    Well,
Had a loan of this and actually loved it.
    Comfy.
    Nippy.
Grand around town which is where I do most driving anyhow.
So I sat down with my wife and discussed.

Ended up buying it for buttons.
    Happy Days.

    Only 3346kms on it.

    1.2 tsi

    So.

    Let the modding beging.

    First thing is German plates.

Thinking of lowering. ( springs or coilovers?)

    Decent wheels/tyres.

    Full stereo/speaker upgrade.

    Hid conversion.

    Anything else?

German plates are so 2009 - even on German cars they are naff.

A roof box and a hitch...

More seriously, I really like those yokes.

You should have asked that postman to move his post van before taking the picture of your car.

    What's up lads?
We already have one vRS in the house so I decided 2 are just a waste. I thought this would be a fun sort of car to have and mod.

    Yes Plug, This is it.

    From a VRS to that!!!

Bloody hell Vectra, are you takin' the piss?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

I haven't driven one but a few similar cars and once you get used to them, and snide comments, they're grand.
I wouldn't go crazy on the modding since it's looks weird when you mod a family car imo.

A "My other car is a vRS" sticker ?

Looks like a good family wagon. How much are they?

    I can't handle the disappointment :( I just can't.

I like the idea of modding this, needs subtle mods methinks but quite unusual and practical! Go for it and well wear :)

I hate FE script though, just my onion (yes, onion) are there any other plates available?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭Bigcheeze

Has the 1.4TSI been dropped? 1.2 is the only petrol option on the current price list.

Lads if he really did buy it, then we are really tearing him apart, we demand a picture of Vectra behind the wheel.

I'm sure it's comfy, nippy enough for purpose and very economical too and well wear and all, but I just couldn't look at that on my driveway. The design - and that's being extremely kind - is an abortion of mismatched angles and curves. Look at the transition from front cabin windows to rear. Was the "designer" drunk or sucking on high power blotter acid? No really. It looks like a cut and shut at the B pillar.

There seem to be more and more of these ugly mismatched sections cars popping up these days. The SssssangYong Rodius another eye pain. Well the word Odious in the name gives the game away. I mean who would purposely spend their hard earned on a new one of those. The fiat Fiorino another. The nissan juke yet another. With that one at first you might think "hmmm maybe its so ugly it's cute" and then after hitting your head with a hammer you see the light.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Cool little car, IMO especially if you already have a VRS. It'll come in handy if and when you need to move bulky stuff too.

Yes and no. A good mate of mine bought a Fiat Multipa. A car so ugly the first time I saw it, I broke the laws of anatomy by vomiting through my eyes. However it was a great car otherwise. Very comfy, roomy, economical and practical and strangely never let him down. You just had to avert your eyes getting in or out of it.

I like these as vans go but as a car it wouldn't float my boat. It's probably in the worst colour possible for modding too. There's almost nothing you can do with a grey mini-van that won't look tacky or forced. Leave it the way it is or give it back would be my advice.

  • Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 11,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭MarkR

You'd be surprised what you get used to. I drive a vrs diesel. On holidays, I had a citroen c4 petrol. Was perfect for me, wife, sprog, and luggage. Couldn't fault it. Made me consider a smaller / smaller engine car next time.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,217 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

Seriously? I'm genuinely not taking the piss here, but there isn't a basic law of design that's not being shattered into a million pieces by that car. I mean just look at it.
    skoda_roomster_overseas_04-0619.jpg

We're ok up to the bottom of the windscreen, but then it starts to go horribly horribly wrong. There's barely a good line on it.

I for one love awkward projects, and this is as awkward as it comes, so I'm looking forward to see what happens with it, it's a change from the usual "I used this super shiny polish on my already super shiny bmw today" that's for sure

Totally not directed at the bmw bunch :pac:

Thread title should be changed to The Roasting of Vectra :D

Oh and to keep on topic.

That Skoda makes my SEAT Altea XL 1.4 tsi (to give it it's full title)look like a master stroke of design and engineering. :pac:

A friend has one the same bar it's a 1.6tdi. Lovely car he does 70k km a year in it and has never had any hassle with it and there's almost 200k km. and as said some subtle mods would be nice. Not the nicest car ever to look at but there spacious reliable and comfortable (I done a 800km trip in my friends one one day and thought it was comfy). Well wear.

Crashing a Hyundai accent into this one night improve the looks.

Giving out something that awful looking is a great way to keep rental period down.

    I would suggest this;
    crusher-opening-header.jpg
Insert into area covered by white cross and press play. :D
    Matt Simis wrote: »

Nail on head MS. It quite literally hasn't anything approaching a nice design feature past the front wheelarch. The lines are all askew. Nothing gels at all. The front door is awkward. The window line is too high(never mind the daft curve which goes nowhere). The rear door is as awkward as a one legged donkey and doesn't even try to line up with the front treatment. Hell the A pillar doesn't even sit right. The roof line is all arseways. The rear quarter window looks like it's hitching a ride and the rear lights... good god the rear lights.

Seriously, how the everliving feck did this car go through the many many millions involved in building a new car without someone, anyone holding up their hand and saying "good jesus people it's an abomination in metal"? It makes the car that Homer Simpson designed look like a runner. Shít the Rodius is better looking.:eek: A little bit of sick came up just typing that.

My kettle is equally reliable, but I'd not stick wheels on it and call it a nice looking car.
and as said some subtle mods would be nice.
    See above crusher suggestion.
Not the nicest car ever to look at
See Oxford English dictionary for this line given as an example of understatement. :D
but there spacious reliable and comfortable (I done a 800km trip in my friends one one day and thought it was comfy). Well wear.
All that said you've a good heart to say that. :)

TL;DR? I'd rather be seen in a hearse. In the back.

I see them as useful. Basic utilitarian car. Perfect for dogs, DIY. I kinda like the quirkiness of it, especially if you have another decent car for when people you know see you!

The Multiplla was ugly but a coherent design; the cut/shut style of the Roomster jars rather than strikes. I could drive a multipla but never a Roomster.

If you're going for that sort of car then IMO a Yeti looks nicer. Congrats on the new car anyways...
