Dress code at Curragh on Derby Day

Hey folks. I posted this in the fashion forum but it seems a bit quiet over there so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I'm heading to the Curragh on Saturday and am wondering would I be over dressed in a suit? I've only been racing in Galway before and generally people get pretty dressed up there; is it the same in the Curragh?

Celtic jersey, tracksuit bottoms, Nike air max and a cap.
If you want to go all out to impress the ladies then I suggest some form of jewellery.

If the above is too fancy then I'd suggest suit trousers and a shirt. Weather is meant to be nice all weekend.

Thanks. So I'll take it that'd I'd look like a spanner if I wore a suit?

There's surprisingly little discussion about this on line.

You won't look like a spanner in a suit - lots of once-a-year racegoers (particularly Dubs) wear suits.

The track suit bottoms and t-shirt (or jersey) brigade are generally the Northern Irish lads who come every year for a big piss-up.

Just in case anyone is interested, it's going to be wall-to-wall Hector this year. Here is the "entertainment" for the day.

Suit is what you need, the majority of racegoers to flat race meeting where suits (not just the once a year racegoers like Byron said). Its a different kettle of fish if it was a NH meeting then u would be overdressed, so stick to the suit evil g and have a good one

Definitely a suit for Derby day. You'd stand out majorly (for all the wrong reasons) if you wore trakkies.

Maybe not a full on suit? Incase your to over the top...I'd go with slacks... Maybe grey slacks and a white shirt would be dressy and you won't be out of place if its more toned down the suits and if it is a suit type occasion you will fit it perfectly :) hope this helps. x

I wear my pinstripe Aldi suit to all race meetings. And no this is not a joke. I love you Aldi.

Pink shirt, blue tie, blue trainers with pink laces and a wee bit of red in them, they wont even notice your not wearing pants, oooo wait yellow hot pants,

    perfect.

This is not my experience, I was at Down Royal last friday evening (NH meeting) and there was just as many suits being wore as I've seen at a flat meeting, I personally dress depending on the weather.

Suit, tie, cufflinks. If it is VERY warm, you can leave the jacket off. The Curragh is a dressy place anyway. It is worth making the effort. Even the stable staff get their best clobber on. Have a great day. It's not all about the horses.

Haha! It's about companionship, craic with mates, food drink and a few flutters! Is that better? Personally, I love looking at the style. I love to see young ones tottering around on heels, forgetting that I was young once!
