Kurt Cobain, Gary Speed and Princess Diana probably would be mine. I can still see the breaking news on Sky in the early hours covering the death of Diana, it all seemed a bit surreal.

And although she led a drug fused lifestyle Amy Winehouse stands out too.

Chris benoit, wwe pro wrestler. Killed his wife and child and then himself. Couldn't believe it.

James gandolfini seemed very close to home too for some reason.

Dimebag Darrell abbot from pantera, shot dead on stage is another.

Gary speed was a shocker alright because he was on telly earlier that day and everybody that worked with him said he was happy and making plans. Suicide is a terrible thing!!

After that Gerry Ryan . I was listening to him day before , still can't believe he's dead, so sad .

    Biggie :(
Thought both of these would be amongst the least shocking. If Daniel O Donnell was killed in a drive by shooting I'd be shocked. Look up tupac on wiki and there's a big list about various shooting incidents.

David Attenborough and Sir Alex Ferguson when it finally happens

Have to say Welsh Footballer/Manager Gary Speed was quite a shock.

I think Heath Ledger was pretty shocking given he didn't seem to lead all that crazy a lifestyle, seemed fairly well-adjusted and was establishing himself as a pretty great actor. Sad to see that potential snuffed out.

I know many say Amy Winehouse wasn't surprising, but for some reason I felt like she'd make it rather than have a clichéd rock star's death. Another case of a wasted talent.

James Gandolfini's death has really shocked and upset me more than most though. Even just through the character of Tony Soprano he made such a huge impact and really made that show what it was, and it was and remains my favourite TV show.

Only in Ireland would you have people saying they will be shocked at the death of people that haven't died yet.:(

Princess Diana. Could not believe the news headlines. Can recall going out for lunch that Sunday, the waiting staff were in tears just like ourselves. Indeed we could not eat our lunch as we were just too upset. Although I never met the lady I always felt as if I knew her as we were of the same age group.

Gerry Ryan was another shocker, again I never met the man however he kept me company from time to time when I was travelling . His open style, mentioning his wife and family gave a great insight to the man. Calling a spade a spade was definitely his strong point. He was certainly one of Ireland's greatest broadcasters

John Lennon, remember it well. I only just bought the Double White album and had a pair of his style specs.

    Elvis and Diane were next.

Yep, doubt anybody will have seen that coming, I mean I've seen all the news about his failing health, but still he's only a whipper snapper of 94
    David Attenborough
87, it would be shocking if he was cut down in his prime too.

The idea of being moved by the death of a "celebrity" whom I don't know is baffling on every conceivable level.

What are people lacking in their own lives that they need such a truly bizarre publc emotional outlet for personal feelings?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 827 ✭✭✭WumBuster

None really. People die all time, just because they were celebrities dosent make it any more shocking.

Michael Jackson. It still saddens me that I never got to see him live in concert :(
