Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Katyn Wood Massacres

    Hi all,

    Can anyone recommend a book which would give details of the Katyn Wood massacres during WW 2. Ideally dealing with the round up of the Polish leadership, imprisonment and execution, subsequent discovery of the bodies by the Nazis during the invasion of Russia and the eventual admission of responsibility by the Soviets.

    There was a fairly powerful film produced in Poland a few years back.

    According to the Wiki entry its based on Post mortem. Katyn by Andrzej Mularczyk but I don't know if its available in English.

    Film is worth a watch though.

    Offhand in the book "Bloodlands" by Tim Synder, dealing with that era, it is mentioned.

    Do not forget the wider Katyn massacre based on the same order from Stalin. 22,500 Poles died. The Ukrainian Katyn list includes my grandfather. See

    I went to school with a Polish boy who was said to have lost two uncles at Katyn. His mother's two older brothers were both doctors in Kracow.

    They were never identified in the mass graves, but had been taken away a couple of weeks before and were not heard of again.
