Interested to see a poll on this. I know there are a few variations in these shots, but want to keep it relatively simple.
Have added multi-choice in case there is a couple of nightmare shots.

My bad one is a pull/hook type of shot ... coming over the top sometimes, need to flaten my swing a little.

How about the dreaded shank, probably needs to be added to the list as I'm quite partial to hitting them. A shank OOB or into cabbage followed by a snap hook does wonders for your confidence early in a round.

Slice off the tee kills me. I'm fine with irons and to a certain extent hybrids but once I move up to the bigger boys it's like a Brennans bread factory, slice city

It is. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who suffers consistently with a particular shot type.
Also people will be able to give advice as to how they solved these issues

I used to have a wicked slice ...
what fixed it for me, and am now consistantly drawing the ball is.

    strengthened my grip.
not such a steep backswing, lay it off abit at the top.
and half swing (which is still a full swing but just doesn't feel like it).

Slice with driver for me, I'd say 50% of them were sliced, iron shots OK, and even woods off the tee only about 10% slice, so for the moment I'm leaving driver at home.

I'm sure all of us can hit every one of these shots, regardless if we're off 6 or 26. The idea of the poll was not to state that though, it was to get an understanding of the one (or two) bad shots that the boards.ie folk have.
I know in general, the slice is the biggest bad shot for amateurs overall, I wanted to see how that compared with everyone here. It was also setup, as said by one poster above, to maybe give advice on how to cure these bad shots.

Like I said, I used to be a wicked slicer of the ball and it's completely gone from my game now and I have a nice draw. That change alone for me has made me enjoy the game 10 times more than it did, so if I can give a tip or two for other slicers, I'd be delighted.

Now, here's a tip for you.

To get into a thread, you have to click on it.
To not read anything in the thread, you basically don't click on it.
So, in a nutshell, if you don't like what's posted here, or can't offer any advice, just wait till the next thread that takes your fancy.

when i read this first i though of chips, the food!!

I have a few bad shots in the bag but the worst happens out of the blue and is blading a wedge just off the green. Have sent the ball over the far side of the green too many times now. Might only happen once a round but is always in the back of my mind.

Used to have an awful slice with driver but that went with a bit of practice and new driver shaft.

I used to blade 2/3 chips a round, but I have started putting my weight forward to help get under the ball, and also using the "hinge and hold" method has improved my chips immensely, if I could just get a little zip on them now I would be happy.

I have a block slice that I manufactured when I was hooking :( The ball can end up in the right rough of a parallel fairway ha ha 300 yards and 100 yards right . Whats so special about the shot its always bang out of the middle of my club

Used to have a slice when I was younger. I've pretty much got on top of it and am able to control it. To this day, when I hit a nasty shot, it's generally a nasty slice. And then I have to be careful not to hit a nasty hook right after it as I try to correct it!

I'd gotten a few lessons over the years, and none of them had helped. All the pros had given different types of advice, taking the club away on a different line, starting my downswing on a different line, and so on.

What fixed it was one particular lesson. It was in Carton House (can't remember the pros name). He just took a look at my swing and told me that I was working too hard to correct it, and that was making it worse. He said to just simplify it completely. Balls slice (or hook) due to spin. If I could just simplify my swing so that I took the club head straight back, and hit straight through the ball, that should elminate almost all of the spin. And it did.

It was the simplest piece of advice/lesson I ever got, and it was easily the best.

Having said all this, it is sometimes handy to have a natural shape to your shot in certain situations. And I'm able to pretty easily cut the ball still if needed.

It used to be the dreaded sod as I call it. A.k.a the chilli-dip, the duffed chip. When you are chipping/pitching and you get that soft contact and a little baby sod of grass moves about 2 feet ahead of where you (cough) strike the ball. Ball doesn't go much further than the sod.

Toss up now between the duck-hook, the block to the right, the thinned wedge over the back of the green, the fat approach... I could go on.

Mine is the thin/fat shot with the irons, having a horrid time at the moment, one day its nothing but hitting it fat, next day nothing but thin, then a shank will come out of nowhere and my round will disappear into a blur of bad shots.
Really need to get some practice with the iron striking but summer is my busy time and the only time I get to play is in comps.

sounds a bit like a sway or reverse pivot.
try a few half shots with your feet no more then 8 inches apart.
if this is hard then that's your problem.

but before that, check your ball position, if it's to far back you will have to go looking for it on the down swing...

Is this wrong, I was always trying to get this at impact, ie driving through the ball with your hands leading, I do sometimes get the topped shot but not often!
