Dumbbell flys causing shoulders to crack

    Does anybody else experience this?

When I do flys - flat, incline or cable - my shoulders crack right as my hands get closer together, near the end of the movement.

I've tried using lighter weights, going slower and adjusting my form pretty much any way I can think of, but it keeps happening.

It's not painful or anything, just a little uncomfortable, and there doesn't appear to be any lasting effect - not yet anyway. It seems odd but I'd compare the feeling to cracking my knuckles in a way.

So what do you think? Is it something I should be worried about?

If it's consistently happening and produces even minor discomfort it would be worth meeting with a sports physio and getting them to take a look imo.

    I hate supplements BUT

I found taking a load of fish oil helped me with this problem, about 3-4 times the RDA for a few weeks. Fish oil is food so its not that bad.

When I say discomfort, I should stress that its pretty mild, but yeah, it's never a bad idea to run it past a physio.

I spoke to one of the trainers in my gym just now and he said he actually gets something similar in one of his shoulders after he's had a break from lifting weights. He says with him it's a build up of air (around the joint I think, if that makes sense), then a pop to release near the end of the movement. Similar to cracking knuckles like I said, he doesn't worry about it and it goes away once he's been back training for a bit.

Fish oil could be an idea, I don't eat fish at all, so it's safe to say I don't get enough of that!

I've had similar and it hasn't been an issue at all. Mind you, they only make noise - there's no discomfort in it.
