!).

Biggest. Relief. Ever when we passed.

So what happens if you don't pass your repeats?

you will probably have to repeat the subject next year in full. It may vary from department to department though

Watching every possible PatrickJMT video in relation to Integral Calc.

By the grace of the Gods and Patrick I will pass these exams.

But could I progress to 2nd year and still take the module? Or would I just be repeating that module? It's English by the way. I just can't get time off work and I'm worried about failing as I've done very little study.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

Nope, you can't carry a module over to the next year. DCU used to do it I think, but the idea is that you can't enter a new year unless you progress, and you only progress by completing the previous year's credits.

This is upsetting. Called in sick to work, guess I gotta cram.

MT102 was not pretty. Really banking on 101 to save my life

Any chance you could post up the paper so we can have a look at it?

Looks like a fair enough paper. The usual standard for the repeat really. Up a bit in difficulty from the original, as always

Thought I was well prepared, in the end doesn't seem like I was. Although, I am so ready for 101.

Thanks for posting that up marko93. Looks challenging enough but I'm sure you did fine.

Probably bottled it yet again, still have 101 to save me and the 111 and 122. Should be okay.

    EDIT:

    School boy error. Problem solved!

Body, while you're here real quick.

    Critical pts is f'(x) = 0

    f(x) =4x^3 - 6x^2 - 24x +17
    f'(x) = 12(x^2 -12 -2)

    Doing that but getting x = +- sqr 14..

    would that make sense?

    You made an error there.

    [latex]f(x)=4x^3-6x^2-24x+17 [/latex]

    [latex]f'(x)=12x^2-12x-24[/latex]

Critical points occur when [latex]f'(x)=0[/latex] so we let

    [latex]12x^2-12x-24=0[/latex]

    Dividing by 12 gives:

    [latex]x^2-x-2=0[/latex]

    Factorising this results in:

    [latex](x-2)(x+1)=0[/latex]

which implies that critcial x values are:

    [latex]x=2[/latex] or [latex]x=-1[/latex]

Yeh, was hoping to get the EDIT in before you seen it!

Sorted it in the end. May I PM you with a question? :o

Bottled it in Elementary Number Theory today. I need my other two maths repeats to go near perfect to make the grade now.

hey any of you old timers know when the results of the repeats are out? :)

Sorry, completely forgot to throw it up. Ignore the writing, it's probably wrong. Just throwing out what I thought was the way to do it.

Thanks mark. Is there a mistake in question 2b? It says to use differentiation by first principles to differentiate [latex]l(x)[/latex] but it doesn't say what [latex]l(x)[/latex] is!! Did I miss something?

Edit: Sorry, my mistake. I see it now!!

At the risk of sounding like a parrot, I posted this in general discussion thread too! :P

Is the second part asking about the evolution to Dinosaurs and how they became the dominant reptile for that era?

"Describe the origin of reptiles and outline, with examples their radiation during the mesozoic era"
