Can you only watch what's being displayed on the telly at the time, or can you change the channels?

    Belkin? And it works?!

    from the site
USE YOUR MOBILE DEVICE AS A REMOTE CONTROL
In addition to its other benefits, @TV Plus turns your tablet or smartphone into a remote control for your TV. The Swipe Surf feature lets you scroll through TV channels with ease or record a show with a simple tap of a button.

So if someone was so inclined, they could buy this for someone that has Sky Sports, plug it into their box, and watch said channels?

well said person could also **** with your head and keep changing the channel on you.

Picture the scene, you and the missus having a nice romantic meal in watching the notebook (i.e. you have fallen asleep with your eyes open) and all of a sudden babestation comes on but cause your asleep you don't have the time to explain to the missus what has happened before you've been smacked in the face

Not a bad deal. Unsurprisingly, it only supports an analog signal - i.e. HDMI won't work but if you have a component/composite output or a scart to phono cable from your set top box, you should be ok. - http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/Quig1.JPG - Just make sure that suits before you buy.

Why can't you just use the Sky or other players apps and watch what you want independently and remotely from the box.
I don't see the point in this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Masala

.... ya . can't see the point of this box! If I want to watch Sky sports on the move (I am subscribed) - then I use Sky GO app.

I still need either Free Wifi or unlimited data to see this content from Belkin.

    Am I missing something here??

does the Belkin app allow you to dnla it to a tv where you are?

You do know that not everybody uses SKY? There are other Sat TV services like Freesat, Canal+, Al Jazeera and Cyfrowy Polsat .

App is free on iPad and Android Tablets, but €11.99 on iPhone/iPod and €10.49 on Android phones.

sky go doesnt have every channel though, and I cant connect it up to a tv cos sky go has iphone mirroring blocked. and, sky go will only work with ip addresses in ireland/uk - im heading to italy in a few weeks so i will be able to watch it from there.

oh and because its my sky box(instead of their Sky go stream) i can access my recorded programs as well

I was in the Limerick store and they were right as you walked in on a big stack - ask somebody who works there, they should have them

Couldn't you already do that with their sky go account?

yep, but there's somethings sky go doesnt do

    doesnt work outside uk/ireland
cant airplay to an apple tv
only works for sky (if you have UPC/Soarview there's no app)
    cant view all sky channels
    cant view your personal recordings

I have the @TV connected to my sky box and also my media streamer. so at home i have a network hard drive streaming to a media player, this is connected to @tv which streams it to my phone. so i can access all my stored movies anywhere - deadly for the bus to work!

I have being using a slingplayer for years and it has similar functionality. I would not use it much but it is great when on holidays as you can watch all the Irish channels. If you have an unlimited data package on the iPhone it is brilliant for traveling in Ireland. You can watch your recorded content as well which is a plus. And at that money it is a great device for anyone who travels a lot.

yep, it'll send the picture from your sky box anywhere, even around your local network without affecting your download limit

Picked up one of these and it sets up fine but will not work the remote and the TV guide is UK only. Doesn'y have Ireland as a TV Guide option. Tried putting in a NI postcode for the sky guide and it downloads the TV guide but virtual remote or clicking on tv guide will not change channels!

Hope this is a glitch and something I'm doing wrong and not an issue with the unit!

Sounded too good to be true at €100 off but maybe I'm being a little cynical

yeah, i used the "IR Learn" feature, basically you press the buttons on your sky remote and it learns that command so you can name that button whatever you want

Connected to a sky plus box. Pace sky+ 3100

Went into that setup and it doesn't even have the same remote! seems to be a lot of issues with sky setup according to the belkin support pages.

Just loaded up the iPad app and while its accepting login, it's not connecting via remote server which is why I bought it as I spend a lot of time in Cork and wanted to be able watch my tv from home!

Won't matter anyway if I can't change channels!

@big_moe. Where is the ir learn facility and are there instructions.

How are people finding this? Is it worth it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 781 ✭✭✭CINCLANTFLT

Saw this, went home and looked up the reviews on web... went out and bought one. Set it up in about 5 minutes and now I can watch TV anywhere in the house and also I tested it from work. I plan to get a basic freesat type box that will be dedicated to this. Thus if I am in another room or another country, I can connect in with my iPad and watch TV!!!

    I'd recommend this...

How does it actually work? Do you need to connect the Belkin box to your modem?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 781 ✭✭✭CINCLANTFLT

    Hi,

No need to attach it to the Modem... the connects for me were:
    - VCR SCART interface on my Sat TV Box to the Belkin box using a SCART to Component cable (supplied)
    - Belkin box detected my Wireless network and that connected me to the web etc.

There is also a Ethernet port if you want to go wired...

    Regards

I saw from internet reviews that it runs VERY hot!

For anyone who has this, what is the video quality like outside your own network, over the internet?

I had a slingbox before and on the LAN it was superb but over the internet it was basically un-watchable, as my upload speed was too low, as it tends to be.

i have UPC 100mb fibre broadband - its 10mb upload and video quality with this is pretty good - looks fairly the same whether im on local or outside. but as you said, relies on your own broadband speed. again depends how strong you receiving signal is as well. in work our wifi is grand so it works fine, but when im out & about i need either 4 or 5 bars of 3g signal to watch it properly - ut again depends on your own connection

Cheers for that. I can see you are sorted alright :)

Anyone using it with ADSL with a 1Mb upload?

Sounds like a slingbox. Had one several yrs ago. Great gadget, but alas, never used it after initial setup. Eventually moved it from the man press to adverts.ie.

I have a slingbox and all I have is the basic Eircom package - I don't think I have even 1 Mb upload (the slingbox is connected to the router with an ethernet cable). It works very well - I logged on to a friend's slingbox in London, where they have fibre optic, but I honestly didn't notice a significant difference. I use it in a holiday home in France, and I have used it all over the world. I have the Android app, and find that the quality of the wifi is crucial - great in the holiday home, but it can be ropey in hotels.

My only complaint with the slingbox is that I think it is badly built, and at some stage they just die. When this happened to mine, I went straight out and bought another. Interested to see the Belkin gadget though, that seems to do the same job.

Got one today for €28 in HN Carrickmines, and the sales guy insisted that as I want to use it through the Sky box, I'll be able to watch any channel regardless of what's on the TV. I haven't set it up yet - true or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,278 ✭✭✭banchang

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057229215

Note that you cannot use this with a UPC Horizon box, as it doesn't use IR Infrared to change channels/volume etc - it uses RF Radio Frequency.

The @TV uses an IR dongle which you put in from of your set top box, so as long as your box uses IR this will work for you.

€28 or €38? checked price online and says €38. Or was there an additional discount in-store?
