Ever got anything good from the free section in Adverts?

Seems to be full of piss stained mattresses and old books with sh1tty thumbstains.

I gave away a 32inch crt flatscreen a good few years ago. Probably could have got €80 for it but my sis was being a beach and said she was gonna chuck it because it was broken. All it done was turned off itself once every few weeks. You turned it back on and it was good to go for weeks/months. Some guy was chuffed with it and a lot of people in quickly after disappointed.

My mate got a cool sofa bed thing for a tenner. Not the best seat but it's handy for a spare room and looks great when not in bed mode.

I gave away about 50 VHS on here before. One user was happy with them and he gave me an unexpected giant bag of Jelly Beans in return :) Win win win.

People are like vultures on the 'Free Stuff' section. 'To hell with whether I actually need the things in question or not.. if they're free I'll take 'em!'

    Reminds me of -

What brand was it? Because that's almost exactly the same reason I gave away my TV.

People are like vultures on the 'Free Stuff' section.

One of the people who offered to relieve me of my stuff was a right chancer.

She was a woman who had the worst feedback ever. She seemed to keep trying to get free stuff, arrange to meet and then she would never turn up.

In her feedback this happened about 30 times.

When she contacted me first I agreed to give her the stuff, then she pm'ed me asking what bus to take to my house.
Then she told me she had 3 kids with her and could I meet her at the bus stop.

It was at that point I checked her feedback and cancelled the deal!

Give away a fair bit of kiids stuff on it as well. Nearly everything I've given away has been good condition.

Somebdy took a item of children's furniture from me (it needed very minor repairs) recently and then PM'd me a few days later to ask could they fix it and sell it right back on adverts.

Could hardly say no but I was pissed off as plenty of other people wanted it and I had intended for it to go somebody that genuinely needed it for themselves.

I got my house from the free stuff section, some guy was giving away a chest of drawers.
    Bargain.

There is a hardcore group of freebie vultures on adverts just sitting there waiting & refreshing the freebie page.
I remember checking one of their comment histories and it was nearly all "ME PLS"

Then you get the bickering between them or the sob stories about how their kids would love this piece of junk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,797 ✭✭✭Sir Osis of Liver.

Why is no one admitting to getting one of the pissy mattresses?

Are you quite small that you can comfortably live in a chest of drawers?
If so, where is your pot of gold? Tell me, tell me now!!!

Or the ones that PM you a pushy request even though they're something like 15th in the list.

Would nearly be worth it to advertise something there for free just to hear all the sob stories & begging letters I'd get.....only thing is, it's a Wii I'd be giving away & not sure anybody would bother with it

I once got a bbq from the free section and is working now for over a year. Sometimes it's a great place but there are vultures alright.
    They must sit there All day F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 :)

I was giving away something and asking the 'buyer' to pay postage, nobody interested.

Put it up completely free and it was gone within minutes.

Put up something else for free and someone from my town said she would collect it. 2 weeks later and she 'hasn't found time' to get it, so it's gone to someone more deserving.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,925 ✭✭✭✭anncoates

Don't really mind sob stories. Just not the pushy ones. Would just love to be able to tell who needs the stuff but there's no way of knowing.

That said, I tend to put stuff up regularly and anybody that I know sold on free stuff of mine will never get a thing again.

Annoying as that would be you kind of have to admire the sheer bare-faced brazeness of some people

Still makes you feel horrible when some of the replies (assuming they were genuine) seemed actually quite desperate to pick up free stuff for their kids.

There's a free sofa here but it appears you have to take their bags of trash as part of the deal :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,797 ✭✭✭Sir Osis of Liver.

Whats with all the full wheelie bins on it lately?
Who in their right mind expects to off load that sh1te,some even asking for money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 233 ✭✭Mary28

I gave away kids stuff and it was on sale again a few days later. Really annoying as she sold a cotbed to someone for 30 quid and it was someone like that i had hoped it would go to.
Gave away a half broken camera once and a lovely man met me and gave me a sketch of his as a thank you.
Now I give away free kids stuff on sites like rollercoaster or magicmum and you can check their posts to ensure they are genuine.
Anything else goes to charity shops and clothes bins so hopefully people who need them get them.
If I buy something from a site I try to make sure its not coming from one of these leeches by checking their history.

Some people look like they are selling on everything in their house that's not nailed down, crappy items - used cheap flip flops, bras etc. they literally have hundreds of items in their sold/active list.

I was scanning through some of the free stuff on Adverts and saw "Oxegen".
At first I thought someone was giving away some air.:o:o

I have never got anything off boards. But my grandfather got a drawer unit that someone was about to donate to saint vicente de Paul about 20 years ago. My brother still uses it but it's so rotten

A bit off topic but would make an interesting conversation piece http://www.adverts.ie/crazy-random-stuff/a-pair-of-reg-kray-paintings/3499199

not free stuff on adverts.ie, but freegle.

this last week I've given away 4 bikes.

I've also got 3 back. two were dead so I built one good one out of the parts.

so out of 7 that COULD have gone to landfill, only one frame did, and 6 people are now happy that they have a new bike.

over the years, I've got a dining room table & 6 chairs, a banjo, 5 or 6 guitars and I've given away a heap of stuff too.

    don't diss folks generosity.

I gave away a smashed up aquarium just so I didn't have to find a skip for it... People will take anything once it's free.
