Forget Springfield. The Simpsons are making a new home in Orlando, Florida. That’s right. Homer, Marge and the kids are getting their own mini-theme park inside Universal Orlando Resort this summer, according to the New York Daily News.

The new area within Universal Studios will include the pre-existing Simpsons Ride as its centerpiece in addition to a new outdoor, “intergalactic” spinning ride called Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ’n’ Hurl, Universal Orlando said in a press release.

There will also be plenty of hometown eats in the park’s “Fast Food Boulevard.” That includes Krusty Burger, Frying Dutchman, Luigi’s Pizza and Lard Lad. Visitors can also throw back a few pints of Duff Beer – brewed exclusively for Universal Orlando – at Homer’s favorite watering hole: Moe’s Tavern.

While billed as an entirely new theme park, the Simpsons-themed attractions are more of an expansion on the existing Simpsons franchise at Universal Studios Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood since 2007, Mashable points out. The Simpsons Ride was launched at both locations in 2008.

This isn’t the first time Universal Orlando Resort has based thematic events and rides around film and TV institutions, Variety noted. ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ made its debut at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando in 2010, and has since garnered much success with its replica of J. K Rowling’s imagined world. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Universal has profited nicely from visitors’ spending habits at the boy wizard’s world, which includes a collection of shops and eateries found in the Harry Potters books and movies.

They have been building that place for a while now. I wouldn't go just to see that but since it's part of Universal, I would like go for a look. Would like to eat at Krusty Burger and drink in Moes for the novelty

It's no Duff Gardens (unless Surly is there to goad people), but might work out well!

    that does sound enticing

Ordering a Krusty burger with cheese or a partially gelatinated, non-dairy, gum-based beverage would be fantastic.

Count me in for the food novelty alone.

I think I'm going to take up drinking again.

Oddly enough I was at Universal California today. We skipped the Simpsons ride as a 75 minute wait time for a simulated rollarcoaster is ridiculous... Especially when the 360 3D tranformers ride is so incredible.

Does it sell BORT license plates?

What's the bets they won't actually have novelty food names, but rather Bart Burger, Marge Milkshakes, Homer Hotdogs, etc.

Although they'd get bonus points for having Bort license plates, but with none in stock.

I was at the one in Orlando a few years ago. The main thing they had then was the simulated rollercoaster. It was actually a lot better than i thought it would be. Think they did have a Kwick E Mart shop front and a few other bits and pieces but they weren't proper shops if i remember correctly.

Yeah I'd go. But I wouldn't go there just to see the actual theme park. Would be cool in fairness.

Ya, having a Duff or two in Moes would be great fun I think. Wouldn;t go specifically for it but would make it a must see on my list if I ever was there.

Yeah, me too. I hope the Barney Gumble at the end of the bar lets out a few signature belches from time to time.

I was there a few weeks ago. The outdoor ride wasn't finished, but Moe's Tavern was there and Krusty burger and Kwik E Mart etc. The simpsons ride that has been there a while was great craic. It was cool to walk through it but I definitely definitely wouldn't be going to Orlando for it. Harry Potter world is absolutely class though! And the new transformers ride is unbelievable.

Universal is just miles and miles ahead of Disney overall IMO.

Seems far too 3D for my liking!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 471 ✭✭OrgasmicBaz

I was there only two weeks ago, but didnt notice any building around the area... be good craic going into Moe's Tavern and having a Duff :)

Great addition to the park. Some of the rides in Universal Studios are a bit dated, like they have Twister, Men in Black, Terminator and previously Jaws. I reckon they will knock down Men in Black to expand the Simpsons area. The 3D ride is deadly & this will add something new to it.

Going back in June 2014 so hope its opened by then

Did you not see Moe's etc when you went on the 3D ride? was all there two weeks ago.

What's the big fascination with rides in this place? I hate them, waste of time and money.

Can't beat a good ride, and if you're wasting time and money - you're doing it wrong :P

I would die of embarrasment if I was seen at that park. I wish there was a hole I could crawl into and die.

Not been to a theme park for almost 2 decades - though I plan to head to the US to visit a few at some point, would give this place a look for sure when I do head for Universal ;)

Sorry. Gave up on the Simpsons years ago and don't remember a lot of stuff from the good days (which I presume is from where your quote was from).

As explained above, I haven't watched the Simpsons in years and don't remember every episode from the good days. I have seen that one but not in at least 10 years so the quote went over my head.

Would it not be more appropriate to create a Simsons theme park on the former Fukushima daiichi plant in Japan to demonstrate the fact that Nuclear power stations are no laughing matter.
