Exercising like a child again

I've recently been clearing out a lot of old junk from the storage cupboard, came across lots of childhood 'toys' like skipping ropes, roller blades etc. I decided not to toss these as they are actually fun to use. I also came across a hula hoop, not a weighted one but a children's one and it has re-kindled my love for hooping:D

My question is roughly how many calories does this type of exercise burn? I've checked the internet and it has come back with 7 calories per minute? could this be accurate? and if not how many would you reckon roughly? Also would a weighted one be better to use? Appreciate any input on this:)

There's no way for anyone to accurately guess.

We've no idea of your weight, the level of fitness you are currently at or the intensity you would do these activities at.

If you really want to know how many calories you are burning then get yourself a heart rate monitor.

Impossible question to answer. 7 cals per minute would be far too high though

I was just about to edit my post there, I'm 112lbs 5 foot 2/3 and would consider myself quite fit. I do intend on investing in a heart rate monitor what would you even class this exercise as, aerobics? I'm just trying to get an idea here :D

    Yeh it would be aerobics.

    What's your goal?

I thought that myself, especially since it's an un-weighted hula hoop, it's the only result I have found though regarding Hula Hooping.

Weighted hoops actually take less effort to keep going due to momentum then unweighted. Its why they use them in classes as most people will be able to keep them spinning easier then a dance hoop.

I'm just doing it for fun on top of my regular routine of just trying to keep all round fit and healthy. I really enjoyed hula hooping when I was younger and I'm enjoying it now, I was just wondering the calories burned during this type of exercise, I tracked it as aerobics general on MFP but that is telling me its burning 171 calories per half hour could this be close enough? I will need to get myself a monitor to track things like this :o

If you're just trying to get fit then I don't see why you need to know how many calories it burns.

See how long you can do it without being totally out of breath and then the next day try to beat that time.

Not really sure how knowing how many calories you burn would help (unless you were to aim to burn less calories than the previous time).

I just wanted to know as to how many calories on top of what I usually do purely for keeping track of everything, I can do it for an hour non stop, wouldn't have me too out of breath, I'd break a little sweat though. Thanks for your help, I will get myself a heart rate monitor and work from there I guess :)
