How's my diet?

I've been making an effort to live a more healthy lifestyle recently and during the process I've been trying to read up on nutrition.
I came across some articles on the negative effects of eating too much protein and too little carbohydrates so I was hoping someone who knows a little more could have a quick scan of my diet and let me know!

What I've eaten today for example:

    Breakfast -
A half cup of porridge oats with water and a tablespoon of honey and a dash of milk.

    Snack -
    About 4/5 cashews

    Lunch -
Half a can of chickpeas with some diced red onion, cucumber, red pepper, small bit of feta, balsamic vinegar dressing.

    Mid afternoon snack -
2 egg omelette with mushrooms, a handful of spinach, cherry tomatoes, pesto, tiny bit of feta.

    Dinner -
A chicken breast with a handful of spinach, some mushroom, cherry tomatoes and half a red onion. (pan-fried in a tablespoon of olive oil)

If I'm hungry later I'd probably have a cracker or two with some tomato on it or a banana.

I should also add that I'm trying to shed a couple of pounds and doing a bit of exercise during the week too, but my main concern is not getting the right nutrients.
I feel nice and full anyway!

    Thanks in advance!

  • It's pretty good, probably a few more carb-based foods than I'd recommend usually, but you're ticking a lot of boxes.

When you say handful of spinach I hope you mean handful when its cooked? Never skimp on the green stuff. Always add enough vegetables to make your plate greener than it is white. If to do that you've to over-fill the plate, then consider removing some white! (rices/potatoes / pasta/breads).

Maybe try get some fish in there too, would you consider Tinned Mackerel instead of the chickpeas at lunch time? Up that Feta intake, great stuff, and fill that salad high!

Haha! and here I was worried that I possibly wasn't eating enough carbs. :D

I generally avoid bread/rice/potatoes/pasta full stop and just have my veggies with my protein (fish or chicken usually).
Sometimes I'll have noodles with it but lately I'm just sticking with my pile of veggies on the side.

I'd love to eat more Feta but the saturated fat content was brought to my attention so I've been using it less liberally since. I still fit enough into my omelettes/salads though. :D

I'll definitely try incorporate more fish and green in there though. Thanks for the feedback!
