Guys with muscley upper-bodies, skinny lower-bodies

There's a bit of an epidemic (or whatever) going on. A load of guys going around having clearly spent plenty of time in the gym training their upper bodies, while almost completely ignoring from the waist down. It looks absolutely ridiculous. Anyone else noticed this a lot?

Muscle shirts, yet skinny jeans = the gym gone wrong.

    :)

And no there's no point to this thread. Everybody's beautiful no matter what body shape. Just asking.

They're obviously happy with how they look.
Live and let live, they're not doing anything wrong.

Friends don't let good friends skip leg day.

I am, to a very moderate degree, one of them guys. Only so much time I can spend exercising and I don't care about my calves.

Because legs day is a tough day and they don't train them enough so probably get doms a lot

It's the new "drumstick" muscle fashion.

I noticed this in the gym, usually see a sexy pair of legs passing , then look up and notice they're connected to a guy

I don't see the point in putting in all the effort and ignoring an important part of your body.

If you don't care for your calves then they won 't grow up to be healthy cows

I'm one of those guys - I prefer to have broad shoulders and chest, slim hips, a flat stomach and thin legs so that I can squeeze into skin-tight jeans.

I was in the jacuzzi after the gym yesterday and the amount of guys who had skinny legs and amazingly toned shoulders and arms but HUGE absolutely massive guts was unbelievable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭pharmaton

I've a pair of thighs that could kill a man, sometimes wish I had the skinny leg problem. :o I do 50-60 weighted squats a day though just to keep them nice and taught and attached firmly to my butt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,528 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

Upper body strength isn't worth much if I can just take your legs from under you. These guys don't want to be functionally strong they want to look good, sometimes for themselves often for others.

I guess its a matter of squatters rights!

    1) A lot of guys in the gym, dont really have a clue what they are doing.

    2) A lot of guys dont like "leg" day and some skip it altogther

    3) If you see guys that are massively out proportioned it usally means steiroid usage

    4) And for all the guys who say they dont have time for calves etc.... a proper leg workout releases a lot more testosterone into the body than a upper body workout.

I've naturally muscular calves and legs but you have to put as much into your legs as you do upper body.

If you think girls only care about your arms you'd be wrong. A pair of muscular footballer legs is damn hot as well and nothing to be ignored

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,380 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

my upper body is fairly solid, but my lower half isn't. it's nothing to do with going to the gym, i just have long, thin legs, even if i did go to the gym my legs wouldn't getting any thicker. When i used to play football very few could knock me off the ball, if the upper body was involved, however i'd lose out in leg tackles most of the time.

A girl recently did say she liked big arms on a guy, but no mention was made of whether she found my legs are attractive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,908 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

I'm lucky enough in that i don't have skinny legs so apart from walking thats all the toning they get.

I don't go to the gym as I can't afford it but have a few weights at home and do push ups to keep the chest hard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,796 ✭✭✭✭Jamie2k9

Mean in skinny jeans, is pure and simply wrong.

How girls find it attractive beats me as they probably have fatter legs that most of the men in skinny jeans.

I haven't seen too many guys who are way out of porportion. I think you'd have to be on roids to get that Johnny Bravo physique. I must admit I do hate training legs but I still do it. They are still quite skinny though.

Most fellas in the gym these days spend more time looking in the mirror than actually doing anything

I have to assume you are some sort of professional athlete?

I work in an office, and it'd be a very, very odd day indeed if I were forced to depend on my functional strength.
'Hey UCDVet - good job on your powerpoint slides, but unless you can defeat Greg from Accounting in the CIRCLE OF DEATH - we're gonna have to let you go'

    - Don't worry boss! I train legs so they can't just take 'em out from under me. I'm ready!

Nah that's just the Tallafornia and Geordie Shore type dudes. The same type who spend hours working on their tan.

Most people who 'bodybuild' are ridiculous looking to be honest. Massive biceps and miniature forearms, huge pectorals and no shoulders. Add that to the inflated look they get from creatine and they end up looking comical

I love the idiots who come into shops for lunch after the gym shaking up the protein in the shaker while holding it out for everyone too see. Shake for 30 seconds or so. But yet still shaking it 10 mins later at the checkout

Just Fúck Off you knobs and drink it in the car or in the gym before you leave.

I only do leg presses, lunges, stiff-legged deadlifts and calf raises for leg training, people say you can't get big legs without squats but I would rather quit bodybuilding than do squats.

Creatine just gives you a little boost, it's not a bloody steroid.

Squats are widely regarded as the most beneficial exercise alongside maybe deadlifts. Why would you not do them?

They are very bad for your knees.

1 in 3 people who squat will die as a result of the shrapnel from their knees exploding. I read that somewhere.

What do you mean "only"? There are people who have only ever done heavy squats (and maybe front squats as well) for their legs and they'd have a far more impressive lower body than anyone doing some weird combination of machine and isolation exercises, genetics notwithstanding.
