Best film to cheer you up

Can anyone recommend the best film to cheer you up when you are feeling down?

First thing that popped into my head was something like The Princess Bride, though really, what cheers us up can sometimes be something very esoteric and personal.

Incredibles, Wall-e. I only recently watched Finding Nemo and Despicable Me and they were also very enjoyable.

I would say Up if it wasn't for the first 20 minutes or so which are heartbreaking.

The Big Lebowski is another good one for lifting the mood

I find cheesy action movies work quite well. Comedy movies don't cheer me up at all for some reason.

Actually cheesy action movies are great at cheering me up.

Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, Demolition Man, Tango & Cash, Predator et al

    The Karate Kid.

Every time I put it on I fear that "this will be the time that I that I finally feel that it sucks" (this sucks, man!), but every time I still get a buzz out of it.

Another Bill Murray one that I often forget to put near the top of the list (probably #2 in my list to Groundhog Day):

    Quick Change

Far too serious a film to be considered a cheer-me-up film in an easily-picked-up-and-instantly-enjoyed way I think. :(

It's a very long time since I've seen WMCJ but I don't remember it being an essentially cheer-me-up type film. Unfortunately I can't thank your post due the inclusion of D'unbelievables, despite agreeing enthusiastically with your other three choices. :(
    The Shawshank Redemption
Too harrowing for the uplifting payoff at the end to be considered a cheer-me-up film, purely in the sense that it's such a substantial film rather than a fast-food type comedy which is usually what's needed as a pick-me-up.
    E.T.
A wonderful film, but with too many sad themes in it to be considered overall a cheer-me-up film, even though I do agree overall that it's an uplifting film.

OFOTCN is a masterpiece, but again there are themes of tragedy, cruelty, and despair, as well as friendship and loyalty which are uplifting. Too serious a film to be a cheer-me-up. Can't thank your post because of this, even though I 100% agree with Groundhog Day and Smokey and the Bandit, and to a large extent Forrest Gump, although it too contains some very sad themes.

'Almost Famous' - That film never fails to cheer me up and warm my bones, especially the Tiny Dancer montage.

'Old School' - So many scenes and one-liners in this movie that can temporarily take the mind off gloom, notably the scene at Frank's wedding...
I fúcking need you more than ever!
    - I almost had to be stretchered out of the cinema when I first heard that unusual take on a classic pop song, it cut me in half!

It's offbeat, not following many of the usual patterns of mainstream comedies. Tom Waits is in it.

    Hope you like it.

Yes it was a glaring oversight! Stir Crazy is brilliant. Gene Wilder is brilliantly naive and manic in it.

I'll add Another You (Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder together again for the last time) The Woman In Red, The Producers, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask, Young Frankenstein, The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother, and Haunted Honeymoon for completeness.

See no Evil Hear No Evil was mentioned already.

    The Jerk

The new phonebook's here! The new phonebook's here!

"Johnson, Navin R." I'm somebody now! Millions of people look at this book every day!
This is the kind of spontaneous publicity that makes people! I'm in print!
Things are going to start happening to me now...

    "Johnson, Navin R."
    Sounds like a typical bastard.

It's a Wonderful Life and Trading Places. They're a bit Christmassy but I like them.
Last Christmas, for the "Winterval" Christmas festival, the Bowery Bar in Waterford opened up their nightclub area and converted it into a cinema lounge where they showed It's a Wonderful Life every evening, for free. You could sit in leather chairs and have a beer or a mulled wine during the showing.

I try to only watch it at most once a year, to keep from ever becoming jaded with it. When I discovered to my consternation that my girlfriend had never seen it ever in her whole life, I told her how lucky she was that she would get to see this for the first time, on the big screen, and at Christmas time.

As usual, I was choking up and doing my best to hold back the tears of happiness at the end. Looking about the place, I could see I was not the only man doing the same. Looking to my girlfriend for her reaction, I saw only indifference. Asking her whether she didn't love it now having seen it, she could only say that it was "alright" in an infuriatingly ambivalent and non-committal way.

To me, it's a film that anyone and everyone should love unquestioningly, and I would not be able to understand the kind of person who wouldn't feel uplifted by it. I found her luke-warm reaction to it even more difficult to understand. It's a serious black mark against her, and as mad as it may sound to some, I'm not joking when I say it's one of those little indications that makes me wonder whether we have a long-term future together.
