And the cycle of the same ol' Emmy nominations continue..

.. was sure Jonny Lee Miller would get a nod for 'Elementary'.. disappointing!

On the plus side, hope to see Jason Bateman take away an Emmy for Michael Bluth - was nominated in 05 but didn't win.

Also hope Vera Farmiga wins... she plays "unhinged" very well.

a bit to much modern family and homeland for my likings, thought both shows had poor enough seasons compared to previous ones,

yeah i would have thought Ulrich Thomsen (Banshee, Kai Procter) would have been nominated before some of these, is so by the numbers

Homeland had a better first half to the season than the second half.. which just looks to be going down the "24" route.

Modern Family hasn't made me heartily laugh in a long time.. occassionally smirk but it's so disappointing.

yeah unquestionably, im really expecting season 3 to make up for it, it completely fell to pieces in the last 5-6 episodes, but i somehow thing they may be get distracted with the 24 relaunch next year,

    Just spotted something..

.. Cat Deeley can now say she's "Emmy-nominated"?

    Jesus wept!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

Modern Family's most recent season wasn't that great, I don't really think those nominations are deserved. Except Ty Burrell's, that guy brings it every time he's on screen.

I love that Regular show got a nomination :D but aside from that it's same old same old.

Only one nomination for Parks and Rec is a disgrace, most of the cast couldve been up for a 'Best Supporting' nod.

No arrested, no parks and rec for comedy?? No Maslany (and yet they managed to squeeze in SEVEN actresses in the category.) Directing for glee?! (about the most hilarious thing about the show) Absolute snub for The Americans. Happy for Banks and writing noms for Breaking Bad. They better get it this year! Also, sad for Michelle Fairley although Emilia Clarke got in, don't think she'd win though.

Needs more Parks & Rec, Archer, & Suits. Delighted for House of Cards, baffled about House of Lies, even though I think its not a bad show

On the subject of snubs, I wish The Middle got some attention.

It seems that if you have a great first season and the emmy voters nominate you, you are almost guaranteed to continue to get nominated from then on regardless of the quality of the show: Homeland, Downton Abbey, Modern Family.....

They obviously just voted for Homeland automatically and didn't actually watch season 2 which was awful. Even Morena Baccarin as Jessica Brody got a nom. I am glad to see Mandy Patinken there though, by far the best part of last season.

Disappointed for the Americans, it really deserved some recognition other than Margo Martindale, particularly for Matthew Rhys. I would have preferred to see him or Johnny Lee Miller instead of Hugh Bonneville who did very little in DA this year.

Yay for Christine Baranski, Emilia Clarke and Ty Burrell!

Between Two Ferns and Children's Hospital were all nominated!!

Lack of nomination for Michael Cudlitz invalidates the whole process.

Happy for this, and Burning Love, too! A show which I think people would actually love if they get to watch it. Pretty much all comedy people you can name drop are there. At least the LA-based ones.

+1 no nomination for Southland is a disgrace.

Michelle Dockery is one of the worst actresses on Downton and while I think Hugh bonneville is very good, as was said above he didn't seem to have any challenging storylines this season. And Damien Lewis is fairly poor in Homeland.
Glad to see Jonathon Banks nominated but other than that it's like déjà vu all over again!

Are they not tired of Jim Parsons yet?

Severe lack of Parks & Rec and Parenthood in the mix there...
Parks & Rec is without a doubt the best comedy on television at the moment.
Parenthood is a solid drama and the acting is superb - it's criminally underrated just about everywhere...

As usual no love for Sons of Anarchy and I thought The Americans was a shoe in for best drama, actor, actress and supporting actor

F*ck sake nothing for New Girl and The Mindy Project especially Jake Johnson and Chris Messina

Agree. Shocking Jake Johnson didn't get a nod.
Vincent Kartheiser also shamefully overlooked for best supporting actor. In saying that I hope Jonathon Banks wins.

This is definitely what seems to happen. Then the some voters will hear "Oh blah is meant to be a good show" and will swap it in this year, maybe leaving out a show that's finished up or has been nominated for the last five years successfully just to convince people they can freshen it up.

Lack of "Parks & Recreation" is a disgrace as others have pointed out.
Lack of any nod for "Southland", in particular Cudlidtz, shows that they're going barely bothering to explore beyond their usual nominations.
Nominating "Homeland" but not "The Americans"?

Dont see where they're coming from giving Dinklage a nom in a season where he was totally underwhelming and had only one good scene. Totally overrated actor. Charles Dance and the guy playing Jaime stole every scene they were in.

It is a shame Nikolaj Coster Waldau and Michelle Fairley didn't get any recognition for GOT

Charles Esten from Nashville also deserved a best supporting actor drama nomination as did Monica Potter for best supporting actress drama for Parenthood

    SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA
    Boardwalk Empire • HBO
    Bobby Cannavale as Gyp Rosetti

    Breaking Bad • AMC
    Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut

    Breaking Bad • AMC
    Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman

    Downton Abbey • PBS
    Jim Carter as Mr. Carson

    Game Of Thrones • HBO
    Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister

    Homeland • Showtime
    Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson
This is such a strong category, but Bobby Cannavale was absolutely ridiculous in Boardwalk. Such a hateful character, he played it well.

Echo sentiments above. Of all of the GoT actors, they picked Dinklage and Clarke? dafug?

Also, no Hannibal or Justified? hmm...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭snausages

From supporting actor for me it's between Mandy Patinkin and Bobby Cannavale. Think Gyp will probably take it because it always seems to go to more flamboyant performers over the more subdued, understated ones (like when Aaron Paul undeservedly won over Giancarlo Esposito last year).

Saul Berenson is pretty much the only reason why I'll be tuning into season 3 of Homeland. Great actor.

Agree with this, Nicolaj Coster Waldau would have made more sense, and although I would love for Charles Dance to be in the running, I believe he didn't submit himself so there's really no chance there :(

    http://tvline.com/2013/07/31/cory-monteith-death-emmy-tribute/

Even as a fan of Glee and it was sad to see Cory die so young, why should he get an individual tribute, other actors and actresses have died this year that created some of tv's best characters ever such as Larry Hagman and James Gandolfini and no talk of individual tributes for them, of course include them all in the yearly In Memoriam segment, even play a song he sang in Glee while it airs but no to an individual tribute imo

    Jack Klugman's son upset

In a statement, Emmys executive producer Ken Ehlich defended the decision to
include Monteith: "Every generation of television viewers has its favorites, and
when we decided to expand the 'In Memoriam' segment to remember certain
individuals, we wanted these pieces to be representative as well. To a younger
generation, Cory Monteith's portrayal of Finn Hudson was highly admired, and the
producers felt that he should be included along with the four other individuals
    we have singled out."

Agree with this. Of course I would have loved Cranston to win, but at least he has a few Emmys already.

Having watched both The Newsroom and House of Cards, I'm puzzled as to how Daniels (who's a fine actor, no doubt about that) beat Spacey, who played a much more complex character. No comparison, imo.
I'm also gutted that Jonathan Banks didn't win last night (although, in fairness, I haven't seen the other show).

On a separate note, delighted to see Behind the Candelabra do so well. Douglas's speech was hilarious :D

I really didn't like the extended memoriam thing they did this year, it dragged the ceremony down and focusing on 5 people and cramming others into a montage seemed in poor taste to me.
