Neck Strain

Hello all. I've been doing crunches for about a year now on and off. I've also started lifting weights. (Specifically dumbells.) I'm having one issue however, my neck hurts when I do the crunches and it also occurs less frequently when I'm lifting weights. They aren't very heavy, so I doubt I'm lifting too much.

I've looked online, and I can't seem to find any help. Practically all of the internet is telling me that I'm using my hands to push my head up instead of lifting my abdomen. I don't think that's the case either though, since I keep my arms on my chest and I try to engage the abs while keeping the neck stationary.

I've noticed that my neck inadvertently seizes up when I do these exercises. I'm unable to stop it unless I stop the exercise completely. Obviously, that's not a solution. Does anybody have an idea as to what this is or how to remedy it? Thanks.

Trainer. Even for one session. You need to be shown how to to them properly. And somebody to correct your technique. Any exercise done incorrectly can injure, especially if its repeated over an extended period.
