I have researched for hours, looking up what would get me the best bang for buck. I feel as if this configuration is the best I can do for the money I am willing
    to spend

    Cpu: Intel 3570K
Gpu: Sapphire amd hd radeon 7770 1gb GDDR5
    Mobo: Asrock H77 Pro 4
    Monitor: Asus 19" (basic)
    Memory: 2x4gb G Skill Sniper 1866mhz
    Psu: Corsair GS600
    Case: Zalman Z11 plus

I already have a good mouse and keyboard from my old computer so I won't be needing those. If you have any suggestions on better parts for around the same price feel free to let me know. I will be using this to play Gta 4, Skyrim, Minecraft, Feed The Beast, Far Cry 3 and 2. Thanks :)

If this is a gaming build and your on a budget you need to spend less on the CPU and more on the graphics card. Whats your budget?

Something like this would have a lot more gaming power and would look a lot better on the superior 22" ips panel.

    LG 22EA53VQ-P|€127.81
AMD FX-6300 Prozessor, Boxed, Sockel AM3+|€102.99
    8GB-Kit G.Skill RipJaws-X PC3-12800U CL9|€59.34
    PowerColor PCS+ HD7870 Myst. Edition 2GB GDDR5(UEFI READY)|€193.57
be quiet! SYSTEM POWER 7 500W|€53.83
    BitFenix Merc Alpha|€32.06
    2 x ARCTIC COOLING ARCTIC F12|€6.32

I'm on a budget of €650. Well yeah it's a gaming pc but an 'entry level' one. I didn't want to get a different cpu as the amd processors run hotter and from what I researched, don't last as long as an Intel cpu. I am not partial to Intel cpu's I just thought it would be the longer lasting choice

Wow, that is brilliant! What games could a build like this run?

Should have no problem running anything that's out right now and for some time to come in the future with a mixture of medium and high settings.

While the intel CPU in your first post is better than the AMD the graphics card bloodbath picked is much better. Overall the build with a cheaper CPU and more expensive GPU will run games at much higher frame rates.

But how does the amd cpu run heat wise and does it perform well at everyday computer tasks?

It runs a bitter hotter than the intel but not so hot that it would cause any kind of problem. For everyday tasks you are unlikely to notice any difference from the intel CPU.

Would this build be a lot better then the one I have?

Yes it's better if the main use is gaming. As i said the cpu will be a little slower for games than the intel but the gpu will be much much better than the one you picked making bloodbaths build perform better in games overall.

What if I got the fx-8350 and got a gpu for around 120? Like this http://www.hardwareversand.de/1024+MB/76770/MSI+R7790-1GD5+OC%2C+1024MB+DDR5%2C+PCI-Express.article

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

That would still have worse gaming performance than bloodbaths build, for a gaming build generally you want to spend more on the graphics card than on the CPU as this will give you best results

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭TheFlidKid

I know but I am trying to find a balance between multitasking and gaming. I know its obvious that I have a lot to learn about this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭TheFlidKid

I swapped a few things from bloodbaths build, instead of a fx 6300 I will use a fx 8320, I just got a cheaper monitor and I forgot to add that my budget doesn't include the shipping rate of €18.99. Does this sound good?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

Yes the fx 8320 is good. better value for money than the fx 8350, I wouldn't go too cheap on the monitor though. No point in getting a good graphics card to display it on a bad monitor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭TheFlidKid

this is the one I am thinking of getting http://www.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=71690&agid=1648 the whole ips thing that made the last monitor more expensive didn't really appeal to me as being worth that bit extra

Its the best display type and will make a whole world of difference !

The headaches that get induced whenever I have to use the horrible TN on my laptop are testament to that.

Like an SSD id almost sacrifice pure CPU or GPU performance as a decent IPS monitor will make your whole experience much more enjoyable.

I'll take your word on that one then :) do you know if a 26cm gpu will fit in a zalman z11 case?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

Google says that case will fit a gpu up to 29 cm long.

I'm not trying to be smart or anything but what is the real difference between ips an tn monitors?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭TheFlidKid

I could not find that after looking for a good 40 minutes, haha thanks

Better viewing angles and colour reproduction think Macbook vs standard windows based laptop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭TheFlidKid

well I am taking your word on it and reducing the money I'm spending on my gpu to get a better monitor

Not quite as powerful as the card blood suggested but once overclocked will perform just as well if not better.
Perfect for 1080p gaming though at high-ultra settings with AA off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Why are you reducing the cpu and / or monitor? The 6300 cpu is a 3 core / 6 thread cpu. Games aren't even using that many threads yet so it has room to improve and multi tasking is definitely not a problem. You will see 0 increase in gaming performance from a 6300 to an 8320 atm.

The card I linked is a lot better than that 7850 which is only 1gb. You want a 2gb card for 1080p. It also has nearly 50% more stream processors and compute units. At the same clock speeds it should outperform the 7850 by quite a bit.

IPS panels have better color reproduction and better viewing angles than TN panels.

    IPS vs TN

    Isn't it exactly 25% more stream processors? 1024 - 1280 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

That's a normal 7870. The one I listed is the tahiti edition which has 1536.

I see, I just read the specs from hardwareversand.de, they must have made a mistake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭TheFlidKid

I am trying to get a good balance between everyday performance and gaming, I'm not looking to play the latest games on the best settings, I can settle for medium settings. All I care about while gaming is if it's playable

Everyday performance? You do realise standard pc use takes practically no cpu power at all. A 6300 is more than powerful enough for everyday use. It has 6 reasonably fast threads. The rig I listed is well balanced. You are tipping the balance towards a cpu that will make 0 difference to your pc experience while sacrificing your game experience.

What do you mean by everyday performance? Have you use demanding applications apart from gaming?

I can see I'm making no sense at all, I'm gonna go with bloodbaths build. Would I be able to run a minecraft server and run minecraft at the same time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭TheFlidKid

one more question: would I need to overclock the fx 6300 to run the games I mentioned?

Nope, but overclocking will improve FPS noticeably in some games, not at all in other games, and definitely in the future.

Cool, I was just wondering if I had to buy an aftermarket heat sink

I would do that, but there's no rush if you're on a budget. An aftermarket cooler is quieter, and allows you to OC a lot higher than a stock cooler.

should I save up and get an air cooler or save up a bit longer and get a liquid cooler like http://www.hardwareversand.de/Intel+AMD/49515/Antec+K%C3%BChler+H2O+620.article Does liquid cooling really make much of a difference?

Not much point going that route on a mid-range CPU.

So you would recommend I upgrade to the fx 8350 before doing something like that?

Erm. Well it depends. Unless you're doing a custom loop, high end air coolers match warter cooling (or even beat it) in performance.

A Hyper 212 will net you almost the same overclocks and be just a little louder than water cooling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭TheFlidKid

What plug would I need to run the monitor?

Standard kettle lead. Or get a 2 pin adapter. Buying a new lead is the cheaper option. 3 quid or less in any electrical/hardware store.
