Does anyone now how this is going to work yet? At the moment we get ESPN free but from the little I read ESPN is going at the end of July. BT have the rights to most of what ESPN had and Setanta have the rights to all the BT stuff in Ireland. Setanta sports is around €15 quid a month I think although we get Setanta Ireland free.

So are we going to get charged more for pretty much the same content we had last year?

Just to let you know that we have announced our pricing for the Setanta Pack, which includes exclusive rights to show all the live UFC events from August 2013 until August 2016!

A lot of you have been asking about price changes given that we have added in 3 new channels of great content. You would be forgiven for thinking that because we are adding in 38 extra Premier League games, 25 FA Cup games, the SPL, Bundesliga, the Aviva Premiership, UFC and lots more that we would be putting up the price considerably. But we’re not. In fact we are giving all customers the chance to reduce their price! Take the annual offer of €199 per season and it works out at just €16.58 a month. That’s cheaper per month than we currently charge! Given that we have 71 Premier League games including 18 Top Picks, more than ever Setanta is a subscription for the full season so this deal may suit you best. Of course you may want pay monthly. In that case the price will be €19.99 per month. Today we sent out letters to all our customers confirming these great new prices.

More information on the Setanta Pack can be found here

    Thanks,

    Setanta

The above doesn't apply to UPC customers, only Sky.

According to Setanta Sports there is no deal done with UPC yet. See the post in MMA Forum

UPC will have to be careful with this one, for those on digital select/max the fact that one got setanta ireland and espn as part of the package always put it above the basic sky package, for some it was more than enough sport, however if espn and setanta ireland are pulled from select and max forcing one to subscribe to the entire setanta package, it would be a gamechanger, especially for the upc mds customers (if you are on mds it is assumed you can't get phone or broadband from UPC) as the upc packages V sky would be way overpriced in terms of channels and choice.

    On UPC:

Value Pack - Setanta Ireland / Setanta HD

Value / Select Extra / Max Pack - Setanta Ireland / Setanta HD, ESPN / ESPN HD, ESPN America / ESPN America HD

This is where I am really. Paying €20 a month extra and all that you get extra is for a few 3pm Saturday games is not an option. Without the ESPN package coming free I don’t think I'd stay with UPC, I'd probably go Freesat

I stand corrected on setanta ireland being on the value pack.

However if you are an MDS subscriber with select and max you only get ESPN and Setanta Ireland you do not get the HD options nor ESPN America although you do save €1 a month over being a cable subscriber.

You right i was an mds subsciber and last august ditched the lot for combined saorview and freesat! My dad is thinking the same and waiting to see what happens no setanta and french top 14 rugby and ESPN with aviva Premiership why stay a subscriber unless the basic prices of the packages come down if setanta/ESpn are removed.

Anyway most UPC Customers are getting €5 off every month so up till now digital select with the discount is €28.50. Losing the sports option how much would people be willing to pay?

Are happy with your decision to go freesat mate?

So far so good nearly a year now, far better product compared to my previous UPC MDS. It has nearly paid for itself in one year. My sub used to be €28.50 plus €6 multiroom and €3.75 non dd fee which was €38.25 a month or €459 a year.

Agree with all of the above, have made the point in the Horizon thread that the only thing keeping me with UPC for tele is their nice selection of premium sports, in HD at that, included in the normal subscription plus €5 (vs €15 on sky). Lose this and I'm gone.

What they offered was sufficient for me to give up sky sports about 3 years ago, saving myself just short of €1,000 in the process

in addition with UPC, setanta 1 was an extra €16. We never got any of the discounts that a setanta subscriber on the sky platform got.

There were colleagues of mine getting both setanta ireland a 1 for €6 a month when subscribing with setanta directly.

Initially, Setanta was well worth it. But then the prices creeped up, they lost most of the rugby, they ditched Setanta Sports 2, and Setanta Ireland was offered for free on several packages. Hard to justify the fee in that case. For me, a lot depends on what happens with rugby - and in particular - Heineken Cup rights.

At the end of the day though, it's going to be a pain if I end up paying for several Sky Sports channels and several more BT/Setanta channels, just to get a few events which could probably be contained in just one channel.

We've quite the long running thread on this here and I'd suggest the conversation continue there.
