What an amazing outcome for these two Nigerian teams.......
Four clubs involved in two play-off matches that ended 79-0 and 67-0 respectively - a total of 146 goals - have been suspended in Nigeria.

Plateau United Feeders were 79-0 victors over Akurba FC while Police Machine FC demolished Bubayaro FC 67-0.

"It is unacceptable - a scandal of huge proportions," said Muke Umeh, chairman of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Organising Committee.

"The teams are suspended indefinitely, pending further sanctions."Plateau United Feeders and Police Machine went into the matches level on points, with promotion to the lowest tier of the Nationwide League Division at stake.

Feeders scored 72 of their goals in the second half, while Police Machine reportedly scored 61 times after the break in their game. The results meant that Plateau edged above Police Machine on goal difference.

Umeh added: "We will investigate this matter thoroughly and get to the bottom of it."The NFF's director of competitions, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, gave assurances that the Organising Committee would hand out severe sanctions on all persons and institutions indicted by the investigation."The teams involved, their players and officials, match officials, coordinator and anyone found to have played some role in this despicable matter would be severely dealt with," Sanusi said.

This is a non-story, typical racist bullcrap. Lots of football matches end 79-0 but just because it's a Nigerian team it makes the news.

I'm sick of this racist crap.

This is hardly new, wasn't there something in the news before about a 4-19 score in Nigeria?

    4-19 is some what plausible.

    However.

Feeders scored 72 of their goals in the second half, while Police Machine reportedly scored 61 times after the break in their game.

not bad going. considering there's normally 45 mins per half :D

The betting syndicate were sickened when they realised they had actually backed over 80 goals in both matches...

I wonder were the Nigerians equally flabbergasted when they heard the Republic of Ireland's results at Euro 2012?

I'm sure whoever is hurling the racist accusations is doing it tongue in cheek. If not, they are extremely sad people

Questioning people's claims of racism can itself be racist.

Hello and welcome to this charity fixture,

Police Machine FC v Super Eagles XI

Can the otherwise incorruptible force of the machine prevail or will the eagles soar

I would if he said he scored seventy odd goals in 45 minutes and it wasn't a fix.

I'd love to see highlights of it just to see what the other team and their goalie was doing as 72 goals sail by in the second half. Were they on the pitch at all I wonder.

How on earth could you even score 79 goals in 90min ?
I mean unless they literally passed the ball from the kick-off back to the opposition and kicked directly from the halfway line and scored every time ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,075 ✭✭✭Wattle

I bet if Fernando Torres was playing he wouldn't have scored.

Yes - Mayo only managed 1-12. Hardly an upset, though?

I'm assuming that, since both winning teams went into the games level on points, that it was goal difference that would decide who would get promoted.

Both teams must have had knowledge of how the other match was going. The two loosing teams were willing to concede as many goals as was necessary to ensure the team they were playing would be promoted (might have been something nice in it for them too I guess).

Things just got out of hand in the second half as both matches kept getting higher and higher scores....................:D

As some background info on Nigerians and how serious they take football.

In 1967, the two factions involved in the Nigerian Civil War agreed to a forty-eight hour ceasefire so that they could watch Pelé play an exhibition game in Lagos.

wasn't it 79 goal in the second half , which is like a goal every 30 sec or so with about 2.5 seconds to get the ball back to center for kick off.

Must be a bunch of fast b@st@rds ,

seriously how could anyone think this was a good plan, agreeing on the score line , at what what point did they think it would be excessive and then just keep on going.

the more I think about it the funnier it gets .

More like 2.5 seconds to score and 30 seconds to get a restart. At some point the must have just been kicking it from the center circle. Also, the refs apparently were in on it and added ****loads of extra time.

    Embarrassing.
