Beer - Cans or bottles?

When you are in your gaff, someone else's gaff or even 'on the knack' which do you prever, cans or bottles of beer? Why?

I normally hate these kinds of threads that seem almost market research-y or something but I'm genuinely interested to know what people prefer.

I personally prefer cans myself. Partly the 500ml aspect but also easier to handle/dispose of/recycle when spent.

Don't get me wrong though, I do love the craft beers that you can only get in bottles but I do love a tall cold can of beer.

I'd drink beer out of a sweaty sock when I get drinking properly.

So on that basis....... bottle/can/sweaty sock.

I like your can over bottle reasoning though. I sometimes actually do be scarlet at the bottle banks.

Cans or a 500 ml bottle. Never 330ml's because I am a male.

    Then drink more of them?

    Bottle
depends really, if you are drinking a really good beer chances are you will find it won't come in a can

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,693 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

It's easier to piss in the bottles.

    Bottle
Bottles are more convenient but they don't really last long so i prefer cans.

Bottle usually, can get some nice beers in a can, but in general I think a lot of beers can pick up a bit of a tinny flavour in a can, go flatter quicker, get warmer quicker as well. You can get a nicer variety of beer in a bottle too.

Hard to beat an ice cold bottle.

Although Miller, Bud etc. have reduced the capacity from 330ml to 300ml as a new way of fleecing consumers.

That's 2 less bottles per crate but sure anyway...

Beer tastes nicer from a bottle in my opinion. Nothing like a nice cool glass bottle to drink from.

    Bonus points for 500ml bottle.

Cans are handier, so if it's a session they're the choice as I'll be on the cheap stuff.

Most of the nicer beers only come in bottles though. Punk IPA one of the exceptions.

Doesn't really bother me either way.

Well that can depend what % beer you're drinking.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I'd say he'd be drinking 100% beer. Not sure what the alcohol content would be though.

Slightly prefer bottles, you just can't beat a nice cold bottle on a scorching day!

For ease of opening, storage, protection from light etc, can's win, no question.

Sadly very few decent beers are readily available in cans.

Whatever is on a deal or cheap and tastes decent.

Don't have the luxury of choice.

This is what I'm supping on this evening guys.

It's an ale that's fermented in the bottle.

I could nearly put my neck on the block here by saying is probably the nicest beer available to buy. I say this as a self titled beer connoisseur.

OBriens sell it, Tesco too from time to time.

    5.8% so go easy.....

Always preferred my beer chilled in a bottle.

A handy trick I learned recently from one of my mates too is that to open a bottle without an opener, you take another bottle and turn it upside down, place the lip of the cap underneath the lip of the bottle you want to open, flip it using your thumb as the leverage point, and off comes the cap!

Tyskie is one of my favorite beers! Got to love the poles! also, some random info. Tyskie is pronounced "Tishka". like the irish for water, except with a T.

But for now, I'm drinking smithwicks pale ale from a bottle.

Depends. For handiness/cost I'll usually go can. If I'm getting dropped to a door I'll probably go for bottles from one of the German places.

That's a tough one but definately bottles. The reason being is that I find my lip gets cut sometimes on cans if the opener snaps off. Damn sore too :D

Although I'm not a huge fan of beer anyway...
