Is the western world really this racist?

This is not new news but it just got me thinking

The US is responsible for the death of around 800 innocent civilians of which around 200 were children from drone strikes in Pakistan Yemen and Somalia since 2004.

Bush and Obama use the excuse that we are protecting our citizens from terrorist attacks.

Going by that logic the UK could have sent drone strikes to Ireland to kill IRA members and if it resulted in hundreds of innocent civilians and children being killed then so be it. (I realise there were atrocities like bloody sunday but nothing to this extent)

Can you imagine these pictures being Irish kids as a result of a UK drone strike WARNING GRAPHIC PICTURES

    d2.png
    d3.png

Why are we not as shocked when they are Pakistani children?
Why is there not the same uproar as there would be if it were children from the western world?
Are we all just that racist?

IF they were our children, I seriously doubt the Pakistanis would be shocked and start an uproar.

We don't know too much about them so we kind of numb ourselves to what happens there, if it was closer to home with closer links to us, there would be more reactions.

Our lack of knowledge about civilian deaths from drone strikes has nothing to do with racism.

Sure look at the Boston bombings and the amount of media coverage that that got. Bear in mind that, what 3 died?

Compare that to much worse incidents that occur 'regular' in places like packastan like you said. Where 10's or hunderds or people might die.

We don't here about incidents in these places. They bearly make the news.
Where as with the Boston bombing it was all over the internet in mins and plastered over the news for weeks

The pictures are appalling and I can't believe I looked, you are obviously trolling and I hope the ban you get is appropriate.

Good man Joe, we should all stick our heads in the sand and pretend its not happening.

Oh yeah, and ban any threads and posters that dares to discuss it!

That's because we share a common language and culture with the US. We also don't hear about the Chinese government displacing millions of Tibetans from their homes and replacing them with Han Chinese.

The Internet allows us greater exposure to such stories.

It's also worth noting that it is a common tactic for high value targets, to hide or mix among innocent civilians.

    We wouldn't allow drone strikes

Pakistan does (although they are careful to decry them publicly and politically)

I am far far far from a supporter of American Foreign Policy. But innocent lives are lost in war.

How many innocents died on 9/11 for example? I don't believe that America willfully targets civilians but if Governments make a decision to harbor international terrorists then America will feel justified in taking action on foreign soil. Unfortunately the tactics used by terrorist organisations means that there is always a (strong) chance of civilian casualties, which is always a tragedy.

    It's a bull**** war though.

US and UK attacking and killing those people only increase their hatred towards US and UK which in turn leads to more people becoming terrorists. It's pretty clear which is why the "War on Terror" has been going on for more than 10yrs and it has only made things worse than any better.

Pakistan cooperated with USA before and handed over 1000s of "suspected terrorists" to America who all ended up being tortured in Guantanamo. Turned out overwhelming majority of those "suspected terrorists" were absolutely innocent and were needlessly tortured. Hence Pakistan stopped handing over its citizens to America to be tortured. Even then Pakistan is still cooperating with America in that it underplays the number of drone strikes conducted by America on Pakistani villages and also the number of civilians who die in these strikes.

Saying "but the terrorists use innocent civilians as cover" is an extremely weak and stupid justification to carry on drone strikes on civilians.

Why would I expect a GIF of a dog licking a screen in a thread about racism ?

Photographs of dead children are also completely out of context.

Mate continue to try to be as condescending as you can but until tonight I have never seen dead children on my phone, if you're ok with that then good luck to you but it was not necessary for the op to post those pictures to make his argument.

It's obvious he came across the pictures and then made an argument to somehow support them looking for kudos and I have fallen into the trap of being outraged which is why he posted the photos in the first place.

After reading that line, what exactly were you expecting to see when clicking the link? Especially when the OP was talking about children being killed by drone strikes.

Regarding the question in the title, racist wouldn't be the word to use imo. For most people it's more a lack of awareness as to what's really going on I suppose. Much like the growing death toll in Iraq, people become desensitised because it's not out of the ordinary anymore, for us anyway.
