was getting into car this afternoon, turned to my right and saw a big a$$ bee heading in my direction

Grabbed the door handle to shut door fast and thought he got in, but looks like I just got the door shut in time and nailed him good

Had this monster got in, he would have done serious damage to me with that stinger as I'm extremely allergic to bee stings

Not just that, they're in a rapid decline and a major campaign has been launched to save them. It's quite serious, linky. I love taking pictures of them pollinating

We have random nests of them in the garden and lots of flowers for them (2 laburnum trees, rhododendron, honeysuckle and an array of different flowers) to keep them happy and productive

It didn't deserve that to happen to it and worse take pictures of it like that. I'm rather upset at that :(:(:(

Its one worker bee its hardly going to collapse the colony now is it. Some larva will step up. The queen wont shed any tears.

Sit back down again, that's over the top.... It's a bumble bee and harmless, but you can't expect everyone to know the difference ,

A neighbour is allergic to bee stings and has to carry the necessary meds to counteract if stung, not in any funny...

Reminds me of a story my mother told me. She was driving on some quiet road in Connemara with my dad reading the newspaper in the passenger seat. Must've been driving slowly as a bee came in the window and she left through the door just as quick. The car rolled to a stop and my dad was still reading the paper.

Urging people not to kill bees as they are rapidly declining.
Read a report somewhere, not sure of exact % but it was something mad like 50% of the food we eat has had a bee involvement.

Bumble bees sting but only when defending hive or under attack.

If a bumble bee stings it rips its abdomen open and it dies shortly afterwards.

Wasps keep stinging. Once got one caught in my sleeve and it kept stinging me. Nasty critters.

For gods sake, someone with a bee allergy accidentally shut a door on one bee. Its not like the tracked down their hive with a can of neonicotinoids.

If you have ever driven a motorway in summer you have killed bees. Those bug splats on your windscreen are no exclusively non-pollinators :)

Hopefully the op read it in the spirit it was meant to be read.
    ie tounge in cheek.

Of course it's a serious issue for someone with an allergy but hopefully it dosent effect their sense of humor.

    Lucky OP

Re bumble bees and not stinging/die if sting all wrong according to wiki

    Sting

Queen and worker bumblebees can sting. Unlike a honey bee's stinger, a bumblebee's stinger lacks barbs, so it can sting repeatedly without injuring itself. Bumblebee species are not normally aggressive, but will sting in defence of their nest, or if harmed. Female cuckoo bumblebees will aggressively attack host colony members, and sting the host queen, but will ignore other animals (e.g. humans) unless disturbed.

it's a Bumble Bee.According to the laws of Aerodynamics, they are unable to fly .

dont worry folks, I'm not offended by any comments made here

I didnt intentionally intend to kill the poor creature
Just saw him heading for the car while I had the door open and tried to shut the door before he probably got inside and may have freaked out and stung me

Cant believe he actually got nailed in the door the way he did

There was even a drop of venom on the glass when I opened it up

I gave him a good burial

This evening my dad arrived home only for a bee to fly into the car. It didn't freak out, just was at the window. A jampot with some card and we had it buzzing freely in no time :)

A car of mine in the garden was recently infested with bees, I have yet to figure out why  what a nice surprise as I sat in not knowing it was almost a nest! :p

That car would have been up for sale were it mine, dgt!
Every year, without fail, Im stung. Though in fairness that was up to two years ago.A record i plan on adding to:). Generaly wasps but some bees too. And jesus does it smart! Nice sore little lump off them both that doesnt leave for a week! Last time I got was when, to prove a point, I let a bee land on me. What his interest was in me Ill never know.... It took the git less than five seconds to bury it. And five minutes to remove the sting with pumping guts. Two weeks before that mark vanished:rolleyes:

That's a life sentence so that is, unless the OP can prove self defence. But the burial could be perceived as premeditated, it's a tough one....

Turn yourself in OP, your conscience will only eat you. Telling us here was good start

If you have a normal reaction, not hugely. For some people the more they get stung, the worse the next one is. Know at least one person who has been warned the next sting could be fatal, they need to carry one of those pens.

I was rolled over by a car in a poorly thought out prank. Wasnt badly injured thankfully but id almost let it happen again before id share a trouser leg with another wasp.

He was right. As much as I dislike them. Wasps and even moreso Bees are the most important Eliminator/Pollinators around. Its been on my mind that well be in big trouble if they do disappear.

Driving this evening, there was a discussion on the radio about the bee problem and the "expert" said that if we lose the bee as a pollinator we would lose about 30% of our food variety.

We wont starve but our diet will be bland and boring.
